    As a chinese, when i said i like solok lada and bawang putih jeruk (pickled garlic best with ayam percik) to my malay friends, they will get shocked how i know that HAHAHA… i was once in kelantan 4 or 5 years back, and that is the first time i had them… since then in every Ramadhan Bazaar, i must have 2-3 solok lada with a single pack of nasi kerabu😂

      My German friend ate the jeruk bawang with rice when we were in KB way back in 1987. I have never tried pickled garlic myself.

    • @senadzri
      @senadzri ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@Hellibra texture and tatse-wise crunchy like pickled underripe papaya, but with pungency of garlic. Depends on the garlic bulb used... the smaller probably means younger hence less garlicky. As much as I love it, I rarely ate it other than with nasi kerabu.

      @deqalb ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Pickled garlic is the best! You'd think eating whole bulb of garlic would have a very intense garlic flavour but it's not. It's slightly sweet, savoury and just a tinge of garlic taste. It's like magic, doesn't taste like what you'd expect a pickled garlic would taste.

    Jimmy. Most Malay food shops usually have Plain water but it is self service. You have to find the "Layan Diri"= self service, you will see a water dispenser with cups laying around. or those automatic water filter dispenser. If you dont see it around, please Order "Ais Kosong" = ice water. "air suam" = warm water. "Air" or "Minum" usually means Drinks in restaurants, it is not plain water. If you keep saying you want "air" in the restaurants... usually it gets you to nowhere LOL. KL also have this self service water stations, not many but its mostly in smaller, single owner business.

The more you add side dishes, the more expensive it can be.

    Me as Kelantanese love Nasi Kerabu with ikan kembung goreng + solok lada + extra kerabu + telor masin sebiji + bawang jeruk + keropok keping. If add sambal lada, must add a bit lime in it, so that it taste spicy and sour a bit. Sambal lada Nasi Kerabu is not same as sambal belacan. Beside that, budu make Nasi Kerabu taste authentic, but need to know how to prepare it not only pouring it on Nasi Kerabu. And beware of adding gravy, dont add too much gravy because how we eat nasi kerabu not same as how we eat nasi kandar. Little gravy is ok, excessive gravy make nasi kerabu not taste good anymore.

    keropok keping and keropok lekor originate from terengganu and is very famous in pantai timur states (kelantan, terengganu, pahang) . i hope ichang and jimmy can try keropok lekor (fried and boiled version) soon
    the fried fish itself we call 'ikan celup tepung' or ICT for short (flour coated fish). also a famous local delicacy in pantai timur especially areas by the beach. if you go to any ICT restaurant they have a lot of other deep fried seafood other than just fish (prawns, squids, etc) . the types of fish used for ikan celup tepung are *usually* ikan kembung (mackerel) and ikan selayang (sardine)

You will find different other types of Kerabu dishes without the rice. Most of other Kerabu dishes will mix with coconut. For example long beans (kacang panjang) + coconut + herbs, or kacang botol + coconut + herbs, or many other types with different mixes.

    The original blue color is from the telang flower. But nowadays, certain seller use coloring. This telang flower is good to enhance human fertility. Checkout AZi YANi channel for detail cooking rice using bunga telang. One of the famous nasi kerabu stall is at ketereh. How to eat? Mixed well all kerabu (mix raw vege) with rice, tumis and budu. Haha... It will blend well the taste! There are 2 version, some got "tumis" and some dont hv "tumis". The complete set should have 'jeruk bawang putih". The kerabu should have "bunga kantan" as well. Both jeruk bawang putih and bunga kantan will give a natural sour taste. Some also add fish floss and black pepper powder. You should try while u r here 😋

    As a Kelantanese, I am happy that you've tried our favourite Nasi Kerabu (sort of mixed rice) with all the necessary dishes - fish, kambing (grilled goat meat), ayam (chicken), tumis (sort of a sauce), solok lada, the mixed ulam (mixed vegetable/salad), the fish cracker (papadom like) is actually known as "keropok" and most importantly "budu" (fish sauce). Unfortunately you have not tried "garlic pickles" (bawang putih jeruk) which you should next time.
    (I'm staying in KL actually - despite there are lots of Kelantan food here - nothing can beat the original. So whenever I return to Kelantan, I would be eating like you do - enjoying them so much)
    What I love about all your videos especially your experience in Kota Bharu, Kelantan was that you both appreciate food like art. Best of all, being thankful for the nice food. (There is another version of Nasi Kerabu in the North known as Nasi Ulam which is equivalently delicious. If you happen to be in Kedah, Langkawi or even Perlis, find Nasi Ulam.)
    There are so many more delicacies (food) and other kinds of food in Kelantan you haven't tried yet. But having Nasi Kerabu is like having Nasi Lemak. There is a pair to Nasi Kerabu - we call it Nasi Belauk (or nasi Berlauk) which originally consist of a kind of curry known as gulai (mostly with ikan tongkol - a kind of tuna) but totally different taste from curry with the sambal (a little hot) etc. Maybe you should try Nasi Berlauk as well.
    On the other hand, that being said, there have been some negative and unruly comments about Kelantan food from mostly tourist from the west which I dislike very much. I thank you from the bottom of my heart and hope you will return to Kelantan again.
    Whoever this Ajimo is, you've made me prouder of my homeland.

    In my family, we have varieties of nasi kerabu,
    Nasi kerabu kampung/ darat, its white rice mix with all herbs and we use raw budu additional to the taste we put grind dried shrim and some lime juice or pamelo buds or shreded young mango, not everyone know this nasi kerabu even kelantanese them self, because this the oldest nasi kerabu type of all.
    Nasi kerabu biasa, its serve with blue or gray rice depend on what type of herbs you cooked the rice, its not just bunga telang we also can choose other herb to cook the rice with, its serve with herbs and sreve with cooked sweet budu.
    Nasi kerabu kuning/ tumis, its served with yellow rice, serve with herbs and sambal tumis, this one is the juicier compare to the other nasi kerabu and this one u nood need budu coz budu its are ready cooked with the sambal tumis.
    Back the my mom normally used at least 11 type of ulam for herb including bunga kantan, daun kesum, cucumber, bean sproud, pucuk gajus and more other exotic ulams.
    P/s: there is nasi kerabu siam to, it's like nasi kerabu biasa but serve with garlic pickle and the rice more likely look dark green cos it cook with a lot of herbs.
    I prefer nasi kerabu with beans sproud, coz with it feels like missing the freshness taste.
    Note, if u eat nasi kerabu make sure u mix all the rice and herbs well, thats how u Mastered in eating nasi kerabu.

      The Siamese version is called Khao Jaam, Jaam being the Thai word for "Kerabu". The rice is cooked with the water derived from blending various herbs together. Original recipe uses about 100 types of herbs, if according to the elderly ladies. Later it was reduced to only 40+. Nowadays, most people but uses only a few very aromatic ones to keep the flavors intact.
      The rice, cooked with the herba juices, are so aromatic. Mixed with kerisik, various ulams and a dash of Budu then mixed them well. Have it with the keropok ikan and watermelon slices and OMG! It's so delicious you will forget you're still on Earth! 😂
