    Having a milestone birthday this year. I've been coloring my hair since I started graying at 27. I've been toying with the idea of going white for 10 years but knew my husband did not want me to. You have inspired me. After my last hair appointment I told my stylist 6 weeks from now it will be a cut only. Thank you Nikol. My mothers hair was the beautiful white and I believe mine will be too. :)

    I have gone through the silver journey over 2 years ago. It was hard used lots of powders and sprays to help hide the demarcation. Then I cut my hair in a pixie to cut off all the dyed color. I can tell you that I get more positive comments with my salt & pepper hair then I ever did with my dyed hair! Ladies it's liberating!

    • @littleme3597
      @littleme3597 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Excellent! Most of us can tell, who dyes their hair. Not a secret. I especially hate the black hair dye on older faces and that white area on top..that grows out! Then the phony red. Who ever started that? Henna/burgandy. Natural anything is so much better! The real thing.

      @@littleme3597 Not everybody looks good with gray! Yes it's a fact of life, we will all grow gray but I'm not jumping on the gray train just because it's having a moment. SOME people look good in gray and some people (like me) do not and will not look good with gray. Gray looks awesome on Nikol, but it looks weird dreary bland on many others, so look at women who look Great in Gray and see if you kind of "look" a little like them, i.e., complexion, bone structure, brows, a silver tone looks much better than the gray/ blonde look (which is iffy on a lot of women) IMO, IMO of course.

      I know exactly how you feel. I started my transition 18 months ago. I had very long hair and after 6 months I cut it into a bob. At 11 months I couldn't take it anymore, so I bit the bullet and had it cut very short. Now I'm just waiting for it to grow longer. I live in a small town and have had no positive comments. Most of my family doesn't even approve of it, however they live far away. So who cares what other people think? The funniest thing is that is when I run into someone that I haven't seen for quite some time, that they have absolutely no idea who I am. I had fun with this. ;) The sad thing is that it made me realize that they only defined me by my hair.

    • @ew4932
      @ew4932 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@t.s.5206 This isn't just about having a "moment". It's about embracing the real you. My own sister made up excuses why she wouldn't do it. She finally said that she wasn't ready to be a gray woman yet. She thinks that she will look old. Mind you she is only 16 months younger than I am, and has an 8-year-old son. I suppose that everyone needs their own time to make the decision. Gray hair can look good on anyone. You just need a good styled cut, change your makeup and wardrobe colors a bit.

It is an incredibly long journey and I just want it to be OVER! After watching you I want to cut my hair, after having just grown it out, and know it will grow back as it did before! Your hair and your whole look is fantastic! I grew mine out last year, and while I have since dyed it copper red, I was so grateful and so happy to have taken a year of not having any chemical color on my hair. And now I know that I can do it again any time I want. Your earlier, transitional video really inspired me at the time, and if I ever grow out my silver again, I’ll be back to see how you’re doing. Thanks, Nikol!

    I’m 28 and started going gray a few years ago. The last year it has flourished the most, I’ve decided to let it grow out and it’s been almost a year now of natural hair! Everyone is so surprised at how young I am with gray hair but they usually love it! I have noticed by letting it grow, it is easier to manage. One issue I had is that it would kink up from being such a different texture when it started growing out but now that it’s longer, it’s so much more manageable. Cheers to embracing a natural process!

      I'm in this stage of transitioning, I'm tired of bleaching and color correcting. I'd rather be gray than bald. My last visit to the salon was a mix of emotions, walked in and told my stylist to do a pixie cut. She looked puzzled and confused at me and asked me if I was ok. At the moment I'm rocking a pixie and I'm loving it.

    What a great video. I've been going gray since I was 14, but I just turned 36 and its really filling out and I started changing the way I look at myself. I've never not liked it, never tried to dye it, but getting older, hearing some negative comments, even though I get a lot of good ones, they start to eat away at the confidence. This was really uplifting, thank you. Also, had a similar reaction to cutting my hair into a pixie as well, they all were in awe of their misjudgment!

    You are the first person to say what I believe about hateful comments. What they say is more a reflection of them than the one being criticized. My family has people who go grey early (even in their twenties). I made a decision that I would let my hair go grey whenever it did. When I married I told my husband and he was all for it. I think looking frumpy and older has more to do with not having style than with hair color.💕

    I'm 5 months in my transition. Thinking about documenting it. I'm watching this video because the holidays are coming up. I'm nervous about it but I think I can get through it. You're beautiful Nikol, I LOVE your hair!

    Thank you for this! Today I had the last of my "fake color" cut off. It was so liberating and I am loving the new shorter silver look.

    Nikol, Thank you for taking your time to have this kind of conversation that helps women to go to the transition with more knowledge. Let me tell you I wish I should have started earlier leaving my grays out. Is fashionable but most of all my hair looks fuller and healthier.

    I've been silver since I was 17, and I've loved it since the beginning. Everyone, including my mother who went grey around the same age, have told me for years to dye it and hide it because it "ages you". I've never understood what the problem with aging was and refused.

    You look SO beautiful! I am so tired of dying my hair every 4 weeks and it doesn’t last. I’m about to turn 53 and not only is it so expensive but it doesn’t last. I want to look beautiful just the way I am. I have a lot of gray and you can’t keep up with the gray race! Lol. I am definitely going to think about it and you give me courage!❤️

    Congratulations to finding your truth. I understand it all to well. I am 62 years old and I have done all of what you mention in your video. The only thing I was missing was letting my grey grow out and thanks to your honesty I have started doing it as of almost 3 months ago.

    Thank you Nikol, just discovered your channel, good stuff. My husband has been trying to get me to stop coloring and go natural, and have been transitioning over the last 6 months. It’s hard to let go of the dark color because of the stark contrast, but your videos help me stay on track and not cave and color it!

    I’m 32 and have decided to stop coloring hair and let my grays shine. My 82 year old grandmother, and all my maternal aunts dye their hair and they’re legitimately shocked that I’m embracing my beautiful hair. I actually get excited as more grays come in.

    I dyed my hair back in grad school and it was one of those home jobs. As I was rinsing it out, all I could think about was all the other people doing the same thing. All that hair dye going down the drain. It sorta freaked me out and I never did it again. Now for the last 7ish years the grey is coming in and is coming in slowly. I think it's pretty cool. Thanks for the video, you look amazing!!

    I just watched this a second time. Nikol you are so uplifting and inspiring. Thank you. I'm 57 years old and 4 months into my transition. I thought that I would have more gray/silver hair than I do. Most of my grays are on top of my head with not that much around my face or underneath. I'm S&P with mostly pepper but you know what...I love it. This way I'll get to see myself with my natural S&P and then watch myself grow gray gradually. I'm mostly loving this journey but do have occasional days of "omg my hair looks a wreck". Luckily my husband and children are supportive.

    I'm like you .. I just got tired of fighting the roots all the time and decided to let it go... I really had a hard time until it was long enough to cut off.. but when I got that last bit of color cut off it felt so good... I'm so glad I done it... I have a lot of compliments on my gray...

    When I first saw you on You Tube, I thought (about your hair and you, specifically)”My! Nikon is artistic! Look at her hair on its own! The way the white contrasts against the coal black! She’s an artist!” That was my very first, flash impression of you, Nikol. And as I followed you and learned more about you as a person, I found that you were a makeup artist, a model, etc., etc. And I was inspired to know more about you just because of your hair. By the way, you have inspired me to grow out my dyed hair and I am so excited at the mere aspect of doing this! Thanks Nikol and all the best to you!

    You are a beautiful young woman. Thanks for sharing some tips! I went to a new stylist because I am going to try to go silver white again. Last time, I gave up and went and had it foiled.. low lights. I went to the stylist with several suggestions like the possibility of putting lowlights in the back because I thought I had a very obvious line of demarcation. Well, she laughed at me and wanted to know what my issue was? Lol! She told me to just let it keep growing because the front was looking wonderful and the back wasn’t what I was seeing. I had a good trim and left, our plan is to keep getting it trimmed about every 6 weeks and just let it grow out. All of this to say, I think that we are our worse critics. I do teach online everyday and don’t want to scare my students; therefore, I want my hair to look decent. And, honestly, I am fighting the aging process! I’m 61 and this baby boomer is going down fighting! Haha! Also, I watched the make over you did on your mom... loved your interaction! Really precious.
