Johan did a terrific job opening this episode, explaining your reference texts. I'm not a naval architect but thoroughly enjoyed your choices and descriptions.
Your farm and barn work certainly culminate with that wonderful, inspiring view.
I'm continuing to watch with enthusiasm with and for you!

How clever of you to install strip lighting in the sky!!!! 6.30 into the vlog. I’m impressed. The last one to say “let there be light” was quite famous too.

Happy New Year to Johan, Malin and Vera. I get great joy from seeing the children of the TH-cam sailing community get to see the wonderful planet we have inherited. May their knowledge and strength be enough to put right the mistakes of their forbears. I won't be here to see their success, but if you, Johan and Malin, are anything to go by, the foundations are strong.

I love 📚. ❤️ I hope they continue making them. Nothing replaces, holding a book, the smell, turning a page, marking your favorite verses, or tabbing for future reference. Thank you for sharing the last seven years of your life and the beautiful montage of 2022. Happy New Year 🥳🎉 May 2023 be better than the rest.

I agree, also books do not have their hard drive on their PC's fail totally. Same as people who venture to offshore voyages without proper paper maps relying on GPS. Clearly they are not aware that if a conflict / war breaks out between the major first world nations, that all GPS c0-ordinates are skewed by their owners, Russia, China, USA and so on. Having a back-up GPS as many boat owners proudly tell you, also are useless. Always have the appropriate maps to hand on Paper.

( crossing fingers for a brother or sister for Vera while you have some land time - if I might be so bold 😋). Best to you both. I live near Niagara Falls in the State of New York, USA.

One of the great values of Skene's is it teaches you how to calculate performance parameters pre computer days. Moments Fore and aft, Moments aloft etc. Computers can cloud your knowledge as to how and why certain parameters are calculated and why. Computers are wonderful, but can make things so easy that you miss grasping the underlying principles. This book just has a wealth of usable information, including weights of materials, interior and deck layout. I promise you, you will be a better yachtsman, designer and builder if you read this book!

A couple of books for ya: "The fractal geometry of nature" - Mandelbrot, for a deeper understanding of the natural world and it's products, like wood... Kind of abstract, but useful from time to time. One for later, perhaps when voyaging to the new world again - "1491" by Mann, very interesting view of the Americas and may open up some new destinations to explore. A couple of deep thought to ponder which occur to me after reading those: Another way to view existence is as a "recursive environment model", an "environment" being something with in's, cycles and out's. For example your boat/vessel is a kind of environment, each person, your organs, your cells, nucleus,... The Earth is inside a solar environment, a galactic environment, a universe,... Another thought, "life leverages the energy flows in our environment" - even if you don't initially see it, if you look for these you find them. The wind, the waves, current flows in rivers, in the ocean,... You can find life leveraging these, even your boat motion does this, the dolphins riding the bow wake. Have a great new year!!!!

Much has changed since I started the build of my boat back in 1976 but wood is a constant. I used Michael Verney's "Complete Amateur Boatbuilding" as an authoritative source of information on wood properties. I recall a comprehensive table of comparisons of different types of wood - how easy to work, expected life wet and dry, weight, screw holding, etc. I seem to recall Western Red Cedar came out on top for life expectancy when wet.

Congratulations on getting started - you have made a lot of good decisions with your build. You must however look at all things that save you time - buying hatches for example. I strongly suggest that you enable your community to donate specifically to the big cost areas - the rig and sails also the engine and all that is attached to it plus the battery/electrical/navigation systems
You need to think about how you achieve a 2 year build time
Well done so far - you are doing well
