Heartless is a masterpiece imo.
This is my album of the year so far…
This is easily their best album for me, been on nonstop repeat since it dropped
Exactly
Your Midwest Emo slander shall not go unanswered.
That track slaps, that intro is fire, and doom metal is just emo for guys who've read too many Forgotten Realms novels for their own good(like me).
Everything about this album you seem to dislike are the reasons why I appreciate it more than any album they have done before.
10/10 album, five skulls for Crom and kudos to Brett for having the balls to let his vocals stands out so bone dry in places.
hating on midwest emo while liking power metal is funny to me, blayne is being lame
Wow. I have listened to this album 3 times over, and it just might be my favorite album this year so far...Thanks for this different review.
I agree. Great, great album
I love this record. Heaviness is more than just distorted riffs.
Your example of “Brett’s vocals on Daybreak” isn’t actually him singing so kind of a swing and a miss on that one
Wasn't a big fan of their last album but this is probably their best album to date. Hits way harder emotionally than anything they've done before. It's more melodic overall and somber but there's still some crushing riffs to be found.
If you can take away the heavy screams, guitars and replace it with heavy emotions and atmosphere, then it does the job. This album is in a step in the right direction.
I like it more than I thought I would. Pleasantly surprised after forgotten days. I absolutely love Heartless as well.
My favourite moment of metal bands is when they transition to more post rock or prog, to a more redemptive sound. That is the hardest transition for metal bands, the ultimate test of execution and evolution.
Hey before the review wanted to just say I was stoked for this record and it didn't disappoint. Loved it!
8:00 "Does this enhance your listening experience?".... YES! The wider, the more non metal the better.
That's not Brett singing on Daybreak, it's Joseph , i think he did really well
Forgotten Days did not hold my attention very well so I was glad that the singles for this new album sounded much better. I loved the experimentation on Heartless but probably hold Foundations Of Burden as my favourite from them.
This is Pallbearer’s best album. It’s one of the best albums of 2024 and it’s one of the best albums of the 2020’s.
I fucking loved this album and the vibe and production were bewitching🤘
This album is growing on me. Heartless is a masterpiece and I don't understand the hate Forgotten Days is having. I freaking love it. Caledonia alone would worth the listen. But yeah, I was expecting more of this release and I am a couple of listenings in and it's getting better. Let's see if it's going to become a favorite.
Sarah should have covered this one.
Not liking Heartless is a crime against doom, your card is revoked.
Everyone loves this album on the internet.... man i just want some Foundations of Burden Pallbearer. Bring back the heavy!
Yes! Foundations of Burden and Sorrow and Extinction were great, man. Heartless was ok, had its moments, and I lost interest halfway through the first song of the last album...
This album is great from start to finish. "Where the Light Fades" is worth the price of admission alone.
Heartless is a doom classic. Sorry...
His take on Heartless is ridiculous. Very hard to take him seriously on this one
@@PainofRazeration Blayne is a fraud kinda wish Sarah reviewed the album instead
Don't be
Fair. Though tbh, they lost me a little around The Fear and Fury EP, and haven't caught me since. I don't love Heartless like a lot of people do. I can see why people might love it, but something about the smoothed and shorn edges, or the reduction in fuzz - I dunno, it just feels less expansive, less raw, to me, than the first two albums. So I do chime with what Blayne is saying, in that sense.
Their best album imo.
I'm probably what one would call a Pallbearer fanboy, so I'm fairly unreasonably stoked for this new release. Glad to see them back at it.
To each his own i actually love what they did on this album i still feel like heartless was my favorite album, but i really appreciate the expeormentation here, and i honestly like brets vocals alot they feel honest theyre arent perfect and i think hes probably aware of that.
Paulbearer huh
Oooooh yeeeeeees!
This is their best album. Sorry, “signals” song of the year.
It’s Sabbath & Type O all. In. One
This is my number 1 album of the year. I don't think anything will surpass this record. I understand this is different from their other material, but it does not mean that it is any less genius. Not only is it my top record of the year, but it may make my all time top 10. If you haven't heard this record yet, WTF are you doing!!????!!!
Don't think they will ever beat the track 'Foreigner', but this sounded okay.
They didn't go rock they went Prog
yep. sounds like they had some Elder-envy
They've always been prog adjacent...
Foundations of Burden has been my favourite closely followed by Heartless. Although my favourite track is probably 'Dropout'. Definitely not as blown away by the newer stuff but still interested.
You nailed my feelings on how Pallbearer’s sound changed with each of their albums. Heartless has grown on me with time but overall I prefer the first two.
Accusing you of only liking two genres seems ridiculous when you routinely talk about crust, speed and thrash releases, and specifically make a point of including an out-of-left-field album in your shout outs. But across the channel I feel like there are other reviewers who do tech, core and prog releases. The fact that you, Riley and Sarah review the genres that I’m mainly into, and do so with insight and good humour, are likely why you’re the only reviewers I really pay attention to, on this channel and outside of it.
I am going to dive into this album right away. I get tired of Death and Black metal all the time.
I miss Type O Negative.
The final guitar solo on the title track, man, I can feel the ghost of Peter Steele being summoned. It's a great album.
Yes, all metal doesn't have to be death or black. It gets boring actually
I love the song Daybreak
The vocals always seemed off with the later stuff, but I still am going to listen to it at least a couple of times. As always, I love the sense of humor brought to this. And I love diverse reviews.
Why did these guys go emo lite? Did the Undertaker show up?
I'm definitely a Pallbearer fan boy but the last album definitely lost me especially with the production. This one at least sounds like a step in the right direction. Just accepted I'm not getting Foundations of Burden again or even Heartless at this point
Ditto
Pallbearer used to be kinda heavy, but I find them to be an ultimate lullaby snorefest the last few releases.
It's only 6 songs. At least we know you won't complain about how long the album is.
This album rules ass.
This album is sick as a prog album, not as much as a doom album
so wrong this album is fantastic
Oh man, I'm still hoping you might review the new Unleash the Archers! You guys didn't do the last one either. 😢😢😢
Bitchin' record!
@@CraigMader RIGHT???
they skip so much stuff so they can review a bunch of filler black and death metal albums...
BEST. OUTRO. EVER.
Bro what wrong with you what about that payoff on that last song off the album
Paul?
Lol 😂
wtf lol just noticed
Inb4 they reupload the review
I mean I love Heartless. Don't really understand how you don't love that record. I'm not super happy with this new one though :(
That end card was the first time id ever heard the lyrics to that song
Im sorry, but Forgotten Days is awesome!
I loved this one!
The first two records are maybe my favorite doom records ever. Heartless was good too, but not a “masterpiece” imo lol
I saw them do a few of these songs in Dallas last November and I really dig it. Pretty solid album
Recomand some bands : SPACESLUG, Void Cruiser, Roadkillsoda, Acid Magus
I totally agree with you, that first album hooked me. After that, they kind of got boring. And how about those awkward pauses during the acoustic piece? Lol?
i have enjoyed every record of them unfortunately except from this one. This is turning into mid katatonia for me.
Daybreak? I’m going to sleep
Tbh ivnever enjpyed them after their first album. I agree with B
Rateyourmusic fucking rules, Blayne. Love ya anyway ❤
And this is the best part of the review 4:23
I love Daybreak!
All the tech available for noise cancellation now and they couldn't get rid of the 60 cycle hum during that unplugged bit.
I love Heartless. but I admit I don't know the 1st one to well.
You didn't like Heartless??? That was the peak for me. But Forgotten Days was just wallpaper to me. Nothin special there.
I'm a much bigger fan of this record than you are but I had to toss you a like, the sax thing was too funny 😂 I'll admit I'm new to Pallbearer so I don't have a comparison point for this, and I do think it sits on the more radio-friendly alt-rock-influenced side of doom, but man, it's just stunning.
3 Skulls? Really? Ok, subjectivity to the extreme.
Come on guys, Blayne is funny (sometimes), but always, in every single Overkill Reviews, that´s a bad joke!
Curmudgeon? Nah. Grandiose, faultfinder, gatekeeper, yes but not curmudgeon
yikes
Thanks, Blayne. I was interested to hear this album but hadn't gotten around to it... Now I know I don't need to listen to it.
I came across that Vastigr release the other day and enjoyed it though, so 'right-on' there.
Doom metal might be my favorite subgenre, but god, doom metal bands sure fucking like doing this kind of thing for some reason
Interesting namechange 😂
Pallbearer?! I barely know 'er!
This album bored me to death
But how many times we have to tell you is pronounced "meh saako un oho" 😅
I dunno; for me their debut is my least favorite of theirs (albeit by a fairly narrow margin). It comes down to I like the band but feel like heavier music is the thing they’re the least good at. Granted, those albums sit in the 7ish/10 range of good not great for me, but I’ll never be upset at hearing them. I’ll probably give this one a spin; maybe moving further away from metal and introducing some new ideas will be a plus for me.
Man you're way off on this one
Hmmmmmmmm, I really need to get some work done and Pallbearer is making me snooze... back to Gate Creeper I go.
Who's Paul and why does he need a bearer? Can't he support himself?
Better than 'Forgotten Days' for sure. But feels too soft. A band that can write a 'Sorrow and Extinction' and a 'Foundations of Burden' is capable much more than this.
Oh goodie, Blayne is back 🙄
Blane has had a tough run lately! 😂
Anybody know what band shirt Blane is wearing?
Kekt Arakt or however you spell it. Pale Swordsman was a great album from them
NOOK YA LURRR
I feel like there’s so many moments in the new stuff where I think “ok we have tension, where’s the release??”. Where’s the big catchy riff? So disappointed with their last two
Sorrow and Extinction is their Magnum Opus
Heartless is almost perfect
New album not so much
2 Genre curmudgeon. I wonder why. Everything you recommend is either Death or Black, or is Blackened in some manner. You only ever include other genres as "palette cleansers".
You basically never recommend anything in the prog space, or most other genres outside of "traditional" types, and are actively hostile to almost anything that could be seen to be even adjacent to dreaded "Nu" despite that sub-genre keeping metal relevant outside of the underground. Sure Limp Biskit is utter trash, and there are so many middling bands in the space, but there was/is innovation, evolution, and revitalization as well. There is great Metalcore, Deathcore, Alt, prog, post, and whatever but if its not pure Death, or Blackened in some way Blayne is not going to recommend it, or likely even talk about it.
The thing is mate, while other reviewers also have their preferred or specialist genres, they dont talk shit about the things they're not into. Like you do. All the fkn time.
All that being said your original Bell Witch review is probably the best review I have ever watched.
Emo Doom...the end is nigh.
Nu-cle-ar homie. Not Nuke-u-ler
he also says "A-Boot" instead of "A-Bout". What can ya do?
@@independenceltd. Maple speak, eh 🍁
I was all on board with Sorrow and Extinction but Pallbearer are dead to me now, the most cringe "Doom" non-Metal band
🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Big fan of Pallbearer but this album is almost unlistenable imo. I do like how every one of their albums sounds completely different but I just can't get into this at all.
Bands embarassing themselves to try to get a wider audience, that's so cliché
boring asf!!!!!
I told you Monolord was better
Wow you're really harsh with these guys. The new album is still growing on me, although Where the Light Fades has become one of my favorites from the band; but come on...Heartless is not heavy? Like...what? Forgotten Days is strange and a bit meandering, but Heartless is not heavy? Seriously?
Gonna call it. This thing way too chill for his hyperactive add ADHD selves…
This album is legit boring, it just drones on and on
This album was just so aggressively mid
