I wouldn't call Michael McDowell winning on a road course an upset because he is one of the best road course racers in the Cup series. It's more of an upset that Front Row Motorsports actually dominated and won a non-superspeedway race.
You think of AJ, McDowell, Elliott. Immediately, when it comes to road courses, or i do. Its definitely not an upset that 2 of those 3 were within 2 seconds of eachother at the end.
@@PfefferkuchenmanJust not true... AJ the DingerSaurus, Suarez, Micky Mc D Well, Reddick and Rowdy are probably all in the same level as Elliot... Chastian, Larson, and Truex are all a close second tier.
This the kind of racing we want. We don't want fake cautions and fake spinouts. The guy that's destroyed all day that deserves to win should win. Not a caution and he gets wrecked from the lead and loses the race.
While I agree this was some damn good racing, and any true "racer" would want this type of race. However, is this what the typical "fan" wants? If we had 36 races like this, would viewership go up or down? Nascar whole existence is based on the number of viewers, the more viewers, the more companies will advertise, the more that will advertise, the more money they have to organize races and put toward prize pool, bigger prize pool attracts better drivers, better drivers lead to better racing. So Nascar needs to make it so viewership goes up if it wants "best racing" . Typically Nascar road races, even before stages, brought in less viewership, than other races.
@@davidkellyjr2092unfortunately you’re right and we’ve seen how the fans reacted to pure great racing at north wilkesboro, richmond, martinsville, and all the road courses except COTA. The core fans that go to their local tracks and watch tons of racing loved it, but the fans that just watch nascar for chaos and wrecks hate it. This divide is exactly why nascar left the core fans in the late 90s and into the 2000s, and why it failed when the trendiness of nascar was over.
@@davidkellyjr2092 well that's the issue is nascar is trying their hardest to be worldwide and be like F-1 and their losing fans but also gaining some and it views on TV are slowly going down because of it. They lost who their true fans are which is the USA. 10 years ago their views were double than they are now because of their changes. No one wants to watch races where they can't pass each other cause of how close the car's are. And now just to make it interesting they throw a caution at the end of every race. It should be decided on who brought the better car and who is the better driver that day and strategy. Not someone over cooking the corner and wrecking the guy that deserves to win cause he kicked their ass all day.
The slip to call a late race caution didn’t make it to the booth in time, they had the script ready for Chase but the guy with the message didn’t make it up the steps in time
Remember the 2008 Texas qualifying crash McDowell had? One of the hardest hits I've ever seen. And he walked away. If you haven't seen it, search for it on TH-cam.
I am extremely happy for Michael McDowell he deserved to win that race man. Good job brother keep up the good work brother. And hey at least Hamlin didn’t win haha 😊
It's funny seeing people indifferent to the race or thinking it was boring. I'm sorry that for once the Indy Road Course wasn't the demolition derby everyone hated in 2021/2022? We got to watch a team that until last year was woefully ill equipped to compete with the best not only win, but dominate without needing a lucky caution, pit strategy, or luck out due to driver error. This is what the Next Gen car was made for and it has succeeded in giving a small team the ability to outperform one of NASCAR's juggernauts
Allmendinger was sitting there for 20 seconds... it was very refreshing to see a race go green. No stage breaks, no frivolous cautions. NASCAR should get rid of all stage breaks.
I saw you guys on the spotter stand over the weekend and thought about going over and saying hi but wasn’t sure how that would go over. Maybe next time
They should do a Cup doubleheader at Indy! Make it a Cup only event over Father’s Day weekend, creating a new tradition… Friday evening: Practice, and qualify, on the Road Course Pit stall selection based on Friday qualifying, teams will not move pit stalls between races, creates strategy for where you want your pit stall for both races. Saturday morning: Race on the road course. Teams use same car for both races, unless severely damaged, only changing out spoilers, and underbody aero equipment, between races. Saturday evening: Practice, and qualify, on the oval. Sunday afternoon: Race on the oval.
It's refreshing to hear DBC and the commenters complaining about BS cautions that change the outcome of a race. I've hated the Green-White-Checker finishes for years for exactly that reason. A guy that's been dominating the race all day deserves to win the race.
We also want tire wear back to showcase the best of the best. We can't help that some teams don't have the same money as others. They shouldn't be exactly the same. What would baseball be like if it was like this
Indy was better than I had envisioned it was going to be. Michael Mcdowell and his team did a great job when out front. The team did not butt fumble the race away. I don't think the cautions were in the way of a decent race.
At Best He'd Have Finished 4th,Track Position Was Tough,He Had A Throttle Problem But Once He Got Used To it it Wasn't A Problem,Also Qualifying Back There Cost Him,He Had Slow Pit Stops All Day,He Was Good On The Long Run And At The End Was Better Than The 4 Cars Ahead Of Him,5,14,19 & 20, You Can Check His Onboard
Stage breaks on ovals are fine. Give these teams a chance to work on the vehicle. When there are no cautions, the race can be boring. I also like rewarding people who are consistent during the race too so I like people getting points during the race. Makes people race harder.
Also smart thing stated there. If nascar did fall off on tires, everyone would be running very conservative. It would match what happens in F1 to manage tires
Suarez would've gapped them both if he didn't have a bad pit stop. He gained 4 seconds on them over the course of that final stint. That being said, I'm very happy for McDowell.
SVG win was more impressive and monumental. Ironically, all these people saying how surprisingly incredible McDowell's win was just haven't been paying attention. Since about 2020 McDowell has been Top 8 to about Top 2 pretty consistently at the road courses. Sonoma they were the only team who kept up with Truex throughout the entire race without employing an alternate pit strategy. The pit crew has been the weak link & only needing 2 pit stops yesterday (both under green) really helped them. Watkins Glen is Michaels worst road course so it might be a Top8-ish run this week.
Finally I can watch NASCAR. Reason we haven’t is we’re not fans of ovals. Never got that running in a circle. Now we have more road courses. NASCAR is sooooooo behind in racing that just regular heel and toe driving baffles the other drivers. Anybody who’s done a track day knows how to heel and toe.
Man you guys have no clue about FRM. They have a lot of backing from Ford and Ford is a big reason that McDowell has been able to stay at FRM because they are a huge fan of his and want to keep him in a Ford. Yall are absolutely clueless.
