IMS is my temple. I walk in every year, look up at the Pagoda, and think “I’m home”. Seeing the track when I fly in every year is the best! I love IMS and the Pagoda is beautiful. The sights, the sounds, the smells, everything. I worship this place and the 500.

I like the track a lot. There's only one thing in the universe that we owe our worship to.

@@Creedbunman65 Correct. The yard of bricks!

And that never diminishes... only gets stronger.
The intensity walking in this year was powerful stuff.
      The place always delivers.

I got to take a tour of the Pagoda a few years ago I’ll never forget it! As a nascar fan kissing the bricks was so exciting! A loyal attendee for 24 years!

Awesome insider view as always. Thanks Doug. I’d love to see a bit on the history behind the grandstands…which is the oldest standing today (I think it’s E in turn one?) and what was the last original grandstand/remnant of the 1909-11 era and when was it replaced…

According to the speedway when Tom Carnegie passed, there is no current structure viewable from inside the track that predates 1946. (There are several buildings outside the track though) The oldest structure viewable inside is the medical center, built in 1948. I believe Stand E is the oldest standing, as it was the first double deck grandstand built, and was constructed in 1949.

Your doing great work Doug. I love anything you do that has track history behind it. Maybe do one on gasoline alley and what they looked like back in the dy. Joe

I second that suggestion, the old Gasoline Alley versus today's Gasoline Alley. A lot of history there, plus maybe add in a story about the garages for the F1 races that were held at IMS.

My dad was friends with Joe Quinn who was director of safety at IMS many years ago. I got to spend time hanging out on the top level of the old control tower in the late 60’s during qualifying. 😬

An approach path to the airport, flagpole max was 199 feet...
Roll the credits... proceeds to fly drone up over flagpole, only to be swept aside from vortexes generated off the wingtips of a line of inbound FedEx jets!!

Yeah that would be interesting to see the top dog's office. Still really enjoy these videos and tours. At least he knows about the history of his sport and isn't clueless. Seems like a good dude.
