I did allergy desensitization shots when I was in my teens. Two shots a week for the first year, one shot a week for the next two years, and then two shots a month for another two years. Mine were more environmental, I used to have days when I went through multiple boxes of tissues and that would go on for days. That was 40 years ago, now I might have a bad day two or three times a year and some minor issues for a few hours once or twice per month, but that's without taking any daily medication. Huge improvement!
I did this too. I did 2 separate courses of allergy shots, the first started when I was 9 and the second started when I was 23 or 24. When I was a kid, I often forgot my allergy medication, so we hardly ever were able to go to the next stage of shot spacing because I'd have a huge swollen spot around the injection site. For most of the 4-year course, I was on one to two times per week injections. 😂 It really helped though for about 10 years. I also was getting sick a lot less often, because my pattern is to have an allergy flare up and then while my immune system is compromised, I'll pick up a cold and then be sick for a month with an asthma flare, especially since people don't think twice about coming to work, church, or parties when they "just have a cold" and forget that people like me stay sick for weeks. When I was a little kid before the first course of shots, I got hospitalized for asthma flares due to having a cold or allergy flare up several times. One of my earliest memories is waking up to the hospital bed full of blood because I accidentally pulled the IV out when I rolled over. So, yeah, controlling the allergies really really helped my health. Then I was waking myself up rubbing my eyelids so hard that they would tear. It was really miserable. Went back to the allergist and had to do a second for your course of immunotherapy. This time I was much better about remembering my medication, so we were able to pretty much do it on schedule with the gradually increasing intervals. Now it's been almost 10 years since I finished, and I do see the effects wearing off somewhat. Hopefully I will get reasonable relief still for a while because I don't have that insurance that covered it anymore.
When I was a teacher a few years ago, I had a student who was seriously allergic to so many common food things - all nuts, wheat, milk, eggs, rice, bananas, and other things I don't remember at the moment. His allergies were 0-to-anaphalyxis in under 5 minutes. Learning about how much stuff contains *wheat* was mindboggling. I have so many kids in my neighborhood who have teal pumpkins as well - it's huge for kiddos to be able to participate in a way that's safe for them, as I'm sure Runkle appreciates.

I hate when food orders get delayed a few minutes at a time and then are canceled an hour after it is supposed to arrive so you are super hungry. This is why I don't do uber eats or grubhub or other doordash like things anymore.
I had it once where the order was never cancelled. I had to contact the company and finally got to talk to someone via phone call. The store had closed and the chat person kept saying to wait and i had to keep telling them the store had closed, their posted open hours had passed 2 hours ago, i cant get my order because the store is closed, just want to cancel it instead of it being active and get a refund. Took hours, and i ended up scrounging up whatever i could find at home in the meantime cos i was hungry

She isn't regularly a prosecutor but she managed to make prosecutors loom bad with her illegal methods of trying to convict Baldwin, even though I think they would have had a chance with just the evidence against him. Meanwhile Owen's is stuck in the 1900s saying that women (the girls) can't hurt men, and therefore he had to have been the aggressor every time and scared her with his little fingers out of that suitcase. Bother Kari and Owen's owe the victims' family's apologies
One Halloween my mum had been busy before and didn't manage to buy candy in time. She still wanted the kids to get something when they got to her house, so she handed out pickles, small containers of Sauerkraut or grilled sausages and other "finger food" if they wanted to. Funnily enough, there were lots of children (and parents :D) that really liked the more savory surprise.

And no that is not an easy lawsuit to win, yes he will win it and yes he deserves to win and get his money from the state. Then you will really be pissed off at kari morrissey. If there is any justice in this country she's "gonna be shining [Alec's] shoes... [Then hanging with] a bunch of losers sittin' around in a bar, [saying], 'Oh yeah, I used to be a LAWYER. I had no idea about that teal light project, but I completely agree with that sentiment! I gave out rubber duckies and other small toys this year, and have done other non-edible things in the years prior. With my own list of strange allergies that have come out as I grew up, and growing up with this sweet diabetic kid my peer group who couldn't eat any of his Halloween candy, making sure the kids with dietary limits still get something fun they can keep is super important to me now that I'm on the giving side of Halloween. I respect the heck out of people trying to make this a reacognized thing, hats off, and thank you for talking about it Runkle! Ps, so happy for you that you were able to get better from some of thise allergies, that's amazing! 🎉
I've seen a Motion for Reconsideration granted when the court's original order (drafted by the prosecution) provided so little explanation of the reason for the decision that the original order was unappealable. The court then issued another order with the same conclusion but with reasoning clearly explained.

Funny, I just quoted the snake must hiss in a TH-cam comment this afternoon and here's more Baldwin stuff. I remember in 5th grade going to the allergist and her saying ok, your allergic to these things and cats. She actually expected my mother to say immediately that we'd get rid of my cat. I was lucky obviously that it wasn't so bad that had to happen, the cat couldn't be in my room at night so I wasn't breathing in her dander all night, but after about 6 years of meds and the advent of Claritin, I was able to have my cat in my room at night. We moved California and the first night in our new house, Tico who'd been sleeping on my parents bed at night for 7 years, got on my bed and went to sleep. She decided it was time and she was right. Still a little allergic. But I'm so glad I took the chance to fight it, can't imagine life without my cats.

Some older children still want to go trick or treating, and as long as they are respectful and well-behaved, and we shouldn't be rushing our kids to grow up anymore than they already are. Long story short, you don't know who has shown up at your door, and what you say can really matter. From the mom of a unique and wonderful child, please be kind, understanding, and help add to the fun.

Growing up my mom & I never gave out candy on Halloween, mostly because she owned a dental studio and didn’t need more business🤣. However, she quickly learned that many of my friends had food allergies and they loved coming to our house to trick or treat. We used to tie dye pencils, shirts, book covers etc and it was a neighborhood favorite ‼️🫶🏼
I'm not allergic to cats but I am allergic to dogs. Still have one though because I love animals! My brother had allergy shots when he was a kid because he was more allergic to all kinds of things than I was at the time. Now that I'm older, turns out I was compensating for a lot of my allergies and now I notice issues with them more now. I am allergic to 14 different foods, which sucks a lot. At least most of them were foods that I thought were disgusting anyway. The one that makes me the saddest is being allergic to wheat because it's in everything.

Dude, I had horrible allergies growing up, I had a scratch test at age 24, which caused me to go into anaphylaxis (I was allergic to planet earth, every mold/tree/pollen, cats, dogs, etc), I had to be microdosed on allergy shots(full dosing caused anaphylaxis), four shots, three times a week, for four years and sit in the office for an hour and a half after every shot. I had to carry an epi pen to mow the lawn and had to use it like four or five times.
I used to buy pencils with designs printed on them (Halloween themes, superheroes, Barbie, hearts, stars, flags, etc) and had them out with candy. Hubby made fun of me every year, but kids ALWAYS wanted a pencil.
I have an anaphylactic allergy to peanuts that my parents didn’t take seriously and i later in life I developed an allergy to all preservatives which boils down to unless I can pull it off the plant myself or it’s an untouched cut of meat (with a bunch of exceptions because of the chemicals they spray on the plants or feed to the animals) so I understand the allergy thing not as bad as you I feel

Because the system is so heavily weighted towards not dismissing things even when there are issues, Morrissey was arrogant in her defense of the motion. She couldn't even fathom it as a possibility, especially at trial. What a maroon
My wife use to be allergic to onion, garlic, capsicum and various spices. Anaphylactic reactions. Sometimes walking through a food court would turn her beet red. For the first few years I was together I wouldn't have takeaway and gave up all those foods and all takeaway except when we were apart for more than a couple of days. Otherwise kissing her might stop her breathing. We stopped trusting all restaurants and take away because every couple of months someone would get it wrong and send her to the hospital. We drank out of cans at our wedding reception. Her pregnancies changed all of that. She was tested about 3 years after our second child and no longer was having anaphylactic reactions. She can tolerate small amounts of the foods she was allergic with but they still give her heart burn for a couple of days if she eats them by accident.
For anyone with allergic kiddos who’s nervous about trick or treating: my mom would get a bunch of candy and snacks I could eat (peanut allergy) and then let me swap the peanut stuff for those - that way I still had the same amount of treats that I’d gotten and I didn’t miss out on anything.
My mum would do something similar. There were a couple houses that INSISTED on giving out those banana flavoured foam candies (circus peanuts i think??) or those fruit flavoured candies that included banana. Since banana would kill me, she'd have me refuse the candy, and would always buy a small container of extra treats she knew I loved so I didn't come away with less. Now as an adult (still living at home for various reasons), she and I buy multiple kinds of candy. Some chocolatey stuff (nut free), some fruity style candies, (starbursts, gummy candies, etc) and then for kids too little to eat any of those, cheese puffs. I'm actually hoping to get somewhere and get some sugar free candy, in case of diabetic kids. A friend of mine as a kid had type 1 diabetes, and halloween for her SUCKED. She couldn't enjoy most of her candies without feeling sick.
I wish more people would do the teal lights in Sylvan Lake. I have a kiddo with DS who can't eat milk protein, gluten, or soy. I used to do the same thing as your mom. This year I went and bought bags of candy he can actually eat. It's especially hard on kiddos who don't understand like my kiddo.

There’s a slight difference between statutory deadlines and court rule deadlines. The former are absolute. A court does not have jurisdiction to entertain a delay. Court rule deadlines have some wiggle room. I recall an Alaska case where a reply was filed two minutes late. The filer did not point that out. Several YEARS later, someone noticed the error. The judge ordered the reply unacceptable, and the filer’s opponent’s motion was granted. The judge also noted that if the filer had IMMEDIATELY moved for a two-minute extension, the delay would likely been granted.
Runkle quotes were flying in the live streams today. "Nap time isn't a defense" is one of the most hilarious commentaries i have ever heard.

That's what confuses me as well? Maybe because she was brought in as a special prosecutor, she wants to take it as far as she can? The Baldwin trial would've been a name-making case after all.

Oh, I feel you on the allergies. It wasn't quite so bad for me but being seriously allergic to chocolate as a kid really sucks. Thankfully Halloween isn't a thing where I'm from but Christmas and Easter was sad 😭
Runkle, I had a teacher in high school that if it was late, it was zero. Failing to hand something in got you negative marks. Ask me why I needed go get at least 80% on that final in order to graduate.
Growing up my mom & I never gave out candy on Halloween, mostly because she owned a dental studio and didn’t need more business🤣. However, she quickly learned that many of my friends had food allergies and they loved coming to our house to trick or treat. We used to tie dye pencils, shirts, book covers etc and it was a neighborhood favorite ‼️🫶🏼
The dentist in our neighborhood gave out toothbrushes and paste....that was in the 1960's

I'm not allergic to cats but I am allergic to dogs. Still have one though because I love animals! My brother had allergy shots when he was a kid because he was more allergic to all kinds of things than I was at the time. Now that I'm older, turns out I was compensating for a lot of my allergies and now I notice issues with them more now. I am allergic to 14 different foods, which sucks a lot. At least most of them were foods that I thought were disgusting anyway. The one that makes me the saddest is being allergic to wheat because it's in everything.

Dude, I had horrible allergies growing up, I had a scratch test at age 24, which caused me to go into anaphylaxis (I was allergic to planet earth, every mold/tree/pollen, cats, dogs, etc), I had to be microdosed on allergy shots(full dosing caused anaphylaxis), four shots, three times a week, for four years and sit in the office for an hour and a half after every shot. I had to carry an epi pen to mow the lawn and had to use it like four or five times.

I used to buy pencils with designs printed on them (Halloween themes, superheroes, Barbie, hearts, stars, flags, etc) and had them out with candy. Hubby made fun of me every year, but kids ALWAYS wanted a pencil.
I have an anaphylactic allergy to peanuts that my parents didn’t take seriously and i later in life I developed an allergy to all preservatives which boils down to unless I can pull it off the plant myself or it’s an untouched cut of meat (with a bunch of exceptions because of the chemicals they spray on the plants or feed to the animals) so I understand the allergy thing not as bad as you I feel

Because the system is so heavily weighted towards not dismissing things even when there are issues, Morrissey was arrogant in her defense of the motion. She couldn't even fathom it as a possibility, especially at trial.

My wife use to be allergic to onion, garlic, capsicum and various spices. Anaphylactic reactions. Sometimes walking through a food court would turn her beet red. For the first few years I was together I wouldn't have takeaway and gave up all those foods and all takeaway except when we were apart for more than a couple of days. Otherwise kissing her might stop her breathing. We stopped trusting all restaurants and take away because every couple of months someone would get it wrong and send her to the hospital. We drank out of cans at our wedding reception. Her pregnancies changed all of that. She was tested about 3 years after our second child and no longer was having anaphylactic reactions. She can tolerate small amounts of the foods she was allergic with but they still give her heart burn for a couple of days if she eats them by accident.

For anyone with allergic kiddos who’s nervous about trick or treating: my mom would get a bunch of candy and snacks I could eat (peanut allergy) and then let me swap the peanut stuff for those - that way I still had the same amount of treats that I’d gotten and I didn’t miss out on anything.
My mum would do something similar. There were a couple houses that INSISTED on giving out those banana flavoured foam candies (circus peanuts i think??) or those fruit flavoured candies that included banana. Since banana would kill me, she'd have me refuse the candy, and would always buy a small container of extra treats she knew I loved so I didn't come away with less.
Now as an adult (still living at home for various reasons), she and I buy multiple kinds of candy. Some chocolatey stuff (nut free), some fruity style candies, (starbursts, gummy candies, etc) and then for kids too little to eat any of those, cheese puffs. I'm actually hoping to get somewhere and get some sugar free candy, in case of diabetic kids. A friend of mine as a kid had type 1 diabetes, and halloween for her SUCKED. She couldn't enjoy most of her candies without feeling sick.
I wish more people would do the teal lights in Sylvan Lake. I have a kiddo with DS who can't eat milk protein, gluten, or soy. I used to do the same thing as your mom. This year I went and bought bags of candy he can actually eat. It's especially hard on kiddos who don't understand like my kiddo.

There’s a slight difference between statutory deadlines and court rule deadlines.
The former are absolute. A court does not have jurisdiction to entertain a delay.
Court rule deadlines have some wiggle room. I recall an Alaska case where a reply was filed two minutes late. The filer did not point that out. Several YEARS later, someone noticed the error. The judge ordered the reply unacceptable, and the filer’s opponent’s motion was granted. The judge also noted that if the filer had IMMEDIATELY moved for a two-minute extension, the delay would likely been granted.
