I had a crush on him even bigger than the one I had on Paul Newman. 😂
Stunning talent. I don't think he ever got over the death of his Mother. As a sober alcoholic for 26 years, I get it - and just wish he could have found recovery.
    Terrific homage.
    Rest in paradise, GSC.

I think he is very memorable playing Sherlock Holmes in They Might be Giants...well worth a watch or two :)

When my sisters and I were babies, the villainous McCleach introduced us to Mr Scott; also because of the fact that my dad would watch some old school war films at times that had Mr Scott.

A powerful and memorable actor! I'd have placed The Hustler a bit higher, as it impacted me much as it did you, and stayed with me longer than some of his other performances.
I don't know why, but I always enjoyed his performance in The Flim-Flam Man a lot, perhaps because he seemed to perform it with a twinkle in his eye, unlike many of his more 'serious' performances.
    Thanks for this great tribute!

I personally think that Scott's best performance is in DR. STRANGELOVE. I think that most military men during the Cold War were much like General Turdginson, a redneck who thinks himself of being intelligent, rational and practical, while he is a total psycopath.
"Oh boy, I'd wish we had one of those Doomday machines" 🤣🤣🤣

Very good list and excellent video. There really wasn't anyone else quite like George C Scott. A tormented genius with a commanding on screen (and stage) presence. Above all a genuine artist in every sense.

I was glad to see you rank Scott's performance in "The Hospital" so high. Alas, my all-time favorite turn of his didn't even merit an Honorable Mention on your list. For some reason I'll never understand, when people think of an Arthur Miller play adapted for TV and starring George C. Scott, they immediately think of 1967's "The Crucible" and forget all about 1971's "The Price" -- which in my opinion, was a much more memorable production. (Actually, I do understand -- there was a weird licensing arrangement for that production which kept it from being released commercially on VHS or DVD. It's now all but forgotten, which is sad, because Scott's performance is so brilliant -- and sensitive.

Excellent video essay. Probably my favorite performance was The Hustler. His raw energy was captivating - always just at the edge of violence. "You owe me MONEY!" Crazy good. Also, Anatomy of a Murder and one you didn't mention, The Last Run in which he knows his end is near. The scene in the church confessional is riveting.

Angus? WTF. The remake of 12 Angry Men I found not nearly as engrossing as the original. Not Scott's fault. It's the direction and editing. The way Lumet used closeups and edited it all together just resulted in a more engrossing flick. I'll take Exorcist 3 over the animated flicks, if for no other reason than the carp scene. I don't love that flick cuz it's scary. I love that flick cuz it's hilarious. Scott has some great moments.
