      Spent lots of time there since childhood...mostly with my family shopping for groceries and beef/tortillas/produce and we had a jeweler there too... Later as a young adult I also shopped in TJ for groceries and also we spent fun times there having dinner and going to Jai Ali games...

      I’m 60 years old now but when I was about 10, I took a picture on a zonkey! Now I need to go dig it up! My parents would take trips twice a month back in the 70s, we would buy a lot of products that were not available in California. We lived about two hours away from the border. I miss those days. Thank you for the wonderful reminders and video and especially for your kind hearts.❤ God bless you!

    Great video. Thank you for not leaving out the reality of danger. I think that the danger aspect is what makes people reluctant to visit Mexico; but you shared how best to avoid danger not only in Mexico, but in “all parts of the world.”. You definitely touched on the reality of nice and sincere people that do exist in Mexico, along with the nice parts of the city that deserve to be appreciated.

    I'm so glad you guys got to see Friendship Park. Yes, it is everything you described and felt, and so much more. From the south, the culture pounds on the wall. From the north, no one stands in awe. Close your eyes, the boundary disappears. The food, the music, the culture, is so near.

    Love you guys. We followed in your footsteps in Los Cabos and La Paz. We went in October 2021 and April 2022 by plane, but rented a vehicle to explore. Our bucket list has a road trip from Toronto to TJ and then south from there to everywhere in between. Your videos are so inspiring and you are both kind souls with a love of life and travel. You had me tearing up at the end, I can totally understand the emotions you must have been feeling at the wall. Mexico is so beautiful, the people, the food and its raw nature. You guys sharing your journey through this beautiful country with the you tube community is a blessing. Thank you, thank you!!!

    The first time I went to Playas Tijuana (2018) the wall was slightly less militarized and there was a small hole in it on the beach. There was a Mexican family walking near it. They had a little boy about 4 or 5 years old who suddenly ran from the family, through the hole and to the other side when he stood waving back at them for a few moments. The family laughed and then yelled out at him to come back and he darted back to them. After that I walked down the beach for about an hour with tears in my eyes. That small moment in time gave me a lot to think about. The wall at Playas Tijuana is a surreal experience and one that has never left me. Thank you for sharing about this often overlooked corner of the city.

    I have been looking forward to your visit to TJ. I'm from San Diego(Ocean Beach)and started going to TJ in the 50's with my Dad. He had friends with Green Cards that worked construction in San Diego. So for many years TJ was my go to place Intel the 70's when I left SD. I do visit TJ when I go to SD to visit my Mom. The last time was in 2010 and things had changed so much, I took the Trolley down and easily crossed for a great day spending time in all the places I went as a kid. Getting back took 2 hours. I will be heading down to Mexico for I hope 180 days starting in TJ to Puebla and finishing in TJ. Think you for you great videos, you have helped me plan my travels. Thank you for making this video. I moved from California to Tijuana 5 years ago and I love this city. So much so that I consider this my home. Unfortunately, Zona Norte has remained the "party zone" but it's essentially a red light district. In my opinion, this is not Tijuana and it's unfortunate that it's so close to the border and that the majority of tourists see this first. Tijuana also has been dragged down by the border policies on the other side but it's a city that is booming on all aspects. Another side of town is Zona Rio which offers the best restaurants in town in my opinion. Hipódromo also has a lot to offer so I hope you both come down here again!

    This is the very best video about getting to know the real Tijuana. I'm so proud pf you for sharing with us the many sadnesses of the border fence. US Immigration and Border Patrol closed Friendship Park three years ago. It was heartbreaking to witness. One of the coolest things that we used do there was Binational Yoga. Half the class was in Mexico, the other half in Friendship park, on the US side. It was really hard to not cry at the sight of good people divided by a huge hulking fence. Also, every Sunday a priest said Mass in Friendship Park, and he served communion THROUGH the fence to the grateful hands of the Tijuana congregation. I thought about the true meaning of christianity and compassion, and this was so beautiful to witness. A priest on the Tijuana side of the fence gave communion to congregants on the US side of the border. At Christmas, we'd hold a binational Christmas Posada or ceremonial walk, half the people in Mexico and half on the US side. We all carried candles and you can only imagine how moving this was. Thanks for your great work and the gifts of yourselves.

    The end of your video about the wall and how that park is closed....it just made me get a knot in my throat....being an immigrant from Mexico in the US for 27 years......Why did humans create borders? The land should be free for us to go anywhere we wanted to, but no, we had to create borders, separation, etc.....have you guys watched "La Belle verte"? It's a beautiful movie about people from another planet with a higher level of consciousness. I know the movie was banned in many countries (apparently because the elite does not want us to be awake) but it's a great movie and I just happened to remember it thinking about the border........I am not sure how to find it because the only link i have is on Facebook and it's only subtitled in Spanish but I think you guys would love to watch it on your down times.....saludos!

    I Remember when Anthony Bourdain visited Tijuana traveling all the way to Ensenada through the amazing scenic route ovelooking the ocean, exploring on the way the rich and diverse food, great hiden gems from fine cuissime to the local taco stands. Tijuana is also apealing for its great inexpensive medical tourism. The inmense Lincoln monument in the city, rivaling the omes in D.C. would have given you goosebumps of pride, made by a Mexican sculptor and donated by then president Reagan when he viited the city. Don't miss the beatiful and classy Valle de Guadalupe with world class, trendy restaurants and wineries, Encanto restaurant, Puerto Nuevo, the city of Ensenada and la bufadora..uff, so much to explore!!

    Hi guys I’ve spoken to you before. Happy birthday Adam. I absolutely love Tijuana . I’m originally from New York City, but moved to San Diego 8 1/2 years ago with my husband and two boys. We have gone down to Tijuana for the day many times. Sometimes we’ve gone to Volunteer in an orphanage and other times, we have gone down to eat, shop and check out the sights. I would say the food seen rivals any world class city. They don’t just have Mexican food they have a whole host of different types of food that are done so well. There are chefs that are creative and daring. they have some wonderful fusion restaurants. I miss going down there. We park our car on the San Diego side and just walk across. However coming back in takes hours and hubby wants to wait till we can get a global sentri pass I forget what it’s called.. This allows for a quicker border crossing. Wishing you happy holidays. By the way where do you spend holidays do you stay in Mexico or do you go home and then come back?

    • @TheCountryCollectors
      @TheCountryCollectors  ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ve only been there once. We drove down from LA and explored the less touristy areas and ate such delicious food. Chirimoya is sooo good when you get them just perfectly ripe (but really expensive in the states). In Chile you pour fresh squeezed orange juice over them and eat them like that 😋

    • @TheCountryCollectors
      @TheCountryCollectors  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ooo wow what do they taste like? I’m going to have to try them!

    • @littlesita9452
      @littlesita9452 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheCountryCollectorsTo me, it’s like a mixture of pineapple and banana with a hint of kiwi and a kind of custardy texture. You have them right when they’re ripe though. I would have someone pick one out for you. 🤤
      P.S. Got choked up too when you were talking about the wall. 🥺 It’s heartbreaking, and I feel it even more intensely now as I spend more time exploring beautiful Mexico. I just got excited about the chirimoya and commented before finishing the video 😅
