You make some very valid points but I am a 73 year widower living on my own and I love my Breville VDF130 I much prefer the layout over the 2 drawer type I had before. I use a loaf baking tin instead of the shallow trays sometimes.
That is good to hear and very useful feedback for anyone reading the comments while watching this video. May I ask, have you cooked for more than one in it and if so how many?
@@CandidClara To be fair I have only cooked for myself in it but I am sure it would be good for 3 or 4 but you will know that better than me.I just prefer to be able to put the likes of toad in the hole in it like a normal oven rather than trying to get trays of liquid into a drawer without spilling.
The storage draw is a great idea - one that other manufacturers will no doubt follow. Great review for a product I would consider to replace our traditional oven.
Another great review. Yes, in this era of “alternative facts” the fuzzy math is not too surprising. Yes, they’ve accurately reported the full volume of the empty oven, but it’s convenient to leave out actual usable capacity.
Glad it was helpful. I like to think one day these marketing teams might have conversations where they say "no we won't get away with saying that, it'll be pulled apart on youtube"
Thank you for the video and the channel, recently joined and love the clarity and thoroughness of your reviews. I was wondering if you would be investigating the effectiveness of air fryers with Steam functionality built in?
I think you must have read my mind! The browser tab I have open next to this is on the Philips 5000 steam model so that is coming in the new year and I also have the Wonder Oven by Our Place which has a steam function. I reviewed the Ninja Combi and the 14 in 1 which both do steam and I'm a big fan, so I'm fascinated to see how these other models perform
Great review Clara. I have the HYSapientia 22L air fryer oven. I measured the internal oven and it came in at 19800cm3 which converts to 19.8L (not 22L as advertised). Can't figure how they've arrived at 22L!!!!! Hey ho, it's still a decent oven though (no sync finish and no zone duplication so I have to use timers to cook different things in both zones). The large single zone is good. The only thing is the end cooking beep is not very loud so I usually set a timer for that too.
Oh that's funny, but also reassuring for me that I didn't find the only manufacturer doing creative things with maths! Everyone keeps asking about the HYSapientia so it's on the list to review
Thanks for another great review. I was thinking about buying this airfryer but looking at it via the review I think I might pass. I was looking at the sizes they quoted and Im thankful for you clearing this up. I am still looking for a an oven style airfryer but have yet to find anything the beats the ninja dual drawer I currently have. Hopefully something comes up that might fill the gap.
I think the Ninja is hard to beat for simplicity and efficiency and I think you'd be incredibly fdrustarted if you swapped it for the Breville! I have a few mpore of these oven style air fryers on the list so they will be coming in the new year
Another good review. Do you also review the cheaper, lower end, non-branded models? I've had a great 6L air fryer from George at Asda for a couple of years now and really recommend it. It cost £40. Just bought one of their dual basket air fryers for £50 because I want to try synched cooking. For those on lowish incomes Ninjas and Philips are beyond their means. Sorry if I've missed any, but I can't see any videos on these (aside from Gino's sage green one which is sold via Asda).
I certainly don't discriminate against more affordable ones, there are just so many models and so little time, but in theory I'll get to all of them eventually. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, it is appreciated.
What air fryer would you recommend for a large family of 6. I have just bought the Breville but I agree the capacity is very misleading and not as big as my cheaper 10litre single basket. I am going to return the Breville 😢
@CandidClara thanks will look at these. Shame with the Breville as if they could make the top electric section smaller it could deliver the capacity. Any budget options worth considering as well?
Excellent reviews ❤️ I have sent the Breville back and have the Casori on the way 👍 just one last question I also ordered a silicone insert to help with cleaning and extend air fryer life. In your experience do you think this will be a restriction due to the additional bottom heater/fan elements. Never used an air fryer with the silicone liner in so your advice is very welcome.
I cannot understand what Breville is doing with that oven since the amount of space for the gubbins seems much larger than necessary all at the expense of cooking volume which seems tiny. And the price is a far too high. I did do a search of your excellent channel, Clara, and you do not seem to have done a review of the HYSapientia range of convection ovens / air fryers? I did review their dual zone oven myself and my basic cooking showed it works well and has a capacity well beyond the Breville range at about half the price. It might be worth you having a look at their range which is all stainless steel and many even incorporate a free rotisserie. I found my HYSa is used more than my Ninja air fryer these days and since there are 3 cooking positions per dual compartment, doing stacked cooking and variable heat/time programs is very easy indeed. My favourite Bacon and cheese sourdough bread sarnies are now very easy to do and there is no having to scrat around inside a 'bucket' to lift out the cooked ingredients and risking spillages lol. It would be great to see you professionally review one of the HYSapientia ovens and see what you think of it? I don't work for them by the way - I am just a bit of an accidental fan of theirs after seeing a few cooking reviews and buying one in the summer of 24. I have to say, having watched more kitchen equipment review channels than most people have had hot dinners, you are frankly the most professional kitchen equipment reviewer in the UK and arguably the best right across TH-cam. Thank you for some great reviews.
Thank you so much for this very kind comment, I love your profile picture! You are the second person to mention the HYSapientia so I'm adding it to the list. There are so many air fryers and kitchen gadgets I don't think I'm ever going to run out of ones to review. Thanks again for the kind words Nikki, really appreciated x
Great review Clara - but, oh dear! (and call me cynical) - aren't there just too many specification inconsistencies and performance issues with this model. I had to laugh out loud at the customer service email reply - looks like they didn't really know themselves. In such a highly competitive sector, I'm amazed that Breville think they have a chance to get any real kind of market penetration (beyond gifting them, of course).
The “12 ways to cook” thing looks very much like it was thought of after they built the air fryer which is disappointing. I rather hope that one day conversations will take place in marketing departments where they say “we can’t get away with that they’ll rip us apart on TH-cam “
The real problem here is with misleading reviews. To Ninjas credit they supply a range of reviews, positive and otherwise without the "gifting" technique employed by Breville.
Ninja don't gift anything (even to people who you really think they would gift to!) they don't need to, but all the other brands struggle to keep up with them, it's very tricky. Unfortunately with high value electricals a lot of times people just sell them straight on and write a generic review based on the marketing blurb
@@grahamjohnson4702 yeah my understanding is there's no expectation of a return. They just ask for a review of the product. On their website tho they have positive and negative reviews which I appreciate.
@CandidClara perhaps it's a UK thing? I see some reviewers over in the States mention they are sent items for review. So it could be different management/marketing in Europe
Two points here one, the use of litres for a size is not a good way to say how much an oven will take as an oblong tray will not take a tray for cooking whereas a square tray will but then again a round tray won't and also the depth will alter the amount whatever the shape, cm or inches is a much better way, but I never see these quoted by manufacturers and a couple of manufacturers didn't even reply when I asked them by email. Two, the reviews are never as good as your in depth reviews as they will only be towards use and competence of cooking what they cook for their review.
Thank you, really appreciate the comment. It's amazing how the information about measurements is often hidden away by manufacturers. I think with a lot of products there is a number that is used in marketing which shoppers latch on to and which is often actually not terribly useful. With cameras it's pixels, with air fryers is litres!
@@CandidClara And a lot of people will already have cookware that will fit in one 8 litre fryer but not another, and if the wrong one is chosen means getting new cookware.
When you put the chicken in on the baking tray, I wonder how much chicken juice dropped all over the place when you removed the try surely it should've been like a pan
You could do, but it would add height in an already tight space. They show it being used cooking directly on the baking tray in the marketing material so I wanted to test it out as it's sold
Problem with this style is that you can’t help it getting dirty inside on the base and walls, so you just end up with another oven that’s hard to clean.
