    Too many people on TH-cam act like this deal was going to cause a resurgence in mega coasters and parks getting awesome additions. This was only about surviving the massive amount of debt that is due soon. No there isn't going to be Intamins coming to Cedar Fair parks, there isn't going to be B&M gigas popping up at Six Flag parks. Plan on additions that drive in park spending and some parks being sold off and older outdated rides being removed.

    If the merger fails, I can only see that as a good thing for the community. Firstly, a bunch of good people would no longer be losing their jobs. That uncertainty in their lives would disappear. Next, competition would be preserved. With area parks all being controlled by the same company, I wouldn't see the need to invest in big rides to draw crowds away from the competition. It would all just sit there and age. I have no faith in a company to develop if there isn't a need to compete.

    • @brianfoss571
      @brianfoss571 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Both chains are limited in their investment by significant debts, though. Six Flags has a history of expanding too quickly, while Cedar Fair has consistently added coasters from a single expensive manufacturer. The merger and debt restructuring should moderate both tendencies while allowing stability for modest, consistent CapEx.

    as someone whos home park is dorney a smaller cedar fail park i really dont want this to happen. if cedar fair alone couldn't give the smaller park investments in a reasonable time, i don't have hope that they would be able to add coasters on a reasonable time for even some of the bigger parks . this would be more than doubling cedar fairs parks and with six flags past and cedar fair neglect for some parks and also refusing to work with some of the best manufactures.

      I disagree. There are some parks that need some TLC cuz some of them may have been claimed to look or have been run down. I am of the opposite opinion. I hope this merger gets blocked. I don't think it is good for consumers. It will only lead to higher prices. Prices at Cedar Point skyrocketed once they bought and closed Geauga Lake and then bought Kings Island. Lack of competition is never a good thing.

  • @zacg_
    @zacg_ 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    This worries me. I've never been excited about the merger. That's not because I thought it would lead to a monopoly or that it would lead to tacky advertisements at Cedar Fair parks. It concerns me because large scale mergers like this usually happen in the corporate world when two companies are in financial trouble and figure that combining will result in a safer base so they can safely shed assets. This isn't like a large scale acquisition (like Disney buying 20th Century Fox) where one company is doing well and feels like it's in their best interest to own part of the competition. This is an act of desperation.
    So why am I worried if I didn't like the merger? Shouldn't I be happy if it doesn't happen. Well no. Because if the merger fails it won't change the fact that both companies are in dire financial straits. It is very likely that if the merger fails now that both company's stocks will take a massive hit as their path out of insolvency will be closed. That would probably INCREASE the likelihood that they are forced to shed assets and halt any expansions. It could mean we see parks sold off, unconfirmed plans for rides canceled and a dry spell for the remaining parks.
    As much as I didn't like the merger (mostly because of the circumstances that brought about the merger) I would dislike a failed merger even more.

The other thing I can see happeing as well. Is more like u see in SF parks come to CF parks. I can also see stuff like Halloween haunt get turned to Fright fest. Winter fest get turned into Holiday in the park.

  • @Jadentheman

    This is just a formality. The government has let bigger companies consolidate these past few years. A merger will 100% happen soon.

    • @MrMac1138
      @MrMac1138 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not as much lately. They just busted the Jet Blue - Spirit merger. I doubt they let this go through without major conditions. The issue is this would greatly reduce competition in the regional theme park business, creating a new monopoly in that segment. They may allow it to go forward with sales of parks that are too close to one another (maybe within 200 miles). So Knotts and Magic Mountain would have to be split. King's Island may have to be split from Cedar Point, etc.
      Ultimately the DOJ can deny it and then file an injunction. If the injunction is approved then the merger will be blocked until the outcome of a trial is determined. It would delay it by a year or more.
      They also would likely have to go to shareholders as part of a deal and be clear about what parks need to be sold off, etc. That could tank the shareholders from approving it.

    • @brianfoss571
      @brianfoss571 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @FlyRick78 That merger would have eliminated Spirit's ability to set very low airfares, though. It's an ultra-low-cost-carrier - and one of the few major ones left in the industry. JetBlue offers significantly more amenities, and they'd be running the combined company. The combined airline's fares would be significantly higher than Spirit's.
      Besides, theme parks offer a wider variety of attractions and services than airlines do. But like airlines, their capital and overhead costs are very expensive, and the primary purpose of the merger is restructuring debt and stabilizing their operating and CapEx costs. As long as the legacy SF / CF parks in overlapping markets are developed differently, I don't their proximity will be a major issue.

    • @MrMac1138
      @MrMac1138 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@brianfoss571 It is not the only example of the FTC and DOJ taking more scrutiny. I doubt they allow the merger without concessions. I'd guess 4-6 parks will get sold to complete it. They can fight it, but that will drag it out and they can pocket some cash.

    • @brianfoss571
      @brianfoss571 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @FlyRick78 The other prominent example is Kroger & Albertsons, which would have involved closing 400 stores. And grocery stores offer essentially the same products. I agree that there will be some conditions, but selling 4 or 5 parks won't be necessary. As long as parks in overlapping markets are developed for different niches, they should be fine. Would not be surprised if KD has to remove Flight of Fear and relocate it to, say, Worlds of Fun so SFA has the only FoF clone in the region.

      I think this is likely. Would not be surprised if several are sold to Herschend.
      I think either Knotts or Magic Mountain will have to get sold - this is a tougher choice.
      I'd bet Six Flags America would get sold - they won't sell King's Dominion.
      Dorney Park also would likely get sold as I don't see them selling Great Adventure.
      Even though it may not be required, I do wonder if they'd keep Michigan's Adventure.
      I also wonder if they would want to continue to operate the EPR parks. I wonder if they might see if Herschend would take over operations.
      Could they choose to divest of the Mexico City park? That would not be involved in the DOJ stuff, but they might take the opportunity.
      I also wonder if they will hasten the shutdown of Great America and move some rides to Discovery Kingdom.

      You just named small crappy parks.
      Those aren’t going to be barriers for a merger. IDOJ is going to be concerned about in-market competition being impacted. If the DOJ wants to impose conditions on the merger they’d more likely have to divest one of the LA-area parks and maybe one or two that serve the northeast. But most of the others aren’t really close enough to matter. Missouri as a whole doesn’t really count as a single market, neither does OKC I doubt they’d view that trio as competing with each other.

    Please stop talking about something you know nothing about. These kinds of requests are normal for mergers. You know nothing about business & finance.

      I never said they were not normal. I am just sharing my thoughts is all. I am allowed to do that - correct? :)

    It's not going to happen. This will scare away SFs shareholders and it won't happen. I kept telling people it's this merger it's 100% when it was talked about.
