I've Been Searching for the right vocoder synth. This Video Convinced Me To Buy Mininova.
Thank you for doing this. It was entertaining but very informative. I have been looking for a good vocoder through a synth or plugin. Honesty this video has absolutely convinced me to get the Mininova!
I bought one of these 4 years ago specifically for it's vocoder and keep it in the vocal booth. It's an amazing machine.
Been looking at getting a Mininova and i think this just sold it for me.
Will probably never use the vocoder but i laughed so hard at some of these.

How can you hear from your headset mic using the XLR adapter? I bought one to try to use my headset instead of the gooseneck and I'm not getting any audio through it.
There were two Mininova vocoder patches called "Aaah 1" and "Aaah 2" that I downloaded for my Ultranova and that I don't understand. They make an "aaaaah" sound, but no matter what I do with my voice it has 0 influence on the sound. But shouldn't that be the case with every Vocoder patch?

Hello! Very nice presentation :) I got few questions. Electronic music is my latest fascination. I play ew instruments and I want to start creating music by using synthesizer, laptop and maybe launchpad. Im about to buy Novation Mininova, I`ve heard that its very easy to learn.
I got some really "noobish" questions as a begginer can you reccomend any forum or webste where I can shoot questions and get good answers?

Nice vid! what's the name of the headset mic you're using?
That's actually the headset mic from a Roland VP7 Vocoder, it has an XLR, so just a basic mic really, it does come with a gooseneck mic though, but I find it easier to use the headset type

The vocoder is set to scouse by default.

Is it possible to blend the dry sound of the voice with the vocoder?
Run a splitter cable and have one dry send and the other running into the synth

got a weird question -
I have a similar setup as you (Shure headset mic) and on the NormVocTB077 preset, if I start slowly singing an increase in pitch you can hear it kick in randomly a slight pitch fix (nudges the sound up) but its otherwise a great natural sound. Is there a setting (Ive tried everything I could find in its presets.) Thanks so much if you see this and have time to test!
Is the mininova better than the ultranova?...
Do they hAve any normal settings so you can sing into a track and sound realistic
Just got one, can confirm that they kind of do but it's not going to sound completely natural

Great vids! I am buying the Mininova this week. I am adding it to my DJ setups, does the Nova have an RCA output or is it only 1/4 jack?
Plus could I play a bass guitar through the Vocoder if I had an XLR to 1/4? Would that work?

It only has 1/4 inch jacks for the outputs, but you can easily get jack to phono cables on Amazon and I can't see why you couldn't play any line level instrument through the vocoder, so that should work fine, unless your bass is active you just might have to boost the signal with a pre amp but probably not, hope this helps

I bought a used mininova and the vocoder presets are all missing. Any idea about how to restore it to factory settings?
It sounds like the previous owner may have replaced those presets with others.
You can probably restore the factory content.
I don’t have the synth anymore but I think if you download the manual from Novation there will probably be a section on how to restore the factory default settings, if that doesn’t work try contacting Novation support, details will be on their site too.
hi, is there a noticeable latency when you use the pitch wheel? if so, how many second is it? thanks.
Hi, there is zero lag on the synth, it may be that my audio/ video sync may be a few milliseconds out, but the synth is fine

+patrick starshooter .....thanks Pat. while I was researching this topic, I experimented with Ableton and I was amazed to get the result that I wanted in real-time and no lag! thus, one less equipment to worry about!

Novation support was also good which was surprising since I heard a lot of bad things about their support, they replied within a few days and gave me links to download even more content for free.

The mininova patches are available as a download. Just put them onto my Ultranova and I think they can do all the same things than on the Mininova ... or what do you mean with "autotune? If I sing a G but press the key A, my voice comes out of the speaker as A. It works on the Ultranova.

Andre Miller No, you need to plug it in to an amp or a DI, mixer or PA. Or just stereo into your DAW

Andre Miller You could but you would lose a lot of frequency range from the synth, although it would sound great for the bass sounds. also remember that the Mininova has two outputs for lesft and right so its a srero synth, you can choose the left or right channel for mono output but you will lose any stereo effect the chosen sound has

This synth is attractive. The vocoder quickly gets annoying. It seems to mainly modulate pitch. After five minutes it sounds like a multiple personality dinner party. I want to hear things like someone talking through cascading water, or singing a dirge in an icy walled canyon. Natural Born Killers soundbites get tiresome.
