I have wonderful memories of me and my family going on holiday and visiting one of my family members and my nieces in Borth in 1986 and in 1987 wish I look back with fondness and joy.

I spent all my Summer holidays in Borth every year when i was growing up. As a family in the 70's we stayed every year in the same cottage just up on the little hill opposite the boat yard. We knew the old lady who lived in the next cottage, she had a TV & we didn't so she'd let us go round, she had a seagull called Peg who she rescued & nursed back to health. Us kids would sit on the grass at the front of the cottage (which is now privately owned) & wave at the passengers on the train going across the bridge above the river. We'd walk into Borth main street every day & get our milk from some place we passed by on our way there. We stopped going some time in the 80's, but still went back from time to time on day trips. Still love the place, but haven't been for years now. My parents are both 81 this year, how time flies ❤

Nice of you to say - thanks!
I'll have to take another look at it again just now, seeing as there were some changes made (probably to the sea defences) after taking a bit of a hammering in winter storms

Do you mind there’s just enough there. A zoo, some nice pubs, beautiful beaches, what more could anyone want.

Actually Borth has a beautifully located church slightly raised above the ground around it. And the view across to the Cambrian Mountains is heavenly.

is there any need for all that rock to be put that high preventing people from looking at the sea after all thats what they go to the seaside for

    • @swiftymorgan5064

Not greatly attractive for sure, but I believe at the time of their construction Borth had suffered a lot of damage from Winter storms, so it's probably something to do with that
Nearby Aberystwyth had one of its Promenade shelters destroyed by what most likely was the same storm, so I guess Borth's residents got a bit nervous!

      @@swiftymorgan5064 Hi there.
What a fantastic video of my favourite “Unique Village By The Sea” as it was once described as in an old guide book for Borth many years ago.
I have the opportunity to go there often apart from last year due to the pandemic. My Brother has a caravan at Upper Borth overlooking the village.
I remember the sea defence work going on there in 2014 and seeing those rocks all piled up on the seafront. It was especially noticeable when you approached the seafront from the station towering above the promenade.
I found out straight away from somebody of what was going on and I can reassure anyone who is planning to visit Borth nowadays that all those rocks have been put into their respective “islands” to perform their job as a very effective defence for Borth against anymore storms that the village may endure in the future.
Thank you for making such a wonderful video of this very special place on the coast of Cardigan Bay.

@@mercianwanderer5953 Thanks Bryn. I haven't been back for a few years so must take a look again soon
Not knowing of course, I imagine these islands might turn out to look like the ones you find further north at Tywyn, although those are quite a bit away from the Promenade. Anyway they must be necessary of course, if only for the residents
