Brompton Advance Roller Wheels - will they fit a standard Brompton

  • Since the introduction of the P Line with its new (bigger) advance roller wheels we have been asked many times the following question:
    Will the Brompton advance roller wheels fit on a standard Brompton
    To be honest we were lazy and said no - the bolt looked different
    In this video we finally get around to trying it
    (spoiler alert ... the answer is actually yes!)
    We also show the different wheels and their diameters and weights

    Hi. DO I have to change the roller wheel on the mudguard as well if I have changed two of them into the advance roller wheels? Just a bit concerned about if it will be imbalance

  • @nockianlifter661
    @nockianlifter661 ปีที่แล้ว

    Every gram counts to make the P line lighter even if the components might not be superior. When you look at the weight difference of the rear end it’s around 300g, so the hub gears have to go, so do the more puncture resistant tyres and tubes, then scrape grams away on areas which don’t directly affect the overall performance/reliability. Wheels with bearings are heavier, so they are junked in favour of a wheel with a plain bush and then called ‘advanced’ to hide the obvious reduction in quality.

    Do the 5mm eazy wheels work with the p line rear triangle? And would it still be seen as an upgrade?

    • @brilliantbikes
      @brilliantbikes  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching and for the question. No the 5 mm are for the pre-2016 rack, the 6 mm version would work, but they are slightly smaller, they do have bearings rather than bushings, so kind of yes and no.

  • @LonicGheshu
    @LonicGheshu ปีที่แล้ว

    Historically there must have been a wheel between your conical and roller wheel because my 2020 M6L came with 44mm roller wheels, not conical. I thought these were standard until I purchased the Brompton rack kit that came with four 54mm roller wheels.

  • @thomasvanbel5943
    @thomasvanbel5943 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've fitted the new P-Line wheels onto my C-Line Urban. Not worth it in my opinion and my Brompton is very unbalanced in folded mode and constantly falls over on the train. They look better but I'm going to put the old small roller wheels back on.

    Cool video , The advance wheels look good but I’ve found a set from London craftwork that work really well for me. They are 63mm and look like roller blade wheels. Mine has the rack and I use it in shopping cart mode (folded except handlebars, borough bag on)quite often . It rolls really nice

    Information about the size of bolt would have been helpful, to help explain what can be retrofitted both to the rear triangle and rack.

    • @brilliantbikes
      @brilliantbikes  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The bolt is the same size, so the Advnace roller wheel will fit the standard Brompton using the bolts that come with them. They are all 6mm for the rear frame, only the older racks need a 5mm bolt (pre-2017)

    😄As an owner of a 2019 Superligth I absolutely - Hated the small original - useless wheels, so I bought the larger version and later some finely made, eastern, metal versions. Today I have two 10 cm wheels (titanium bolts!) on my bike and it rolls like a "tank" on a rough surface, and I'm used to have my heels free of them when pedalling. I also have an "axle-extender" made with a nice carbon tube in the middle and alu parts to bolt it on my bike (titanium bolts!).
    And a new, black Titanium seat post (My bike is a black version) in the standard length, to be able to fold it inside a B&W travel box, though I am too tall for a "standard" post, as 184 cm. But it is stopped when pulled out in full. So absolutely no need for an insert! When asking, I was advised by Brompton to buy a "telescope post" for - travels, to be able to easily remove the top and saddle, but it is a very heavy solution, so I also have a 600 mm, black titanium post with a fixed, round saddle mount on top, to just be pulled out from the frame.🤔 I will see what actually functions? Finn. Denmark

    • @finncarlbomholtsrensen1188
      @finncarlbomholtsrensen1188 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have later found also intermediate length, black Titanium posts on the internet (Non, original Brompton, but still with the security bottom in the end, to prevent theft!)

  • @LonicGheshu
    @LonicGheshu ปีที่แล้ว

    More wheels - this money for old rope! So "Advanced" over "Eazy" is 5mm bigger, 5g less, no roller bearing and £6 a pair more expensive. What bothers me is that the bigger Eazy wheel already makes the folded bike less stable because it lifts the front wheel off the ground. The Advanced wheel will only make that worse. A way around this would be to make the fork hook adjustable to let the wheel drop closer to the ground.

  • @davidburgess5419

    Are there any engineers working for Brompton or just marketing and sales promoting nonsense?

    • @brilliantbikes
      @brilliantbikes  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We think that the food thing with the Brompton changes are that they are tried and tested and introduced slowly. So if you compare an old classic to a new bike there are significant changes, just that they have not all happened at once! Mind you the P Line does have an entirely new back end! So I guess this shows the significant innovation you are looking for.
