Deft Clear Wood Finish is a nitrocellulose lacquer and is not compatible with most modern finishes and may cause blistering or dissolving of the original finish. You need to know what you are working with before applying any topical surface finishes. Usually some shellac or some water based polyurethane will do the job without causing any problems.

I have a strip mahogany veneer table over mahogany with light but annoying scratches. I am terrified of doing anything to it. Will this clear wood finish deal with those light scratches without changing color? It looks like you're is unnoticeable - can one spray and then go over it to make sure there are no drips etc? What a fabulous video - thank you so much!

Good effort but there is a way to get the scratch or chip completely invisible, use wood filler, sand it level, lacquer the colour back from where you sanded it, draw the grain back in with graining sticks/ pens or even paint them lacquer it again for a protective sealant 👌

I can see the repair after you put on the spray, you can take a fine line of black or darker color to keep the wood grain where its only red and this would hide it even better. Almost invisible you would really have to look to find the repair.
I take it the fill pens are made of a wax? hows this work with Poly? Poly's used on floors, but I've been using it on kitchen cabinets it holds up a lot better the lacquer finish also the more gloss the harder the surface this is also true with paint's from what I've read and seen.

I have a question, i got a desk and the top of the table wasn't real wood and my dad tried sanding it down, I'm pretty sure its a type of plastic with a laminate on top, is there a way yo fix the dark patch that was created from the sanding.

    • @Movingtips4you
      @Movingtips4you  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Miss Finsta there really isn’t. It’s kinda like sanding a sticker... you can kinda go back in and match grain and color but it’s going to be a pain and uneven.

Would this work for a wood looking covering on a TV stand? What I mean is it not a veneer type cover but more of a thin wrap over MDF board to make it look like a wood finish.

    • @Movingtips4you

Maybe just a brown sharpie market for that. It’s too thin.

It’s a pedestal table with small chips in the veneer right along the center edge where you would drop in or lift out the center leaf of the table…

Hi, not sure if you could help. I have a wood veneer dresser that got wet over the years and now has a pretty big spot that puffed up. It’s right on the little trimming design. Is there anyway I can fix that? Thank you.

I want to just pull it off every time I see it. But I know then all the pressed wood would be damaged. It’s “painted” with this black laminate.

Hi Vaal Gee, sense it’s the compressed wood on the bottom of the veneer that has absorbed the water and it’s impossible to fix it and make it look normal. Some would say to cut a square size of veneer , remove the swollen particle board then even it back with the veneer by gluing it back and then touch it up (like I do in the video) but that’s a huge head ache. Sorry I couldn’t help much, thank you for seeing my video. Please feel free to ask any more questions.

adolfo Hi, I figured it would probably be impossible. Thank you though! Your video was very helpful. I’ll just continue covering it with decor lol

what about a scratch going against grain...its only the poly layer. Do I have to send it out?

+Settles Sweeties hmmm, try this trick, wet a small piece of cloth and rub over it. If it makes a big change over the scratch then all you need is a lacquer finish or the original type of finish.

Cool! The title mentions laminate furniture. Would it work for laminate flooring too? We have a coffee table with eight feet and I frequently like to move it to do workouts but it’s so awful when it makes a big scratch! I cringe whenever I get ready to move the table, and cross my fingers. Sometimes it’s okay. I know I need to get felt or something for the feet, but I would love to make the scratches disappear.

+Melanie Hevel-Olson hmmmm, I would say that if there isn’t a lot of foot traffic I don’t see why not. Especially if you keep high heels off of it.

adolfo Thank you! Yeah not much foot traffic and definitely no high heels around here, LOL 😊

Also, add those soft pads to the bottom of the feet. For $5 they'll never scratch the wood again when you move it. 👍

Sarah Marson Apparently you didn’t read where I said, “I know I need to get felt or something for the feet” 😉 Anyway, it was quite some time ago when I wrote that, and I have since gotten felt pads for the feet, so yes, that’s done. I live in a small town and had already gone to different places including the furniture store to try to get pads for the feet, and they didn’t have any. So I had to wait until I could get the feet pads elsewhere.
