UPDATE: I was hurting the next morning! and I'm still in quite a bit of pain especially my neck. But that could have been a whole lot worse so I'm not complaining. ;) Now I know I should have those solar panels angled better anyway and I already got the brackets. As soon as I get a new ladder and the weather improves I'm going to make those panels adjustable.

Hey there Dale, your neighbor next door in NH. Glad your okay and on the mend. Accidents happen no matter how careful we are sometimes or how often we might do it. Sometimes accidents can help us be safer because it reminds us that no matter how safe we are we can still fall victim (no pun intended) and we become more aware and cautious of what we are doing from that point on (The Wake Up Call) so to speak. Not sure if you're doing any hunting right now but I like watching your grouse hunts. 👍 Be safe and I look forward to your next video. 🇺🇲

I'm so glad you are ok Dale. I would suggest a fixed step ladder, you might need a 12'. Lean it against the roof and pin it at the bottom. Take some stakes, or better pipe ,and sledgehammer, 2 of them at the base of the ladder and drive them into the ground. You will be hard pressed to have the ladder come out on you. Also a fixed step ladder won't come apart. As a carpenter, who has made just about every mistake you can make, I believe that is what happened to you. Take care buddy! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family, and of course, The Cabin!!!!

  • @retiredyeti5555

Like you say, it could have been worse. When I redid the roof on my garage, I had 30 lb tar paper that I put on first. One morning I climbed up onto the roof, and when I stepped off the ladder, the tar paper ripped and I went off the roof . I was about 10 feet above the ground, and landed on my feet and splayed out fingers. with a hammer in my right hand. 28 years later, I remember that fall every time I look my right index and middle fingers, which are twisted to one side from the 2nd knuckle to the tip. They were not broken, just badly sprained. I taped them together with duct tape and went back to work on the roof. They turned all sorts of pretty colors, but were moveable the next day, so I never got medical attention. So much for my nursing judgement! If it had been one of my patients, I would have taken them to Urgent Care right away! Glad you are not busted up!

Hi Dale!! Man that was a hard fall. Really glad to see you didn't get hurt really bad. You probably need to go see the Chiropractor and get your neck put back in place.
That ladder actually looked like a pretty light duty one for a man of your size.

Holy moley... Good to see you are OK. Ladders are always a risk if you are on your own. Maybe think about relocating the solar panels to a ground stand? (I believe you once set up some like that for your fridge in a previous video). Might not look so unobtrusive but a lot safer to clear and probably more power generated to boot. Stay safe!

Dale glad your OK. I had that happen once because the feet of the ladder decided to slide off of the sidewalk. Rode it down and like you said it only takes 2 seconds to come down. Hope you fell better soon and maybe see if you can get those solar panels in a spot where you don't have to use a ladder in the snow, cold and ice. Take care.

You are truly lucky Dale. I am happy you are fine. I fell off my ladder trimming hedges 3 years ago and broke 2 ribs, so it could have been a lot worse. Thank God you are ok. I hate being more than 3 feet off the ground unless I am in a cockpit. I think making your solar panels adjustable is a great idea and should help with the snow accumulation on them. If you have them on a 45-55 degree angle they should be much better at shedding the snow and ice...plus you`ll get more direct sunlight with them angled. Feel better and enjoy the meds :)

Hi Dale, I'm glad you are ok. You were smart to get yourself checked at the doctor. A few years ago at work, before I retired, I contractor was climbing a ladder and it broke when he was about 10 feet up it. He fell straight down and fractured his ankle. I really try to be aware of safety when I am alone at my cabin. I have missed a rung on a ladder a few times but I was able to catch myself. I am super careful with the chainsaw - I always wear chaps, gloves, hearing and eye protection, and focus on what I am doing. Sometimes you do everything right, like in your case and the equipment decides to fail. I drained the water out of my cabin last week for winter. Have a nice Thanksgiving! - Dave

About the same height and same type of ladder but my security camera caught it and the feet of the ladder just slid out. I hurt my back so bad that it took 3 weeks with some help from chiropractor just to start feeling better, 6 months before pain was completely gone. But the first 3 weeks was wow, when I tried to get out of bed I'd drop to my knees the pain was so bad....

Man, glad you are ok! That could have been way worse. I am not afraid of heights, but I am always paranoid about ladders and often wonder how strong some of the chinese made things are. This will make me pay even more attention. You cooked that pork perfect!

About 15 years ago, a celebrity where I live was up a ladder doing some maintenance and fell off but hurt himself very badly.
It was an eye opener as far as home safety goes because the hospital he was admitted to said that they get 10-15 such accidents every weekend.
At work, we have magnetic attachments for securing ladders to the roof. We also have sturdy locking ladders for safe working at heights.
Good you are up ‘n about. Keep well now.

Hope you continue to improve. Be sure to have yourself re-checked if anything lingers. They can miss things the first time.
Panels might be best on the ground in/on a frame, maybe adjustment frame. Buffalo just had record snow fall. On the ground would be easier to keep up with larger amounts of snow.
