      Where are all ( if any) the AMD Advantage Laptops ? I haven't watched any of Jerrods Tech videos for almost a year now because of the lack AMD laptops the last year or 2, unfortunately.
      I know AMD has fallen behind in getting orders from OEMs for its, all-AMD, GPU and CPU laptops. However, it would be a good idea to at least try and test some against the other combos out there to see where AMD stands in its price to performance.
      I love competition, and it's the reason why I only buy and support AMD, as I don't want to ever see Intel have a monopoly on cpus again with crazy premium pricing on small gains, the way nvidia has the monopoly on laptop gpus now. Most people dont pay attention too, or remember, how prices can often be highly inflated by a company with this much market share. I, like many, still think it's important to promote the little guy (AMD). Competition, more often than not, helps every consumer and is easier on the wallet for everybody... ;).
      If your reading this Jerrod, please put, AMD laptop GPU testing in the title, or to that effect, so those of us who are researching and love, all AMD laptops can easily find and thumbs up your video. Always appreciated your time and detail from the last time AMD had a flagship laptop, tho that seems like it was 2 or 3 years ago....sigh.

    This is a masterclass of laptop reviewing! Fantastic job. We learnt things :)
    One little add: The G14 has a slight high pitched sound to its fan noise. I believe this is to do with airflow to the 3rd internal fan. So even though the G14's fan noise volume can be made simliar to Transcend, folks who are super sensitive to fan noise may find the Transcend's fan noise better due to that.

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      Hey thanks! I don't remember that with the G14, but also maybe it's just my ears. I need some sort of tool for objectively measuring pitch but need to look into that.

    • @aliginthahouse1
      @aliginthahouse1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      This is not entirely true for all units. I'm super super super sensitive to it and my g14 is perfect. Yes there's something very very very little noticable but coming from a few alienware laptops, it's nothing compared to those.

    • @JustJoshTech
      @JustJoshTech 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@aliginthahouse1 Good to hear. We have 2 units of the G14 and it happened on both of ours. I think though that an update from Asus makes the 3rd fan run less and therefore makes it not as obvious as it was.

    • @aliginthahouse1
      @aliginthahouse1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@JustJoshTech That's nice for those that are experiencing issues, however it's also possible to do this with G Helper, anyone who is sensitive to any high pitch noise from that little fan at high rpm can easily decrease the speed. But you're right. It's always Asus and Alienware's that somehow end up with high pitch fans. I've never experienced this with the lenovo legion line up, their fans always have been great to my ears

    I have the lower spec HP Omen 14 with 4060, 16gb ram, a 1 tb ssd. In all, I have been happy with it. Like you said, Eco mode is slow but if you are doing productivity work with documents and web browsing, it is worth the trade off for more battery. I actually only use balanced mode (limiting gpu to 50watts) for gaming. I choose to lower the resolution to 1920x1200 and use Reshade with Pascal's Launchpad and Clarity for upscaling and sharpening. Even in games with relatively poor performance like Helldivers 2, it still works quite well with a very rare stutter here and there. Now if Best Buy had the Zephyrus G14 2024 at the time, I would have bought that, but I haven't found this laptop disappointing and I've enjoyed away-from-home work and gaming on it.

    Wow, this review was so eye opening. No other review of this laptop puts it up against so many others in this many gaming benchmarks. So, a lot of those other reviews say that despite the lower power to the gpu, this device performs nearly as well as a full powered 4070, due to how efficient the 4070 is. Well.....that clearly is not the case. Maybe those other reviews are comparing against 4070 machines running in a lower performance profile, or the results were just cherry picked so that this laptop reflected better performance than it actually gets (specifically the gpu; the cpu seems completely fine of course). Thanks for making this video, JT. Have a great weekend man.

I had this laptop and loved it but ended up switching to a ROG flow x13 and happy I did. Yea it has the same lower watt GPU but I love the 2 in 1 form factor and the keyboard/touchpad are just as good, if not better. Also it was cheaper at $1800.00 since it was open box. The question really is how much more you value portability and how much you actually plan on playing while using the laptop monitor.
      15/16 inch are usually the entry level gaming laptops that focus on that aspect, 17/18 is the upper level for those that would prefer a larger screen (but otherwise same hardware).
      14 inch is more often focused on better portability, better battery power etc.
      One thing to keep in mind, the smaller the frame becomes the less room they have for upgradeability, cooling solutions and battery size.
      If you want to actually game on a laptop (and not use an external monitor for the most part) you should go with 15/16 inch at the least and even consider upgrading to 17/18. If you plan on using an external monitor more often and want a better portability than 14" might be better for you BUT you better check out some reviews about the specific model to actually get the model that offers the performance you want.

    This is why I got the RTX 4060 instead of the 4070 variant. I got it from Bestbuy so unfortunately no headset but I already had my Crusher Evo’s so yeah, love the laptop. It heats a bit too much for comfort when I push it to the limit like Raytracing in Fortnite or MSFS 2020 with each setting put to max instead of the max preset. Performs well at 1200p. It gives me around 5 hours with the GPU disabled and at eco settings and keyboard lighting off. The laptop was perfectly usable at those settings. 5 hours was perfect for my use case scenario so I’m happy with my purchase. Thanks a lot for the review!

      Does it overheat while gaming or any other issues you found? As a whole is it good for portability and office work and gaming too?

    • @dbnmore
      @dbnmore 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@starleo30 As for overheating, as long as you keep it slightly elevated and on a solid surface, you’ll be good with the auto fan settings. Also don’t forget to give the intakes a light brush and blow weekly (with the laptop drained and unplugged to be safe). As for issues, I’d say yes, it’s got a few compatibility issues here and there like my flight sims crashing randomly even tho it being rare. As for games like GOWR or Black Myth Wukong, it’s very stable and doesn’t crash. Yes, it is very portable, it’s almost as thin as a MacBook Pro (just 0.2cm more) and also it’s not bulky. If you want it for office work tho then I’d suggest you take a 100W GaN charger with you since it’ll last you 5 hours when you probably work for 8 hours. (Remember that it has an x86 processor and not an ARM one so it will still consume a good chunk of your battery on idle). It’s wonderful for gaming (plugged in ofc). The OLED panel makes games look so much better and even if you can’t game at 3K resolution with max graphics, 1200p looks wonderful on the 14 inch screen and couple that with a refresh rate of 120Hz and you’ve got everything you need for the perfect gaming experience. Now to the stats, It gives me a solid 60FPS in Black Myth Wukong at Maxed Graphics, RT off and DLSS Q + FG at 1200p, you might be able to sneak in a bit of RT but I keep it off since it looks good even before RT. Flight Simulator 2020 runs at 60FPS with Maxed out settings at 1200p is you turn on DLSS Q + FG however it stutters a lot due to the RAM in my model which is only 16GB. It plays Esports games like CSGO and Fortnite at 120FPS with competitive settings at 3K if you use DLSS. Black Ops 6 runs at 100FPS at 1200p with Maxed settings if you use DLSS P. On a side note, I’d suggest you get 32GB for flight sims, otherwise, you’re Good!

    This laptop really leaves me scratching my head… like it’s kinda cool but just so many tradeoffs. The G14 being lighter and having a better feature set/more performance has me wondering who this was made for. Unless you found it dirt cheap somehow I guess.

    Jarrod's Tech I need a clear answer if you can . When it comes to laptop reviews you are the best and you seems very capable at you work. I have bought recently an acer nitro 5 2023 model . Intel core i7 12650h with nvidia rtx 4060 140 w. Acer nitro 5 An515 58. The temperatures now on summer are high and the cpu reached temp 90- 100°C when gaming. I searched on TH-cam and not only how to lowerd the temps. I found a solution in the registry about ' processor performance boost ' to show up form hidden setting. From there I disabled the turbo boost for aggressive to disable. The temperature of the cpu now is sitting around 70 °C and the performance is more than ok for gaming. The maximum clock goes 2.2 GHz now never beyond that. Now since this laptop has a locked cpu and this setting was hidden in the registry is it safe to keep it that way? Does this damage the cpu or motherboard or other components in the long run ? Have a nice day !!

    this isnt the first time hp downclocked thier laptops on purpose because the laptop i have as a 1135g7 locked at 20 watts and no way to increase it even tho my temperatures are on 60 degrees at worst case load but through bios mods and a lot of struggles i managed to get it upto 40 giving me a 70% performance boost

    HP should have let the GPU take more power and created a default power profile with its current state in mind (so 90 watts base with a higher power budget at higher performance settings). Let customers choose how performant but how and loud their computer gets.
    I think this is a good first-gen product. It's not as polished as the G14, which has been steadily improved over the past few years. I have high hopes for the next generation of this laptop.

    • @aliginthahouse1
      @aliginthahouse1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      HP should have gone with AMD, the amd cpu's run perfectly at literally 9W power during gaming while the intel one needs atleast 20W to function normally and uses more around 30 while gaming. Intel is literally crippling the potential of these tiny gaming laptops, idc they came up with their new ultra line up, it's still shit as ever. if HP went hp they would have had 20W headroom to bump up that GPU to bring it at the same level as the g14. I've had the G14 with AMD and now I got the G16 with Intel and it's insane how cool the amd was and insane how quickly the intel cpu on the g16 runs up to 95 degrees of celcius and 70+ while browsing normal stuff. The amd cpu sits around 60 degrees while gaming

    I think my Acer Predator 14 that I only just bought with a 13700H and 4070 is still superior with a 105W TGP for a 14 inch laptop which was respectable and that was the model you've been after but cannot get it oddly. Not so much if yours was like 60W.

    Yeah never getting the Asus G14 though. Previous Asus laptops I've seen other users have their Plastic Meld together with the Asus G14 since the heat is so concentrated at one spot. Even looking at your stress tests the HP Omen 14 is more spread out on it's heat so it is not concentrated on one spot. Sure the HP omen transcend can have lower speeds on it's gpu, but it's worth it for it not breaking.

    Hey Jarrod, could you shed any light on the Legion Pro 7i battery drain issue, where allegedly when running at max CPU + GPU workload, the included smaller-sized 330W GaN charger simply cannot provide enough power to the laptop. Resulting in heavy battery depletion even while plugged in (up to 10% an hour) and consequently a very short battery life.

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I did not experience battery drain with our Pro 7i, only with the non pro version which had a smaller battery.

    The lowest priced Zephyrus is £2400 in the UK. I don't think the 4070 model of the HP is worth it especially because of the power handicap. I own an HP refurbished (basically brand new) ceramic white version of the Omen 14, 4060, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Core Ultra 7 model and it cost £1230. And HP have superb warranty policy and return times. 1 week. The gaming performance hit is acceptable for me, when I save this much money. The white one is gorgeous and isn't a MacBook clone like the Zephyrus.

    I was able to play with one of these at a local bestbuy. . .and the screen wobble made it feel cheap. Honestly if it didn't have that I could have seen myself getting one of these. But ended up with the 2023 G14 instead. Not as small but way more powerful. HP is on to something, but they really need to match the price and quality of the machine. It's just over priced for what it is.
