*Arirang* is the most-beloved Korean folk song. It’s believed to be first sang over 600 years ago, and passed down from generation to generation. No one knows the exact meaning of Arirang but it embodies the spirit of the people of Korea for centuries. Arirang represents the suffering and tribulation (Arirang 'Hill') overcome as people and the nation. If we’re together as one holding hands, we can make it over the hill. *Arirang Alone* is a modern adaptation (released in 1990) of the original song written in the hope of reunification of Koreas. It’s a song of hope and peace. It tells a fantasy of the Island of Dokdo floating in the East Sea all alone singing Arirang. If Dokdo sang Arirang, alone in the Eat Sea, would North and South reunite? Dokdo is islets centrally located between Mount Baekdu (in northern border of North Korea) and Mount Halla (in Jeju Island, South Korea). Let’s ride a boat together from Baekdu and Halla. When we dock our boats at Dokdo, we’ll witness a new dawn together. The songwriter’s parents had to leave two sons and a daughter in North Korea during the war. His father’s dying wish to him was “when Korea reunite, go find your older brothers and sister and tell them that their parents did not abandoned them”. Where everyone in the audience sings along is where Sohyang incorporated the original Arirang lyric and melody.
of course her song is amazing...^^ and one more reason of your tears is that ARIRANG contains the Korean historical sadness...so I guess you can feel it from her song
"Why am I crying"? I am a 75 year old man and I tear up whenever I hear her sing. I've asked that question many times, and finally I know the answer. I tear up when I hear absolute perfection and that is what this fabulous singer gives us - every time.
Sir, I definitely agree with you. But regardeless of all vocal techniques, in fact she is a virtuoso in this field, her communication of emotions toward the audiences is the key point i guess and i am absolutely sure that she is a really good storyteller touching our hearts.
There are lots of Arirang songs in Korea All Arirang songs have a sad soul basically Add Sohyang expressed it very very well. Tearing is natural Friend of mine who is American was crying even though watching without English captions Have a great day
I still remember an interview with Sohyang. The reason why she sang with all her strength was that she sang loudly so that God could hear. Her voice was given by God. I still remember a few years later. that's why we always cry when we listen to her song. I'm not a Christian, but I can only describe her as an angel's voice.
FINALLY someone who actually pointed out that transition from pure head to mixed/belt (7:27). Everyone focuses on the amazing Bb5 but NO ONE talks about this. Those 2 seconds are SO DIFFICULT. She went up one octave from chest to head and then on three different syllables she changed her tone three times from head to mix in just 2 seconds. 99% of singers would have cracked every single syllable. First time i saw this video my reaction was just the same. For me it is still the most amazing bit of this performance. I mean, apart from the otherworldly experience of that Bb.
Fun fact: the whole production and arrangements are completely done by so hyang. This song has over 60 :-version .She created this one on her own.a fabulous work.
This song is korean traditional song and these lyrics have a meaning of singing about the pain of division in Korea from the war. So she said 'togerher'. I am also Korean and know the historical pain, but Sohyang's song brings me something more emotional. Thanks for your reaction..!

@@lustwaffe9000 Oh, you're right. But I mean, this song is 'Arirang Alone', a song written and rewritten based on traditional music 'Arirang'. In the lyrics of this song, let's hold hands. The meaning of 'Let's go together' is to hope for the unification of South Korea and North Korea divided by the Korean War.
This song is actually very sad. Very hopeful but very sad, because it is a reflection of Korea as a war-torn country, filled with a lot of separations and heartbreaks, but also hope and optimism for a better, united future.
She is an actual angel, she went through a cancer and she won the battle against it... she has so much soul!! And this song it's super emotional for Korean people, it talks about the hope of reunification between North and South Korea... btw, this version of the song always makes me cry, it's so beautiful

Another 2 performances to complete the Immortal Songs series which are Lean On Me and Bridge Over Troubled Water. Both were famous western songs but So Hyang completely changed the arrangement making it feels like her original song. Hope to see them soon. Thank you so much for loving So Hyang so much. Great reaction as always.
"Arirang" means so deep, sad and historic to Koreans. And "DockDo" means so sad to Koreans. If you find her jaws, it's abnormal case to her. That's why it's so hard to sing Korean traditional song because her normal skill is not matched it, I guess. She sung "Breathe" song. You can find real "Breathe". You will be certainly surprised. That's why that song is bigger, deeper and wider than "Arirang Alone". But That song is Masked Singer Version. Because of Copyright, I think you'd better react final reacting about So-Hyang.
Shes gonna be singing again in a korean tv show called “비긴어게인” hope you can react to her recent healthy singing as well soon☺️ The show is up next week!

"Sohyang, we have to stop meeting like this."
And I'm bursting in laughter 😂
I think the highlight for this performance in So Hyang's heart is the the Korean Olympic Dance Skate Team used this performance as their music in the Winter Olympics in S. Korea and if I remember correctly they medaled ...
Korean Olympic dance skate to so
Hyang
고맙습니다. 😊 아리랑 i Like YOU ~ UniVErsely in deep my mental..
Thank you for the reaction~
She is always amazing~🥰😍
Simply, she is an amazing singer!
I've already seen so many reactions to So Hyang's perfomances that I didn't think to learn anything new for myself, but you surprised me. Thank you for your reaction. Keep watching to So Hyang. I recommend you to listen to her version of Oh Holy Night from Immortal songs (8 minutes video, the song starts in the third minute)
소향 한복 잘 어울립니다. 잘 보았습니다.
Oh sohyang! what a lovely performance! surely a long waiting reaction.
What a beautiful song and interpretation. Btw. Julia, even if you cry you look amazing!
I really appreciate your genuine comments and emotion.
I know you have loads of recommended lists done by Sohyang, yes, all of them are representation of our inner most part done, stunning.
I also want you to have chance to listen to relatively recent songs by her.
One of them is 'I will always love you', which is, I think, already surpassing Whitney's, sorry to say. So emotionally perfect one sung in imperfect surroundings.
Julia, Thanks a lot for your pure beauty as well.
One of the most stunning live performances that all generations can relate to !
Julia, have never seen you stronger, that you allow yourself to be vulnerable! I see God drawing you to Himself! You carry His light!
her voice along with this song especially makes me cry so much. she did the song so much justice
So sweeeeet from you, smart reaction.,Sohyang is amazing .big 🙂🌴🌞💐💙💚💜✌️☺️from casablanca
Can't wait to see the video, Julia please do more reaction videos about Sohyang's performances
Loved your comment ^^ I have listened to this performance thousand times and I'm crying every single time .. ♥
You have a lot of feelings~ Good job~
it's taken me a while to watch this because every single time i hear SoHyang's rendition of this song i sob my way through it. absolutely fantastic reaction
Everybody can recognize mastery. But only another master can understand it and explain it.
Sohyang Arirang fills me up with her beautiful voice.
이런 라이브는 현장으로 가야합니다
Yes, much yes. She's so epic.
Arirang alone is a song that goes well with Korean emotion and voices
Finally one more So-Hyang reaction video !!
Love your reaction! Subscribed and liked!
Shes gonna be singing again in a korean tv show called “비긴어게인” hope you can react to her recent healthy singing as well soon☺️ The show is up next week!
thanks!
