I made this and it’s pretty wobbly horizontally. Up and down it’s fine, front to back is fine, but there’s nothing to keep the triangle frames from topping over sideways.
Interesting, there is a slight sway side to side in mine, nothing close to toppling over though. Check your dimensions to make sure the top is not splayed out or in. The inside dimension should be the same as the bottom braces.
looking at your stair treads behind you, circle grain should be in rainbow position (not smily face position) keeps wood from curving upward. Learned this from This Old House woodworker.

maybe screw another 2x4 on the upper back? about 4-5 inches down from top.

Thank you! Anything is possible but I wouldn't go smaller. Especially if you like to swing in them.
