    Great review, we purchased the same unit, we opted for a 110 volt AC unit which we can run off of shore power or our Honda generator which we also use to keep the two house batteries charged, we can also just hook the trailers pig tail to our Toyota Tacoma and let them charge that way which takes very little time. Instead of the wrap around awning we had a custom screened in room built that covers both kitchen pullouts and then some, really adds a whole new dimension to these unique camper.

    • @DewmOnline
      @DewmOnline 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HimAndHerOverland I get that its in line with "market price". But I'm never sure who these sell to.. Like is the "I'm going to tour Australia's backcountry and need to do nothing but off roading" market really that big?
      And if you are just doing highway traveling, why not spend $30k - $40k on a nice new coachman or some other brand? yeah it'll be a box trailer.. but who cares? who is going to spend this kind of money on a tear drop trailer, and then not upgrade their vehicle for towing it?

    • @HimAndHerOverland
      @HimAndHerOverland 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DewmOnline For the most part, this model is sold to a specific "overlanding" market. It is a significant market and is always growing. Folks who start off with a ground tent, then move to a roof top tent and finally into the ruggedized trailer to go places that you can't take a RPOD or similar trailer. You can see examples of that on my channel where we go way out into the mountains or high desert of Oregon and take this down tracks that are undeveloped forest roads or wider ATV tracks. I am paying for the heavy-duty frame, the large tires, the water capacity and solar flexibility. This isn't a road-queen for me but a way to spend a weekend where I don't any other person except those riding with me. If you look at what is spent to build out an overlanding rig with a roof top tent (tires, rack, tent, etc), you will find that it all adds up quickly. Is it for everyone? No. If you want to stay on-road and in campgrounds, get something more comfortable for the money.

    When you started pulling stuff out all I could think of was "autobots, roll out"!!! I think these are awesome but I also know how cramped my 17 ft hybrid gets (with a full bathroom) after a few days and I don't think I could do it. Then again my brother has a 32 ft fifth wheel with a chandelier above his kitchen island and its not even camping (or glamping) at that point, different strokes for different folks I guess.

    I don't know how your friend found that camper, but Teton needs to do some advertising if they can outdo their current demand. That rig is awesome. I was worried about grabbing food from the fridge during the rain, but they solved that. I agree that the short door must be the biggest con, especially for aging folks with less than great knees. Still with all the features, functionality, and at that weight, a fantastic travel trailer to boondock your way across North America.

Stand alone Kitchen, Outhouse and Utility Trailers. Add auxillary power from the auto for all night AC, and this makes the chaperones very happy. great video but this statement is completely, utterly and dangerously incorrect and I hear it repeated over and over "this small travel trailer (3500 lb loaded) can be towed by most vehicles". Hardy any recent SUVs are rated to tow at 3500lb. And even those that are rather 3500lb should probably not tow anything over 2000lb really, especially not in high elevations!
    My rav4 is rated at 3500lb, my trailed is perhaps 1200lb and I would not want to tow anything much larger.

    I can’t wait til 400w+ solar, a solar inverter, and at least one Lithium battery are standard options on every camper from teardrops to fifth wheels. These aren’t true off the grid til they do. I like the idea of being able to power the ceiling fan, lights and ac plugs at all times regardless of where I am.

    The seat situation inside is a deal breaker and I can understand why you glossed over that part fairly quickly. To me that inside seating has to be a solid, cozy, inviting option somehow- some way, and dang, if you even have a little bit of a belly you are screwed. I know the idea is to think outside the box, literally, and it looks awesome and functional and modern in so many ways but I think I would let a few of those gadgets go and probably not have to pay up to much higher for something just a little bit bigger or designed to fit a 2 seater comfortably and still room to slide a 3rd person on top of a cooler or fold up seat. I'm not picturing a recliner by any means, but a bench with a little more practicality. I'm thinkng about the nights when the temperature drops below 50 or you just want to be indoors for whatever the reason may be. Shut the blinds and let it all hang out. Doesn't matter where you go in this Country, the nights get chilly even in the heart of summer along Cali's coast and definitely in the high desert. Great kitchen idea. I would put that to good use for sure.

      @@garretlewis4103 All the prices on these teardrops have gone up darn near 50% since COVID, not just these. Demand is through the roof and materials are getting scarce. Also, a lot of passion projects are turning into serious money-making ventures for company founders. Entry-level trailers (across all companies) have all gone up about the same proportion. $17,000 a year or two ago is now $25,000 for the same exact build.
      I've about decided to get a used A-frame for 1/2 or 1/3 the price. Raise it up 4 inches, put bigger wheels and tires on it, maybe add a skid plate, and have all the conveniences of the high-end teardrops, with a pair of 20-pound propane tanks, standard. Not as big of a status symbol, but quite functional. Fully-insulated teardrops seem to start at $25,000 and go up from there. You can find a good used Chalet for $10,000 - $15,000.

      Well it has a GVWR of 3500 but weighs less than that. It depends on how much stuff you carry with you. That said, your truck has a 3500 lb tow rating and, despite struggling a bit, it towed it.
