She is very very fucking good
This piece is the perfect illustration of the history of Korea; the morning calm, wars and invasions, lost families and loved ones, fights and struggles, and the glory of modern Korea. And it ends with the morning calm again. The lyrics are about the hopes of reunification of two Koreas. Arirang is the spirit of Korea. And you are absolutely right. This performance is like a big cinema about Korean history.
Junsik Min That's what makes it extra special for me, I feel like So Hyang is really connecting with that emotion and it pours out of her.

아리랑이 통일을 위한 노래라는 것은 비약입니다. 아리랑이 몇천년전에 시작되었는지도 모르는데 한국현대사의 불행의 감정이 아리랑이라고 말하는것은 어불성설입니다. 현대한국인이 그렇게 느낄지는 모르겠지만 식민사관이 심어놓은 한국인의 한이라는 감정이 아리랑이 말하는 감정도 아닙니다.
현대 한국인들이 그렇게 느낀다고 소개하면 적당할지는 모르겠습니다.
우리 민족의 역사가 몇만년전인지도 잘 모르는데 아리랑을 현대 한국의 비극에 짜맞춰서 설명하지마세요. 그것이 식민사관의 결과라는 생각을 떨치기 힘듭니다.
유구한 우리 민족의 역사를 조금 알고나니 왜 서양인들이 한국의 전통의 미를 찾고 싶어하는지 알 것 같습니다. 일제시대에 우리 문화 역사를 모조리 불태워 버려서 우리것을 알 수가 없었다가 최근에 선생님들의 노력으로 밝혀지니 너무나 기쁩니다. 한국인들의 인식이 더 넓어져서 우리 것을 찾는데 힘이 모아지길 원합니다.
이 노래를 들으니 그 오랜 옛날 우리 선조들이 파밀고원을 넘어 세계 도처로 흩어질때의 이별의 애석함 고단함을 느끼는 듯합니다.
무슨 5천만 국민의혼이 한사람한테 다 담겨있는거같아..

This song "Arirang alone" is basically based on Korean traditional song, which is called "Arirang". Every Korean knows that song even North Korean (Sohyang belongs to South Korea). The lyric of "Arirang alone" has expectant massage about unification of North and South. It's very meaningful to us.
So we wish that Sohyang performs this song again on the stage of international event such as '2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympic' which will be held in South Korea.

It's a a song of cultural heritage and past, present and future. People all over the world, even non-Koreans love and relate to this song. Thank you for sharing it! When South Korea hosted the olympics, this song was sung by a famous traditional cultural singer during the opening ceremony as well. Thank you guys, you are awesome!

I think that she is the nearly one and only singer who is always able to sing live performance more perfect than studio recording. All the notes she sings have great vibrato and resonance with being perfectly supported. What a whole packge she has. Agile voice, great breath control, feminine and beautiful timbre, crazy range with ease upto B5!!!!!!! (Her highest note is A6 in head and C#6 in mixed for live performances though)
You are correct that her princesslike tone matches disneys' and she actually sang the voice of 'Moana' as Korean. But if she belts upper notes above E5, she becomes the freakin' Queen not a princess ;-)
what is the high note or notes she hits in Oh Holy Night? I am not Christian, but her inspired singing of that song is the most exquisite ear candy... WOW!

So Hyang is one of my favorite singers in the entire world! Also, the song sounds so epic because 'Arirang' is the most famous folk song of Korea. In fact, the song is so well-known that it is often described as the unofficial anthem. There are many variations of he song, and this one, Holo Arirang, was composed quite recently, in the 90 I think.

What's so amazing about her is that her voice actually changes from song to song. In addition, she is one of the few singers who can use different volumes throughout her voice range.
Way I se it there may be some singers who are as good as her but none better since she sings every song to perfection.
It is actually due to her dedication and training. If you see her performances from the beginning of her singing career there is a HUGE improvement over time.

Arirang is very old folk song and a kinda representative song for Koreans. There're different versions depending on the region.
Arirang alone is about reunification of two Koreas.
That's why this song meant a lot both to Sohyang and the audience.

I watched this movie while riding the subway, but I am so freaked out that I can't help it.
So Hyang is a South Korean singer. Arirang is the name of a very traditional Korean folk song. I suspect "Arirang Alone" might be a variation of the original folk song? Unfortunately I'm not Korean so I'm not too familiar with the song. I hope you have her rendition of "Lean on Me" in your list of her songs to react to. Seriously it's so amazing it's like listening to a full on gospel hymn.
Immortal Songs 1 in general is a fun show to watch. Musical guests perform covers of songs and they get audience votes. I mostly listen to the English language songs since I'm not familiar with Korean pop/rock songs.

노래로 빌드업을 어떻게 쌓아야 청중에게 감동을 줄수있는지 아는 가수. 개인적으로 소향의 고음보다 곡안에 스토리를 담아내는 능력을 더 특별하다 생각함.
동감임 소향 노래 많이 들어보면 빌드가 비슷하고 뻔한데 이게 지루한게 하나도 없고 그걸 소향 능력으로 커버 치는데 효과가 엄청남 그냥 이게 음악의 답인거같다는 생각도 듬 거기에 엄청난 호소력을 갖춰서 장난이 아닌듯

Besides her amazing vocal range and ability, her supreme musicality makes her a natural actress. Although I am completely enchanted by all of her songs, my favorite is her cover of Whitney Houston's " I have nothing."

I also love her version of "Everyone". She juxtaposed two different songs, one gospel song that I don't know who wrote, and the other Korean song of "Everyone", written & sung by legendary Yoon Bok Hee & Yoon Hang Ki brother & sister. I don't think many people would know the true sad story behind "Everyone" of Yoon Bok Hee & Yoon Hang Ki as young orphants who made it big as 1st Korean born world stars. Yoon Bok Hee was such a talented singer who performed in Ed Sulivan show, Johnny Carson, Bob Hope, and Louie Armstrong shows in 1960's and 70's. This was the time when 90% of Western world did not even know where Korea was and who the Koreans were.
