All of the sounds your hear when Teddy Riley is playing are coming from the Mini Nova.The patch he's playing was custom made on the Mini Nova and demonstrates what the unit can do. Teddy is first and foremost a skilled musician. And yet, he does have a nice selection of technology. It's little wonder that he was at the epicenter of the new jack swing sound. I would be very interested to know what DAW he uses ( if any ) during his production process

@@ASAPJermz oh no doubt. There was one that he demonstrated for which he had a specific affinity for because of the issue of workflow. But other than that, I agree. There are many great DAWs out there. I use LMMS and Ardour, myself. The rudimentary; but they both get the job done

morenaso1 I'm all across the board,...whatever the occasion calls for. Hip Hop, R&B, Contemporary Gospel, Rock, etc. No limits really. Whatever makes the head bob. :-) I call my style 'Gumbo Funk',...a mixture of this and that.
MiniNova is a stand-alone digital synthesiser that doesn't rely on a specific DAW or audio app. Should you want to control plug-in instruments in your software using MiniNova you can certainly do that as it will function as a standard MIDI controller with virtually any DAW. Just be aware, as MiniNova doesn't feature an internal audio interface, it won't transmit audio over the USB connection, so you will need to use an external audio interface, such as a Scarlett 4i4 if you want to sequence and record the MiniNova using GarageBand.

How do I make talkbox patches on this for a real talkbox? I think that would be a great demo. I think "Mark Meyer" is confused how a Talkbox works. I just want a bunch of different talkbox patches. Tedd Riley should've just designed some and threw it in with the promo video. Can you make a video please?
main oscilator is saw, then create harmonics to that first saw with a second triangle/square/saw oscilator (track mode). You can detune a bit or add noise/saturation for more armonic that help vocalization. Then feed that sound overdrived into the talkbox Play with all that parameters and tone to get the sound that best fits your mouth, playing style, music, etc
The mini nova has a lot more flexibility than the microkorg. But the microkorg has a sound that's pretty iconic in its own right. A lot depends on the goal of the sound you're aiming for. My only wish is the Mininova looked more like the Vocoders of the past, like Roland VP-330.
+Salvi Cuadrado Gómez I gotta say they look exactly like Audio-Technica ATH-M50x or the m40x the other guy said. I want to say the 50x though as theyre better quality and its T Riley after all. I use the M50x (wearing them right now) and they're def great. Totally recommend
Nice little machine, though there is just something about the sound that makes it inferior to the Alesis Micron and Korg Microkorg. Good vocoder though.

There's no true analogue character and the sound is REALLY thin recorded. YES you HAVE to run it through a real mic pre (analogue not digital). This is a def china pre and sounds terrible. I have to have the gain all the way up for the VOCODER and it's still not hot enough. Also, IT IS false advertising if you're trying to tell me that patch was a custom patch to show what the keyboard can do. Why wouldn't you give us that talkbox patch!? Let's be real here? What's up?

You have to have the gain turned all the way to even record the vocoder. I almost wish I got the Korg now because at least I know what I'm getting and they don't false advertise talk boxes and say it's just to show how good the synth is? Then why not give us the patch!? makes no sense! I feel so ripped! Teddy Riley is a straight sell out!
