Don’t waste your time searching. This is the one and only correct video for this type of repair. Well done it’s nice to see an actual craftsman make content.
Looking at the depth of those scratches I couldn't see how you were going to repair it. Silly me! I'm watching Ross Taylor. How dare I doubt his ability!!!
I love your videos! Very educational, easy going, well communicated. Hundreds online and yours plus one other channel are for me the best in restoration channels. Thanks, Ross!
That was incredible..! Thanks, I really needed that info, it’s so helpful. I have a similar situation with a surface that has some scratches, and even some cigarette burns. I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to get it close to looking new again now. I hope your business is going great.
Did you wet sand the entire piece to make sure the finish was even? I have a large dining table which had similar small area of scratches but I guess I’ll need to sand and coat the entire length of table?
Thanks for Sharing the Video - great information...What would you recommend for a 1960's Teak Office desk to keep the Wood desktop maintained ie the ones with a Leather green inlay ... where my hands are constantly touching ect..Oil or Finish ? seems like a semi- Satin finish on the desk at the moment
Good job! I have a question, may I show you my table and can you please give me some advice, could I repair it or not? There's really big scratches, so I need your advice
I thought you couldn’t/shouldn’t use wax on lacquer. Please explain…I need to fix several pieces and they all have a lacquer finish. Thank you in advance.
I have the same situation in a beautiful mid century modern desk, the scratches are not only deep, but wide, as if someone had made them with a key. Do you think the same technique you used here will work? Thanks
He did exactly as I thought: scraping the old varnish, removing the marks from the scratches of the wood (use of paint), a first layer of transparent varnish to disguise the scratches (he used spray varnish, I would use a viscous clear varnish and do a flattening of the varnish with the scratches grooves), to immediately afterwards do the complete varnishing of the wood.
I have a bunch of cat scratches on a table I am trying to get out. I will try that. I saw online people were using hard wax to fill in the cracks. I was going to try both methods and see what blends better.
I want to be just like you when I grow up to.... 'sept I'm already 75 LOL!! I've been weathering through the Kung Flu by salvaging pieces of furniture tossed out on garbage day and your videos have been not only an inspiration but also profoundly educational... Keep up the great work and I sincerely hope you survive this disaster!!!
As a female I learn so much from watching your TH-cam videos. the only thing I have a question on what is the term orange peeling if you can describe what that is. Thanks again

Kind of what about the rest of the table
Hi. Can you clarify the materials you use please? Water based dye? And what sort of acrylic? Many thanks

What a transformation. You have patience and skill. Beautifully done.
Wow! You did a beautiful job on that table top, Ross! I think that it's prettier now than it was before, even if it hadn't had the scratches before!
Great job - Beautiful piece. Glad the owner didn’t paint it white! 🤣😂
Thanks for showing this. Wish I knew sooner.

BRAVO! That looks amazing dude.
Very nice table. I have one similar, not as fancy, I haven’t opened it in a while. Now I’m curious. Good place to store cards or whatever inside.
That was incredible..!

Great technique.

I didn't get the jargon you used to state what chemicals you used. Without that, I can't implement your suggestions. Could you post them?
Beautiful job like always!
WOW, you did such a good sympathetic job on that - BRILLIANT :-)
Please list the products used in your videos.
Wonderful job!
Master craftsman!
Beautiful work!
Wow - that's beautiful. Thank you for this video! What is the acrylic spray that you used?
Nice Job Scott, Stay Safe !!!.
Is there anything you can’t do!
Bravo Ross 👏👏

Beautiful table and beautiful job on the scratches!

Wow. Great job! 👍
As usual, a super job! Would appreciate knowing what the acrylic spray was
Do you clean up the sanding dust in between spray coats? If so, what do you use?
Excellent job! LOVE this video, just what I was looking for. May I ask what type of Aniline dye you are using? Powder or liquid?
Dam that table looks good 👏👏👏👏👏
Again....MAGIC!
Any advice on matching stain/finish?
What is the name of the acrylic your using? What do i look it up under at Home Depot?
Would you be able to provide links for the products you use
Great job. Patience is the name of the game. People like myself are looking for the magic marker quick fix. Not going to happen.
Nice patch up job rather than stripping and high build French Polish.
I was like 1K!!!;) nice work buddy. 👍
Did you open it up to see the damage the Naptha did to the inside where it was folded over?
the naptha does not do any damage to the finish , some did get underneath , but no harm . i waxed the other surfacers as well
@@rosstaylorwoodworking728 OK good to know
That was amazing!
Hi by any chance can you list the products you used in this video I found it really helpful but not sure what products I should use
Did you get a response on products?
What the heck is a TSP?
Trisodiumphosphate
Can you list the name of the "acrylic: you are using? I have no clue what product you are referring to. Thank you.
Did you manage to get the name of the acrylic?
Thank you so much for your video. Do you have any tips on color matching? Thank you in advance. You are so talented!
Did you get any response to colour matching?
Thanks Ross! Super video!! 😊😊✝✡
Ross, everything I've seen about TSP says don't get it on your skin. is that wrong or are your hands that tough?
top? The purpose of wet sanding as opposed to dry sanding?
what's the liquid on 6:12 ?can I substitute it with walnut gel? Thank you
I thought you couldn’t/shouldn’t use wax on lacquer. Please explain…I need to fix several pieces and they all have a lacquer finish. Thank you in advance.
paste wax can be used on any finish
I have the same situation in a beautiful mid century modern desk, the scratches are not only deep, but wide, as if someone had made them with a key. Do you think the same technique you used here will work? Thanks
try it and see , if not you would have to strip the finish . if the scratches go into the wood you will likely have to strip

Can you send a link to the varnish you would use?
@@stumbino8361 It would be any canned varnish that can be applied with a brush.

How come you didn't just use acrylic candles sticks
STANDING OVATION GOD BLESSED TALENT

What is the spray he uses? And where can I get the die?

Nice repair. Hopefully the owner will have more respect for the piece now.

Great job!!!
It looks a hundred percent better
Sorry Nice Job Ross, Stay Safe !!!.
As a female I learn so much from watching your TH-cam videos. the only thing I have a question on what is the term orange peeling if you can describe what that is. Thanks again
when spraying a full wet coat of finish , it can 'orange peel ' or look bumpy due to contaminants in the old finish
What do you mean by acrylic?
acrylic spray , similar to lacquer
Amazing!
What's tsp?
I love the real wood furnitures. They are beautiful! Ikea is just cheap shit
First thing should have been to wash it with soap and water oil base solvents don't take off water base contaminants
