    Thank you Jill for sharing your wealth of information. Prior to passing my first kidney stone last week, based on calculations that I did, I was eating almost 10,000 oxalates a day. All of these were to heal my brain injury. Oh yes, they help my brain a great deal but caused a kidney stone. Damned if I do and damned if I don't. Your videos have given me a new perspective; I went from panic over eating anything and fasting (not a problem for me due to no hunger symptoms due to a TBI) to now where I "Just eat in moderation." I thank you and my husband thanks you. You are a gem!

      I am curious to know what high oxalate foods you are eating which help to heal TBI?!

    • @jojow8416

      @@TMZDDZ My day started with a drink with almond, hemp milk hemp oil and two tablespoons of a combination of Bacopa powder, Cacao powder, Matcha powder, Tulsi seeds, Sanchi Inchi powder and my day ended with a the same milk and two TBSP of a combination of turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, oregano, pepper & Hemp oil. I also had two TBSP of a combination of white poppy seeds, hemp oil, black seed oil, turmeric, cumin, oregano & coconut powder. All of these formulas were created by a holistic health coach to help heal the TBI and help me with serious sleep issues. I rarely got more than 3 hours a night and sometimes none at all. I was also instructed to consume a variety of other things during the day and to reduce my water intake which has always been high. I was told that all the water that I consumed was causing harm to my kidneys. It was at that time that I decided not to take any more of her advise.

      @@jojow8416 that's a lot of seeds! I asked because I researched a few years ago when my father had a TBI. The first thing that came to my mind was fish oil and I assumed you were taking that and I wondered how that was high in oxalate?! I'm sure that coach advised as they thought best at the time. We now know that curcumin is much lower in oxalates than turmeric. I'm not a medical professional, and I'm sure you've done a ton of research, but as I said the first thing that comes to mind when I hear TBI is to eat a lot of fish/oil. Look up JJ Virgin and her son Grant's story of TBI. Also, Cavin Balaster of FeedABrain.com. He was on the brink of not surviving, but did and is better than ever. Both of them recommend lots of fish and omegas. It's been a few years so I don't know if that has changed, but it's something to look into if you haven't already. I wish you well! ♥

      @@TMZDDZ You are correct on Omega 3s being beneficial in helping the brain heal from a TBI and I had been taking a supplement until I was instructed to stop and get my omega3 from plants. I grow and dehydrated purslane which is high in omega 3s and also daily ate walnuts, chia seeds, flaxseed and hemp seeds which are also a source. The woman who worked with me was a strict vegan and instructed me to stop taking all my supplements. Her methods worked to a degree, but she was very aggressive in how she handled my situation.
      That was a blessing in disguise because my kidney stone would have been even larger if I hadn't stopped taking her advise. She also had me daily consuming a variety of Indian seeds that were suppose to help with hormonal problems.
      I am a silver lining kinda spirit who always focuses on the bright side of life feeling that everything is meant to teach us something. This kidney problem, like all my other health issues, will be a thing of the past and I can pass on all that I learn to others to help them avoid such a thing happening to them.
      Thank you Jill! I wish you an evening of rest and relaxation.

    As a former chocoholic, I totally gave up chocolate when I had my first stone in 2020. I had recently received an order from my favorite Chocolate Company when I found out I had a stone! I'm so excited that I CAN have even small amounts of chocolate, which is so much better than none at all...Thankfully, I froze this wonderful chocolate which I can now carefully consume! :)!!

    Milk chocolate has a lot of calcium which binds with oxalates in the intestine’s. Still safe to take in moderation..

    I found this session very interesting. You are right about who has the knowledge about oxalates. My PCP didn't realize until I told him about your oxalate list the other day, how I had to watch what I ate and how I had to count the Mgs of oxalates I consume in a day. My number is a whole lot more restrictive so the Harvard Oxalate List you have provided is an excellent reference for me. I like your Chez It comment and like you I would eat a lot of them in one sitting, but now I actually count them out and savor them. Not as much fun, but a whole lot better for me.

    Love this episode! Having to potentially give up chocolate--forever--depresses me. I felt like finding out I'm a stone producer was karma: my mom passed from CKD/kidney failure (not related to KSs). I used to chastise her for always wanting (and getting) chocolate when she wasn't supposed to (and alcohol and cigarettes...sigh). I would tell her that if I had to give up chocolate or any type of food for my health, I would and could do it. Ha! Joke's on me, but I'm happy to hear I can "Eat Responsibly." I'll miss my beloved spinach, but given a choice, I'd rather give it up than my few M & M's now and then!

    Really enjoy your Videos Jill, Thanks for all the info ! I'm a Uric Acid stone producer and i love nuts to snack on, now i know you've been vocal about watching Almond intake, but what about others such as: Peanuts, Cashews, Walnuts, Pistachios etc... Thanks again!

    • @TheKidneyStoneDiet
      @TheKidneyStoneDiet  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      All nuts should be eaten in portion size. Not the handfuls and handfuls people. Check your Harvard list, there are still ones you can enjoy like pistachios... Getting your calcium is even more important!

    I love cheese it’s. Is it the salt that is problematic or the portion per serving on the box that yo7 overdo?

    • @TheKidneyStoneDiet
      @TheKidneyStoneDiet  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course we all love cheese. Salt and fat! YUM! That is why swiss is the best to get calcium needs met but is also very low sodium. All cheese has calcium, but watch portions so you don't overeat your sodium goals.

    Cheese It’s! Very funny, I can’t have them or Gummie Bears in the house either. The box of cheese it’s is a portion, just like a bag of gummie bears.
