It makes more sense for Harry to not see thestrals in the books than the films, at least prior to Cedric's death. In the book of Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone, he passed out before seeing Quirrell die, whereas in the film, he clearly sees him die, so he should have seen the thestrals afterwards.
I agree honestly since if we are going with book logic then yeah he didn't see Quirrell die since he passed out (and was told later that Quirrell died) where as in the film logic (since the films did change things) he did see both Quirrell and Cedric died (so likely saw the thestrals from both of them since with his parents he was too young) so technically speaking in both forms he could of saw them sooner (depending which media you want to use)
Not to mention he was right there when Voldemort killed Lilly. This should be a universal rule independent of if the person has memory or self awareness, if someone died within your field of vision, it should count.
@@Akatsukileader9but again, I think this is more a movie thing than a book thing. It’s been a while, but I don’t know if the book explicitly says Harry was facing and looking at Lily when she’s killed. He’s in the room, but as he was a very young toddler (15 months old), he may not have been looking in her direction. Yes, it’s a cop-out as to why he didn’t see thestrals since Day 1 at Hogwarts (or at least by his third year when he took the horseless carriages), and I’m not saying it’s right, but as a mom of three, it’s true that young toddlers aren’t always looking at the direction of the most action. Still, Harry should have seen the thestrals after Cedric’s death. There’s no reason for them to wait to appear to him in Year Five other than the author didn’t have it fully planned, or at least didn’t plan it well enough.
For J.K Rowling's explanations, the one about Harry being a baby makes sense. As for the second one, I think it's that Harry COULD see them at the end of his 4th year, but he didn't give it any mind at the time because he was too preoccupied with not just Cedric's death but also Voldemort's return.

As the late Queen of England used to say to unsuspecting tourists asking if she knew the Queen; she had never met the Queen, but her bodyguard knew her quite well. I support the idea that you cannot witness your own death.
Plus I don't think it work like that you got to witness death or be doing the killing to see them don't think you can see them witnessing you're own death
Pretty sure Dumbledore wasn't worried about splitting Snape's soul because it wasn't going to be an act of malice, and would therefore not split his soul.
There's also an argument that Snape was an adult whose life was already irreparably destroyed by the loss of Lily, while Draco was still a kid with his whole life ahead of him.
I would argue that a ghost may or may not be able to see thestrals, at least when it comes to their own death: you must witness it and then come to terms with/accept it, but a ghost is made when a witch or wizard can not accept death and remain. I'd say it could go either way.
Question: What if you believe someone died right in front of you without actually dying? If you never find out that this person is actually alive, would you still be able to see thestrals then?
Answer: Well I think that must count. You will possibly able to see Thestrals if the thought of a person's death has been accepted by you. The reason is--- Harry denied Cedric's death at the end of book 4 and he could not see at that point(Rowling confirmed this) So.........If a person cannot see thestrals because he or she denied it even if he or she saw it, the opposite can also happen i.e. A person CAN see thestrals if they accepeted the death of a person though he or she is not dead
That brings up an interesting brain teaser if being able to see Thestrals is dependent on “seeing” death and Hogwarts is full of ghosts shouldn’t most of the students and staff already be able to see Thestrals if they hadn’t before they came to school since ghosts are one of the few physical remnants of death that exist in the Wizarding world?

When Peter killed the 12 muggles, clearly the ministry would have the brains of the muggles who witnessed in the event altered. I wonder if they could still see thestrals even if the memory is altered. I feel like it's definitely possible as though witnessing death does something to your brain or person that can never be undone

I'd argue the Bloody Baron couldn't see thestrals because, as Nick explained, if you become a ghost, you don't really die, instead you choose the "imitation of life" that a ghost is. So Helena didn't actually die, meaning the Bloody Baron didn't see her death, so unless he saw someone else die, I don't think he could see the thestrals. For the same reason, I don't think their own deaths count either.

I think a ghost's own death would not count for the ghost as having seen death because they have not "died". In Order of the Phoenix Harry goes to see Nearly Headless Nick to ask if Sirius could have come back as a ghost. Harry asks "You're dead, aren't you?" Harry said exasperatedly. "Who can answer better than you?" to which Nick says "I was afraid of death,” said Nick. “I chose to remain behind. Like the Deatheaters, I suspect most of the Order of the Phoenix would have seen death. They might not have been the ones killing as often, but they would have seen it.
I love how much work you put into your videos! Doing so much research. One question: Greyback did witness the death of the three muggle boys he killed, didn't he?

I think that ghosts most likley can see thestrals, not because they saw their own deaths, but because I always interpreted it as seeing Death, the man, the myth, the legend, or in other, less fantastical words the concept of death as a whole. A ghost would not have witnessed someone DYING, but they would still have witnessed DEATH.

16:19 regarding the thestrals ridden in the Battle of Seven Potters, I believe Hermione didn't see Gibbon die, since she and Luna were in Snape's office after Snape stunned Professor Flitwick. Bill would've seen Gibbon's death if he was conscious, and I'm inclined to believe he did because it wouldn't make sense for both people riding a thestral to not be able to see it. Regardless, both Fleur and Bill would've been able to see the thestral after the battle, as both of them witnessed Mad-Eye's death.
The 3 muggle children Percival Dumbledore killed in retribution for Ariana could have meant 2 of the muggle kids could see thestrals in the case they were all present and if the kids didn't die all at once.
Ghosts would experience their own death, not observe it, Witnessing death would imply observation not experience. The only way you would observe your own death while experiencing it is if you were looking in a mirror when you died. And that might not even work if your eyesight was lost before your death.
14:14 Dumbledore said that because he didn't want a young man to get his soul ripped. However, it would be fine if Snape's soul was ripped because he is an adult and there wouldn't be much impact. Draco was too young, so Snape had to do it.
I think seeing Thestrals in your after life is not as simple as just being witness to a newly present death of someone else's body; as the ghost is the same after death as it was in life, the perception of themselves will not change in how they see things unless they die as territorial souls. Ghosts have to remember how they died as well as remember as seeing some one else die before them when they are alive at the time of that death, they can see thestrals; but if they have never witnessed another death in life or have no memory of having died, then they would not be able to see thestrals at all and professor Bins would be the only ghost we know of for certain is the case as have never seen visible thestrals.
One thing I’m curious about is whether or not Alice and Frank Longbottom could see Thestrals before they were tortured into madness by Bellatrix, Rudolphus , and Rebastian Lestrange along with Barty Crouch Jr. I mean, they fought in the first Wizarding War as part of the Order of the Phoenix, meaning that they would have to see a lot of people die in front of them. I mean, if you fight in a war, you’re bound to see people die. But after Alice and Frank were tortured into insanity, they lost the ability to see Thestrals as Rowling said you have to process the death of the person you witnessed be killed. And while Alice and Frank could still see people die in front of them, because their minds are completely destroyed, they can’t process the death. Let me know what you think.
Morgan, I have a question. What if you were to see a human die in their werewolf form? Would you see thestrals or not? Because technically werewolf’s can’t talk. Interesting to hear your opinion on it. Love the content, keep up the great work!
i am not surprised the number is that high honestly, considering that just in the main series everyone is living through a war and murders by mostly death eaters and voldemort himself.
Bill was a cursebreaker for Gringotts, so it is possible that he saw someone die while at work in Egypt, so I imagine he would see the Thestrals due to that

edit- also Flitwick might have seen Dolohov die in the battle of Hogwarts after he defeated him in a duel and Romilda Vane didn't see Voldemort die becuase she was with the younger students in Hogsmeade
I appreciate how much Morgan digs beep into Harry Potter Lord❤❤❤
Like the Deatheaters, I suspect most of the Order of the Phoenix would have seen death. They might not have been the ones killing as often, but they would have seen it.
I love how much work you put into your videos! Doing so much research. One question: Greyback did witness the death of the three muggle boys he killed, didn't he?
“Muggles can see thesterals”
Sweet I can se them
and that's called taking things out of context
Please post part 2 of your Breakdown and review Netflix avatar !!
I loved the lord of the rings break, seeing you outta your element was cool. But I’m so glad your Harry Potter coverage is back… Go Birds!
4:21 I'm going to guess not. They don't see themselves dying unless they happen to have a mirror in front of them.
Make this Riordanverse video Part 1: What The Characters’ Bogarts Are
Ex: Percy- Luke
Annabeth- Arachne
Grover- Polyphemus
Luke- May Castellan
Clarisse- Ares
Tyson- Sphinx
Thalia- The Sun Chariot
Nico- Cupid
Zoe- Atlas
Great video! The total might even be 123 because yusuf kama probably also witnessed the kills at grindelwalds rally.
Here’s a question: If you see someone die in a pensive, does that count? Can you see thestrals
3:46 4:38 5:05 5:25 5:52 6:27 6:57 7:01 7:39 7:51
I think that ghosts most likley can see thestrals, not because they saw their own deaths, but because I always interpreted it as seeing Death, the man, the myth, the legend, or in other, less fantastical words the concept of death as a whole. A ghost would not have witnessed someone DYING, but they would still have witnessed DEATH.
Gaunt is named after the street name in dr Jekyll and mr Hyde

6:29 wouldn’t Voldemort have witnessed death of moaning myrtle since that event happened in June 1943 and the other one was around August of that year
the basilisk is what killed myrtle
@linexi you don't have to be the killer to see thestrals (otherwise Harry wouldn't have seen them after Cedric's death), even if the basilisk is what actually killed Myrtle, seeing it still counts
@@linexi harry didn’t kill Cedric nor Luna with her mother and so on with other characters but was able to see the thestrals so I don’t think you have to be the one to kill the person just be a witness to the act and also be of a age where death is understood
Hey Morgan I think you might have missed Blaize Zabini in the movie, Crabbe wasn't even there, lol
Lol you’re funny
The vedio is according to the book, where crabbe conjures fienfire and also die.
Can you make a video of the so called Slytherin gang?
Basically 𝙳𝚛𝚊𝚌𝚘 𝙼𝚊𝚕𝚏𝚘𝚢, 𝙼𝚊𝚝𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚘 𝚛𝚒𝚍𝚍𝚕𝚎,𝚃𝚑𝚎𝚘𝚍𝚘𝚛𝚎 𝙽𝚘𝚝𝚝 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚖𝚘𝚛𝚎.

uh who is mattheo riddle.. Isn't it tom riddle?
@@ShellyDandysWorld18Fan fiction,Tom’s brother.I want to see more fanfic reaction. You can search him up.
I feel like dying would be like witnessing your own death, so I don't think it's illogical to assume ghosts can see Thestrals
Can you please make a vid about every spell Harry casted
"expelliarmus"
"expecto patronum"
are like the only ones he casted
18:00 crabbe's actor has legal issues?? damn the actor is just like crabbe himself fr
I love this video so much!
Even if ghost see themselves die Professor Binns would not be able to see them still since he died while he was asleep 😊
Never in a million years would I think that this many people would have witnessed death. Holy moly that’s a big number!
The 3 muggle children Percival Dumbledore killed in retribution for Ariana could have meant 2 of the muggle kids could see thestrals in the case they were all present and if the kids didn't die all at once.
tbh, its not confirmed they died though, thats a movie thing they added for extra spice.
Ghosts would experience their own death, not observe it, Witnessing death would imply observation not experience. The only way you would observe your own death while experiencing it is if you were looking in a mirror when you died. And that might not even work if your eyesight was lost before your death.
I love this knowledge I‘m learning because I’m a Huge Harry Potter fan I love your videos
Thanks for the good videos Morgan’s but POST THE RETURN OF THE KING VIDEO!!!!!!!!
Coming next
@@MovieFlame Omg you responded, thanks for the good content you really make my day
@@MovieFlamealso I think that maybe you should post some game of thrones, if you want too I think you would really enjoy it
14:14 Dumbledore said that because he didn't want a young man to get his soul ripped. However, it would be fine if Snape's soul was ripped because he is an adult and there wouldn't be much impact. Draco was too young, so Snape had to do it.
17:49 nope you’re wrong. Nobody ever tells you that you’re wrong
YOU JUST DID 😂😂😂😂
I think seeing Thestrals in your after life is not as simple as just being witness to a newly present death of someone else's body; as the ghost is the same after death as it was in life, the perception of themselves will not change in how they see things unless they die as territorial souls.

Why is she so cute I want to hug her
One thing I’m curious about is whether or not Alice and Frank Longbottom could see Thestrals before they were tortured into madness by Bellatrix, Rudolphus , and Rebastian Lestrange along with Barty Crouch Jr.
" Voldemort saw death after he killed family " and so many other people which ended up leading to the battle of Hogwarts
Morgan: “Does a ghost’s death count as a death to see thestrals?”
Me: brain starts melting
When is the part 2 of Netflix Avatar breakdown+review coming up?
I like the cursed child and think it’s interesting to see how the characters are doing after all that’s happened
Morgan, I have a question.
What if you were to see a human die in their werewolf form? Would you see thestrals or not? Because technically werewolf’s can’t talk. Interesting to hear your opinion on it. Love the content, keep up the great work!
If I had to guess, it would depend on if the werewolf was under the influence of Wolfsbane potion or not.
Great video. 👏👏👏
14:12 Dumbledore actually says that Snape should know that it would not split his soul to "save an old man from a humiliating fate."
i am not surprised the number is that high honestly, considering that just in the main series everyone is living through a war and murders by mostly death eaters and voldemort himself.
I am wondering where you got the clip of Voldemort killing Hepzibah from, I've never seen it before
Fan film credited in the description
Bill was a cursebreaker for Gringotts, so it is possible that he saw someone die while at work in Egypt, so I imagine he would see the Thestrals due to that
