It don’t make no sense. I seen a girl south the same length of hair as the weave she got FOR WHAT ???! AND before they did the install they didn’t trim off all the damage they they really should have. It’s crazy.
How can it be called a "protective style" when so many wear wigs 364 out of 365 days of the year? What are they protecting? At which point do they actually start to enjoy their real hair? It's so boring to see so many of us walking around in the same "uniform".
THIS! And the only time its not on is when its to show off length? Then its back to wigs and weave again. There is nothing protective about it, if your hair is still growing its out of pure luck. Our hair isnt some disability it thrives in extreme heat and humid weather conditions. It can still thrive in the winter with enough water and grease lol, there is no reason for us to hide the crown away almost all yr along

Its because you can not moisturize your ends when they are under wig. I would recommend anyone who wears many wigs or weaves to get a professional hair stylist for the after care. Length retention comes from keeping old hair moisturized. When your hair is cornrowed, sure you will oil the scalp but there is no way to properly hydrate your hair length. As a result, when taking them down after a month, those ends are more dry and likely to break off when detangling. Mini braids under a wig, is a much much better option.
@@akacedmy friend hair was healthy and down to her waist. She wore her hair in plaits instead of cornrows under her wigs and also gave her wigs a break and would wear her real her out as well

Wigs and weave dont lead to hair retention. wigs and braids are not the issue. Please let’s not put that out there. The only issues here is the fact that people are lazy to actually to take care of their hair. Wigs and braids do help with protecting the hair , especially for someone like me , with 4c hair. Always styling , touching, combing or having my hair rubbing on different materials (clothes, hats , etc ) will cause breakage for me. My hair in its natural state will cause me to have fairy knots , and unnecessary splitting ends , so my hair thrive in a straighten state BUT constantly straightening my hair will cause me more damage. This is where braiding my hair and wigs help me. I personally don’t like how braids look on me so I do wear wigs over it . I love a wig for the simple fact that I like coloured hair without altering my natural black hair colour. To me it’s a smart way of having fun with your hair without the damage. Now I keep my hair braided for 2-3 months at a time. But I wash my hair weekly , moisturizer my hair 3 times a week and cut my split ends every 3 months . My hair is very much thick , full of body, and has growth down my back, past bra strap length. My goal is to have healthy tailbone hair and personally with this routine I know I can be there quick. Before wigs were a thing, back in high school I couldn’t get my hair to past shoulder length because I always had my hands in my hair, styling and combing it every morning. Now personally I’m only growing my hair to prove to myself that I don’t need 3a hair , or to be mix to have long hair for a black girl, so I generally don’t care for my hair to be out for the world to see , I love taking off my wig every night and knowing I have sexy health hair privately. I’m not embarrassed or ashamed of my African 4c textured hair. I don’t think anyone should tell you what you should do to your hair and how you should wear it. Do what you feel is the best for you..but obviously be health about it. God bless.
I was only able to bring my hair back to a healthy state by wearing a wig for months. No glue, or sewing and no leave out; just worn with a velvet wig grip band to protect my edges and keep the wig secure. This allowed me to moisturize and massage my scalp daily, shampoo weekly, and not have to manipulate my hair or use gels and hair dye. I don't really care to wear my hair out because of the maintenance required using manipulation and products which cause breakage. I find I'm waaaay more concerned about how my natural hair looks throughout the day and always "fixing" it. My natural hair seems to just be for the enjoyment of myself and my man at home, lol. 😄
