It's the anti-video game. A boring, meaningless marathon of cheap stimulation with a skin mask of your favorite things that you've already seen millions of times. All the effort only serves to guide you to a store for you to put more money into a facade that pretends to care about you. It's literally the Happy Box from Mother 3.
Especially with deadshot. Are we supposed to believe that there was an imposter deadshot running around for a decade and Batman never mentions it either out loud or in his notes?
The UI reminds me of two things: 1) The type of UI a bunch of complete amateurs might make, either as a hobby project or as a minor element in a movie background. 2) That bit from Ready Player One where the bad guy talks about how much of the screen real estate they can use before inducing seizures.
The worst part is that WB Games also released Hogwarts Legacy, the highest-selling game of 2023 (even beating that year's Call of Duty), and they still somehow learned the wrong lesson from SS:KTJL and are doubling down on cheap-to-make, heavily monetized live-service games.
Agreed. Even with all the controversy with Rowling (which is a whole can of worms is all I’ll say), it still sold insanely well. Same with Baldur’s Gate 3. Both sold insanely well. WB is taking away the wrong lesson
I'll give you a worse reality: It's not SS:KTJL that gave them the wrong lesson, it was Helldivers 2, they saw the game go viral and now more than ever they want a slice of that success.
They way corporations think, they are probably just blaming the IP for their failure and not their "games as a service" model. So instead of continuing making single player games like Hogwart's Legacy, turn them into a live-service game until one turns a profit.
The business model with live service games is put out 20 and hope 1 sticks, that 1 will make up the losses of all the others. It's like a corporate game of chicken with bankruptcy
@EXiLExJD I'm not sure if this is sarcasm, but yeah, I WILL laugh at and avoid soulless live service slob (unless it's Deep Rock Galactic, the only good, moral and ethical live service)
sometime stuff like that make me hate No Man's Sky, because of the game able to revive after all the backlash that many people cling to that excuse for a broken game
I swear this game looks like the video game equivalent of something a casino would have. Brightly colored explosions and flashing surfaces everywhere, particle effects, numbers going up and taking up more screen space as they get bigger. Bars filling up, constant changes everywhere in general. All to overload your brain and distract you that you wasted your money on that shit. Well I guess it's on theme with it being live service I give them that.
Nah mediocrity is the best way to describe it. There's fun to be had, but it doesnt grab like a live service should, and there are many fatal flaws amongst the story, visual clarity, buildcrafting, activities, and so on.

And it won't be playable 5 years from now because it's entirely online and they'll shut down the servers when there's nobody left to play. Truly the future of the game industry, those narrative driven solo game have no chance.
On some level i could have seen this becoming a good sales game, a game where you and your mates play when its heavily discounted, but its connection to the arkham verse and the disrespect that it does to those games basically makes that imppsoible
I think this should have been a Wonder Woman game instead. It would be far more interesting to see Diana struggle with the fact she has to stop & probably kill the same people she called friends , family. The people who built something great in order to protect the innocent sadly now gone. It makes sense matchup wise for her to be able to fight the league. Then after the end maybe Diana is the leader of a new league.
I heard a similar idea somewhere else where Batman was the only one not controlled, so he had to use his contingencies to free his friends. That would’ve been a really cool game, figuring out how to subdue the Justice League and fight with your brain.
Wasn't this meant to tie in/capitalize off of the better Suicune Squad movie tho? Since it did so well? I think the idea of playing as the Suicune Squad is really cool, the idea of them killing the Justice League is cool, but there was no way they could execute it without seeming ridiculous...like someone said about the first SS movie, it's ridiculous to expect this group to defeat world ending threats, they weren't created to do that, keep it smaller in scope. Plus yknow all the other issues with the game. I do like the idea of one member of the JL going against their family and friends but personally wouldn't want to play that...kinda too dark for my tastes but definitely a better story idea then this.
Just started, and you've already made me realize how dissonant all it is. "Easy anti-cheat stopped working" why though??? Why do we need DenuvoDRM AND Easy Anti-Cheat? It's a mostly solo game about being a normal dude flying around killing minions until you fight a boss. If this was 2008, I'd be flabbergasted to find out the game had no cheat codes for infinite ammo, or the best guns, or infinite money. Gaming today is such a soulless husk of the way it used to be. Cheating used to be expected! If this game was never online, they wouldn't need either software and the game would run like 35% better at base. What a waste of effort it was, making this game.
I just want to say: I love this channel. Ever since the AVGN, videogame criticism, heck, media criticism, has been mostly about being angry, bad faith takes and kneejerk reactions and lately they even started becoming political, it's a huge, toxic mess. Seeing someone being emotionally intelligent about his own feelings on a game and analyzing its components rationally and thoroughly, feels like it has become a lost art, but I am not sure I have ever seen it done better than here. The dry humor is sprinkled in just right and the takes are insightful in a way that encourages the viewer to analytically think about game mechanics. In short: This is fantastic, please keep it up.

You do not need to pay attention to what you unlock in the skills trees. I did not read one line of any of the weapons or gear upgrades I got. Just equipped it when it made my stats go Up and beat the entire game on the highest difficulty 😅😅😅. That should tell you how much thought really went into this lame combat system. Also speaking of the story every time Deadshot started talking I would literally start falling asleep. It’s a combination of the voice actor and the writing but holy shit I’ve never seen a more boring character in ANYTHING 😂
Another common white light W. Also I have never seen someone with a more accurate take then thatboyaquas take in the outro, cause I do think my ten year old, mega arkham fan looking ass, would have been pissed off at this game.
The premise of this game is nonsensical. Ignoring the silly defences for the story and writing (clone theory, “DLC will fix it all,” though it did nothing of the sort, and other defences made to cover up the horrid writing capabilities at Rocksteady) this premise is not realistic to the characters and the world they inhabit. Braniac is one of the smartest lifeforms to exist. Letting the Joker escape his ship in the DLC when the League could not, is nonsensical. Batman is a master tactician, experienced martial artist, psychologically powerful, and the peak of raw human capacity. The Squad is one shark with a large firearm, one man with many firearms, another man with one boomerang and a firearm, and one lady with a blunt weapon and firearm. I do not believe that they would win against the Batman, let alone any other League member alone. In fact, Wonder Woman completely dismantled them all in a cutscene. This is shown to us, yet they have us believe that Superman, The Flash, and Green Lantern could not possibly won against them. Ah, but how could I forget the magic “win against League member,” buttons? Speaking of that Wonder Woman cutscene, having Wonder Woman be the one to live seems strange considering that we have Batman as the perfect character to fill that mentor role for the delinquent Squad. Even any “positives,” of graphical fidelity or voice acting can be combatted. The voice acting is admittedly grating for Harley (an already overused and ruined character) and Boomerang (stereotype for Australians, but stereotypes matter little for him in their eyes) and the fidelity may be very nice, but the city is not exactly wondrous to see. The ship in the background is just that: background. There is so much set dressing, but the play never uses the setting or props. It feels like a badly made sitcom. This game is the epitome of whatever is wrong with writing, performance, shallowness, monetisation, and characterisation within modern gaming.
Yeah but comic book power levels are made up monkey shit anyway. Batman's physical strength and intelligence are wildly inconsistent because obviously, he can only be as smart and strong as the story demands. The appeal of the Kill The Justice League concept is contriving an interesting way for low level villains to beat these guys. The problem isn't the contrivance, it's that the solutions they picked were boring as fuck. Make King Shark drink smart people juice that makes him a 12th level intellect even beyond Braniac or some shit. Make Harley get bitten by a legally distinct radioactive Spider. Give Captain Boomerang Toon Force from being friends with Mr.Mxtyplyx. I don't care if you piss on the Flash, just make the moment actually funny.
@@BobtheX agree to disagree on the contrivances. But I 100% agree that the methods were faulty. Even if I disliked the premise, I do think with creativity and genuine care it could work, but this game shows a lack of genuine care across the board.
"Ignoring the silly defences for the story and writing (clone theory, “DLC will fix it all,” though it did nothing of the sort, and other defences made to cover up the horrid writing capabilities at Rocksteady)" What now?
Instead of giving a game to Superman, Flash, GL, or just the League in general after YEARS of fans begging for them, we instead get a disrespectful mess of a half baked looter shooter. Let’s not forget WB pushing an IP that WB seems so set to make a hit despite constant misses. A live service JL game could’ve been more tolerable, but instead we get another attempt of WB wanting to push a team that’s basically just an outlet for Harley Quinn at this point. They are so allergic to good ideas and making money, it’s fucking astounding.
The fact that they base it off of Arkham to get more sales and not caring about ruining one of DCs greatest gaming franchises ever made goes to show how brainless these corporations are.
Imagine this as a single player game, set in this brainiac invasion, where you play as Wonder Woman. I feel like that would have been such a great starting point for a great game.
40:22 is one of the most creative, perfectly visualizing thing I think I’ve ever heard on the entirety of TH-cam, and I didn’t expect to find it on a video about the dumb Suicide Squad games breakdown video
10:45 this is usually done in horror games, usually done to depower the player and make them pick run or hide more often. It can work to provide a slightly more realism as well as allowing more effective startle moments where a melee enemy just barely breaches your third person view. this of course sucks in quick fps games like this, it's literally meant to slow the player down.
It was patently obvious to me on the wind up to release that OF COURSE this wasn't the Arkhamverse. Of course it wasn't! Harley acts different, Deadshot's an entirely different person, everything looks and feels different. Then... it was, somehow. It was the Arkhamverse, something that was pounded into the player's head time and time again, and... for what payoff? What possible upsides could there be? Bringing in different people, an empty Joker with no emotional connection, a different Amanda Waller and Batman, all forcibly shoehorned into the Arkham series universe for... what? It's nonsense, and very indicative of whatever the hell went wrong with developing this game.
Elden Ring currently has 50k players. Suicide Squad currently has 649 players. Even Armored Core 6, which is a niche game, has more people playing it than Suicide Squad.
Elden Ring DLC release date basically forced numerous developers to delay their stuff by one week. Final Fantasy 14 delayed their expansion early access by one week expressely because they didn't want to compete with the DLC, as did, IIRC, the new Persona game. People saw what happened to the new Horizon game (first one released same week as Tears of the Kingdom, the second one released the same time as Elden Ring, both taking the open world in different directions and establishing a 'new standard' that made the Ubisoft 'climb tower, reveal map, free outpost' gameplay look as tired and dated as it is) and decided it really isn't worth repeating that.
@@luketfer by... The first, and the second, horizon, do you mean forbidden West and... I assume a dlc for forbidden West? Or something else? Bc iirc the original zero dawn doesn't match those time frames, right? Not trying to contradict, just a bit confused.

Your video has helped put words to feelings of unease that I've have following this games reveal, launch, and subsequent downturn. Sure all the popular red flags are there: Live service, numbers-based progression, spectacle over visual clarity, comedy that I cringe at. But through your video, things like no character arcs and the anti-climatic story about game ending everyone favorite character(s) were things I felt but could not vocalize. Cheers for your media literacy.
pretty much the only game where even video essays about it are hard to look at. Watching that UI at 2x speed almost gave me a seizure Great video tho, as always!
To make a game like this good it would require an approach no multi million $ company would take but also you can't do it without that money backing you, so it's impossible to make honestly.
White light, nothing makes me happier than to see a great vid from you about a game that sucked for me. It gives me somthing to look forward to atleast when I play this slop. You are epic, keep on gaming
I’m going to attempt to guess the rest of the story: The next episode will hint at the possibility that the jl will come back, then next season has the ms freeze thing and a repeat of the Batman fight but different somehow. The next episode will have some sort of new boss fight, mabey a fight with multiple flash clones and then you rescue/revive flash. You will then spend the rest of the seasons up until 4 where you rescue lantern and superman, revive Wonder Woman through some bullshit and then meet deathstroke who will have bumped off some brainiacs of screen because the games dying and now you have to save Batman, deathstroke will not want to do that but be convinced by the idea of getting to be the one to kill him next time, they then save Batman after a corrupted robin boss fight and then finally you fight brainiac and the game implodes on itself and they never update it again.

The funny thing is that Crystal Dynamics made it worth buying Marvel's Avengers in the brief window it was on sale before being delisted. Namely, they promised the game's servers would remain running, and made the game fully playable offline. I actually tested and verified that by disconnecting my PS4 from the internet, then launching the game. I doubt such treatment will be applied towards Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League when it inevitably gets delisted.
Hate to say it, but given how much time and money was poured into this, this might be the death of Rocksteady. At the very least I would be really surprised if there weren't layoffs later this year...
A lot of this game story could have been fixed if it was the INjustice League/ Legion of Doom. Zodd for Superman Reverse Flash / Professor Zoom for Flash Sinestro for Green lantern Prometheus / Ra's al Gul for Batman Cheetah could even be a stand-in for Wonder Woman Where's the Justice League, IDK fighting Darkseid or something. So the Legion of Doom, with the League's absence, attack metropolis and yada yada yada...
i hate the graphics in the way that they try to be more detailed as possible, but because there are so many bright stuff and flashes, they had to tone the rest down, so now they have this ""greasy" look on everything, like they smeared actual grease on everything
FINALLY someone mentioned Wonder Woman, I keep wondering wtf happened to that game. You brought up an excellent point, it took them 3 years to develop the masterpiece that was Shadow of War, what could possibly take them 7 years with Wonder Woman with only one tiny announcement trailer to show for it? And how tf did they even get the idea of making a Wonder Woman game with the Nemesis system? I can tell you like 10 different franchises off the top of my head that would make more sense with the Nemesis system. It's honestly just baffling, I really hoped for some kind of third part for the Middle-Earth series
It's absolutely insane how publishers keep insisting in live-service games when they have the lowest player interest and retention from every kind of game in existence. Yeah, the couple ones that have succeeded have been a big success, but you'd think they'd have figured out by now that those are the exception while all the other ones have been massive losses. It's like wasting $100 a week in taxi fares to reach the other side of the country because you once found a $5 bill on a street in there.

The UI reminds me of two things:
1) The type of UI a bunch of complete amateurs might make, either as a hobby project or as a minor element in a movie background.

Persona 3 Reload was the superior Suicide Squad release of Q1 2024
Just started, and you've already made me realize how dissonant all it is. "Easy anti-cheat stopped working" why though??? Why do we need DenuvoDRM AND Easy Anti-Cheat? If this was 2008, I'd be flabbergasted to find out the game had no cheat codes for infinite ammo, or the best guns, or infinite money.
Gaming today is such a soulless husk of the way it used to be. Cheating used to be expected! If this game was never online, they wouldn't need either software and the game would run like 35% better at base.
What a waste of effort it was, making this game.

Everything woke turns to shit - Donald J Trump

Wow, didn't expect you to be this invested in this game. I'm sorry for your loss, my condolences.

I’m going to attempt to guess the rest of the story:
The next episode will hint at the possibility that the jl will come back, then next season has the ms freeze thing and a repeat of the Batman fight but different somehow.
