This is an industry that can never be replaced by robots. It requires a rare combination of art, mechanics, technology and muscle.

1000% agree with you. Every job is different and we are always learning and adapting new skills everyday 💪🏼

Great video! Was the high voltage disconnected while doing these repairs? Or were there any precautions done about high voltage battery/system?

Thank you! Yes the high voltage system was all disabled when completing these repairs 👍🏻

@@shawn.collisionrepair could you point to a guide to explain how to do it? So far what I know is to disable 12V battery and then remove plug under rear seat which will disconnect contactor relay. Is that it? Any further cautions while welding? Thanks

What happen if the lower rear fender is damage , would that total out a model 3?

The lower front wheelhouse extension that attaches to the outer rocker is the part I believe you are referring to. Replacing that part would not total loss the vehicle.

Another great video! Quick question: for the work done in this video, how many of the 80-grit belts did you go through in the spot-grinding?

Thank you so much!! I went through roughly 3 or 4 80 grit belts cutting this model 3 apart 👍🏻

Great work! Why replace the inner wheel housing instead of reshaping it again with hammer and dolly?

Thank you! The aluminum outer wheelhouse was replaced because the aluminum panel was oil canned meaning it was super stretched and would pop in and out of shape. On certain strength steel panels where heat is allowed to repair the material the oil canned can be removed using a torch to shrink the panel back to shape. On aluminum this procedure does not work as the aluminum has a way lower melting temperature and the torch would melt the aluminum. Hopefully that helps explains why the panel was replaced.

I have the exact damage on my 2018 Model 3 and it was totaled due to labor costs. 😢

I’m surprised your car was a total loss there much of been more hidden damage cause this vehicle wasn’t close to being written off.
