I let my hair go grey starting at 40. I dyed my hair dark auburn for years. My husband hated the dyed hair look and encouraged me to grow it out and let it go grey. He had no gray hair at all so I hesitated because I didn't want to look older then him. He loves my silver hair and always complimented on how beautiful I looked. He finally has turn silver too. He looks very handsome with his silver hair.

I inherited my mother's gorgeous silver gray hair. I was tired of spending money on covering it, so I finally grew it out and let me tell you, I've NEVER had as many compliments on my hair when it was colored as when I grew it out. Don't be afraid to do just that, mature gals!

thanks Monique!! i went grey a year ago. i let the grey grow for about 2 months. I wore hats, scarf and hair bands till I had about an inch of grey, and cut the tinted hair off. Draw back: people thought that I lost my hair to chemo. some told me they will pray for me! but after 3 or 3 months my hair is now my biggest treasure! I looked in Pinterest to get ideas how to dress, colors and textures to use. it was great! now I am learning from you how to update my make-up to fit my age. tomorrow, May 23rd I will be 73. your videos, which I discovered today is a most suited present!!! i will get all decked out tomorrow, go out for a burger and a milkshake!!! ( SCOTH and club soda!! ) thanks again, Monique! stay beauty and real , just as you are!!! hugs

Have decided to take the plunge. My shoulder-length, brunette hair was last coloured 4 weeks ago. I consulted with a colourist yesterday. we've hatched a plan to make the transition... using a lighter coloured, non-permanent colour less frequently. His main message was that there is no easy way to do this and it's tough.I feel it's the right decision for me at this point.Maybe I should re-direct the money I save on hair dye and buy alcohol... lol

Monique I want to thank you for giving me the courage to go gray. It was you that totally inspired me to do it. Now after a year my white/gray hair is out and I am in love. The texture of my hair is so much better and so much healthier not to mention that I can now wash my hair with hot water and not be afraid of a color change. Thank you and know that you are absolutely beautiful and a great mentor to many of us. Women are not OK with going white. They can be so hurtful and after, when they see you succeed in your journey, rarely give you a compliment. Compliments usually comes from strangers, and to those....I am truly grateful.

Monique, I just discovered your videos by chance and I just HAVE to tell you how wonderful you are. I am in my 54th year now and I think it is high time to see more women like you in the media: strong, fit, healthy and yes, grey-haired. After my pregnancy at 40 during which I didn't dye my hair anymore, I just let my hair do what it wanted, ignoring people's good advices about how much younger I would look if I dyed my hair again. It is so much easier to face reality bit by bit, so I did it for myself. Your videos are so refreshing! Thank you and please continue representing today's 50+ generation of women.

Found your channel by accident this morning. I'm 43 & have been doing the grow-out for about a year, & have recently been thinking that I should go back to dying my hair. But this video, & your video about doing makeup for a mature woman, has given me reviewed confidence! Thank you! And good for you for not allowing your "significant other" to beat you down! You are gorgeous inside & out from what I can see! And it has made me a little more thankful for my hubby who has actually wanted me to do this for years!

Your comments and thoughts are spot on. I did the "grow-out" 10 years ago at 50 years old. Everyday was a re-examination of discovering who I was and how I felt about myself as a woman at 50 in our "culture of youth." It was really hard, but so worth it! Your observations about the critical comments from other people are sad but true. It does say more about how they feel about themselves, and that can be disappointing. Smiles and nods from other silver-haired women kept me going. Now I feel truly free and liberated from the old- fashioned stereotypes of how other people think a woman my age should look. Forget that!

Thank you for this encouraging comment Joan. I transitioned after the death of my Mother...she just wouldn't accept my gray hair. My family seems to love my gray hair now. I want it to be whiter and don't know how to get it there with a natural look. I need help! But cannot afford a hairdresser! Disabled and zero income as I await disability to finalize. Since I am home bound I guess it doesn't matter really, but I WANT IT Whiter! Bless all of my brave sisters going natural or going gray!

You do look vibrant & feminine & I love the suggestions you made. Very inspiring! I'm 62 & have coloured my hair again the last 6yrs when my girlfriends came over & decided my grey was too drab(& I agreed). Watching your video now I realise I didn't treat my grey hair with lovely products etc which I think would have helped. These days I'm being more attentive to my hair & love the improvements. Wishing you well in your career. You're delightful! Thankyou.

I just turned 50. I'm a vet with a very busy practice, plus I volunteer at a sanctuary. It's nice to see an intelligent, accomplished, mature female on YT. I've dyed my fine hair for over 20 years. The grays are really starting to populate my scalp. I've been thinking of transitioning into a silver fox. This vid was tremendously helpful. Thank you. There is a lady in my neighbourhood who actually decided to this and grow her real grey hair. And everybody told her to die again, she was so happy when i got into the shop and told her how beautifull her real grey hair was. And i said the truth! It was so shiny and beautifull that made the died part look faded and unatural. She was so happy to hear somebody encouraging her. Finally she cut off the died part and now she has this beatifull shiny white grey hair.

When I was a teenager, I saw an older woman (who is probably my age now, lol) and she had the most beautiful gray hair, and I said when I got older, that I would just let it go gray. I'm now 43, and I only have about a dozen grays, so I still have a ways to go.

It was great to feel validated by your strong, happy message.

This video is a godsend! I've just sought it out AGAIN because I was finding my resolve crumbling and I was considering dying it blonde. I tried going grey last year then thought I'd balance out the dark hair at the back of my head by doing an all over "smokey grey" permanent dye......It turned BRIGHT PURPLE 😱 The result was a No4 buzzcut to get rid of it 3 months ago!
I feel anything but pretty but I can now look in the mirror occasionally and not feel horrified at my hair. I just can't wait to get some length to it so I can style it 😄 💕

You hair is so pretty and so are you! I am 52. A few years ago I realized that I was missing part of my aging journey by covering my grey as I age and I wanted to experience it. So, just like you said, several people told me what a mistake it would be. Still, I cut it off and grew out the grey. I love it! My hair is healthy and I've been able to grow it long again because it is so healthy. I get compliments now, but it doesn't really matter. My gray makes me feel stylish and true to myself. I love how you have added such vibrant colors in jewelry, etc. yay you!

My hair grew out with streaks of grey, ( I didn't have all grey) so it looks like I highlighted with grey. My husband was supportive, along with my friends. I think you look beautiful! I hope you get a part as a permanent cast member on a tv show, and, or a major blockbuster film. Thank you for the video!

Hi Monique, I am from Sydney Australia. I have been mainly grey since 52 years of age. I became my husbands carer and found I could not afford to have it salon dyed. Shop bought didn't work.
I have come to love my hair. I get more compliments than ever before.
Like you I had my hair cut really short.
I love that I can wear all the colours I had not been able to wear with my coppery dyed locks.
I love your hair. We have have the same type of hair.
I am 72 next month in August. I love what I can wear now. Pure white is my colour. Red, navy, emerald, hot pinks and lovely bright colours give me such a lift.
You couldn't look more beautiful. I watched your videos last night including make up. Keep going.

Thank you; that video is great on so many levels. Pragmatic suggestions, personal experience, and deep well of insight. I think your perspectives are spot-on. What I appreciate most of all is your support and encouragement of other women, in the world and in the media, representing us as vital, sexy, thriving people. I started growing my silver out a couple of months ago and I'm committed to the process. I'm finding it freeing, at least so far, and it's great to know about the helpful transitional products. Thank you so much for sharing who you are with the world. I love you bunches, too!

You are such an inspiration!!! Love you for your down to earth attitude, love you for your straightforwardness also love you for getting out there for the rest of us "going through this journey ". Keep going to those auditions, get a gig and we can't wait to see you on screen! My journey was easy, I cut my hair very short and went for the grow out! Easy to do when it's short as it doesn't seem to take as long. Keep on living the dream! XO'S

Love the tips. I have got to find that silver spray and shine spray. I'm right there on that significant other and friends/family opinions. I started telling them that they are responsible for every grey I have and I've survived so far. That makes me a strong woman. A my ear worm song of the day came when you put on the beret. I started singing "Raspberry Beret". Thanks again and have a blessed day.

I love that you shared all of this with us "almost ready to embrace out silver" women! I have a friend who, when she first saw some grey in her hair, started to use a soft, graphite art pencil on her eyebrows (Easy peasy in the morning, light or dark, no problem) and she's never gone back. You might want to experiment with this for the eyebrow question. I LOVE your sassy style and your powerful persona - Brava!

Wish I had bleached it at the start, but I doubt my fragile curls would have withstood it. 18 months to grow out long hair, but glad I did after 30 years of coloring! Products for brassiness will help me feel better about it. But boy, the changes for clothes, makeup and hair!! Goodbye brown and cream, but white has been indeed a surprise...

Yes, I'm doing the 'grow out' and it is difficult and yes, I do get comments - "You need your color!" Haha! My hair is very thin and fine, similar texture to yours. I don't have the courage to go short as you did. I feel determined to go the distance. Thank you for being so supportive and Gorgeous in Gray!

Thank you so much Monique! When I first watched your videos (Jan this year) seeing your beauty with your gray hair made me think of it for the first time: up until then, it was not even an option! I'm 47 years old and people keep telling me I look 10 years younger, so I couldn't even think of going gray. But... without the dye, I'm probably 90% white and I'm tired of dyeing my hair. Also, you made me realize there is still a life after going gray, and when I look at you, aging looks quite amazing! So after watching your videos and spending hours at collecting gray hair pictures on Pinterest (couldn't find a picture of you there, why??) I've decided to take the plunge and start this journey. Thank you for being such an inspiration!

I am absolutely thrilled that I came across this video! I have been letting my grey hair grow out, not really by choice but just because I haven't had time or the energy to keep up the color. I enjoy doing my own color, have been doing it myself for years with the advice & guidance of my hair professional sister (of 30 years). My natural color is a ashy, dirty blonde and now have white w/silver around my face with darker tones from the ear back just as you described. I started shaving the right side and the shimmer shows even more there! I get a lot of compliments on the silver like its a dye or something I did on purpose, HA! I like pink so I've tried several tones with Rose Quartz the latest, on the ends. It washes out too soon, however. I was going to bleach the darker roots, about 3 inches, this weekend to get the color to grab on and stay longer, but after your video I am inspired to continue to grow it out and just keep color on the ends. I may try a wig since here in south Louisiana the humidity kills even my best styling once I walk out the door (watching that video next). Loved your "Drab to Fab-Glamour" video too. Enjoy your classy yet relaxed manner plus your words of inspiration in your videos. I just turned 45 this year and trying to embrace my age glamorously, if not gracefully.

It took me 18 months to grow my natural color out. My colorist helped me make the transition, she used a platinum to highlight some areas. I love my gray hair. I had no idea how attractive it would be. I do use different products to keep the color bright. I have been more willing to use different make up.
I have noticed that dry shampoo gives me more body and brightens the gray.
BTW my 85 year old mother was not happy when I told her I was going grey, I think she's having a difficult time having an over 60 year old child.
I've gotten a lot of compliments from a lot of people, especially young women.

My 92 year old mother hates my grey. She is still dying her beautiful curly hair but it is going so thin. Maybe that was gonna happen anyway. I'm 67 and it's still very black at the back and grey on top. I'll keep on trucking but.. don't know how long I can take the little snide remarks..from rude people.

@@francesmallon6979 When you get "snide remarks from rude people," it is about them, not you! You "keep on truckin," keep on owning it, you do you. It is your life! What a grand sense of entitlement it is to make rude snide comments about how someone else lives their life. Get those people out of your life! Do not allow them to project their insecurities onto you. You stay beautiful ( because you are!) Do not let the crabs pull you back into the bucket. Rise above. Don't let them tell you. You tell them. Or...you could lower to their level and say "Well, I like the way I look, but it must suck to be you!" Lol
