  • In this video I build the 1/35 scale Ryefield Models RFM Panzer IV J. The video starts with examination of the parts sprues and ends with the model built and ready for paint. The model is built from the box with exception of Friulmodel Ostketten tracks.

    Nice build, a little tip when you make Friulmodel use staples instead of the copperwire, bend one side straight and insert it then cut it, no CA-glue, much easier.

      I tried the staples on a different model with Friul's, I didn't like using those, I prefer the wire. But once I use up the Friul's I have I won't be buying anymore metal tracks. I'm only buying 3D printed tracks now.

      @Lian Cassius I would suggest flixzone. You can find it by googling :)

    Great build and nice to hear a modeller who enjoys putting those sub-assemblies together.

    I've been sitting on this kit for a while because of the complexity - so it's gratifying to learn that the fit is so good - thanks.

    Gidday from Australia Steve! I'm waiting for delivery tomorrow (YAY!) on the interior version of this kit, which I got for half price! (AUD$55).
    The external detail looks awesome mate! Very cool! Did you find the fit of the main gun kinda 'floppy' & loose, as others I've read have mentioned? If so, I'm gonna try to find a way to firm up the fit.
    I love all the exterior details; I guess I'm gonna be out of circulation for a while with interior details to deal with as well. Oh, & plus I bought a P.E. upgrade set to go with it, with an aluminium turned main gun barrel. So I guess I'm gonna need to pay even more attention to firming up the fit of the main gun come to think of it aren't I!
    I'm heading straight to your next video on painting this little gem! Thanks for sharing your build!

      It's a nice kit. I don't remember if the gun was floppy, I built the model a while ago. Getting the model for 1/2 price is a heck of a deal for a kit of this quality. Thanks for watching!

    Try metalltracks from R-Model.... you don't need to drill... and you get metal pins...

    • @SPSteve

      I'm moving more towards 3D printed tracks. I've used TRex tracks on my last 2 models and I'm happy with the appearance and assembly. I'll use any metal tracks I have in my stash if I have an application for them, but I don't think I'll be buying more metal tracks in the future.

    I'm doing this right now but have come across a small problem - how did you fit the PE part No Ya 34/35 in step 34? In your video, it shows as Part No Ya47/48 in step 9, I think? Your model is No 5033 (no interior), whilst I have Kit No 5043 (with full interior).

      @@SPSteve The time mark is 15.27 and the parts are highlighted in yellow, showing them to be photoetched parts.The parts I refer to are Ya47 and Ya48 in your instructions.

    i wanna buy one of these but i mainly build revell and airfix but i wanna adventure out some more and test if i can build ones of these so idk if i will be able to build one

    • @SPSteve

      It's a good kit but it has a lot of parts. Have you considered a Tamiya Panzer IV H as something in between Revell and RFM? The Tamiya kit has fewer parts and would get you familiar with the late Panzer IV. Another good kit is the Takom Blitz Panzer III M. It's only $35 USD and is similar to the Panzer IV. I have a series of videos on the Takom Blitz Panzer III M if you'd like to check out the model.

    Great build Steve! With the Ostketten the Panzer IV looks extra beefy. Can you please put in the title that this a photo build and not a video build? Are the photo's available on a website?

    • @SPSteve
      @SPSteve  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't know there was a distinction on types of videos? I tried doing a live type video build with a Tamiya Sherman and it took 5 videos to get the model finished. Using photos I can get a model covered in 2 videos. No the photos aren't on a website. I agree, the the ostketten does make the Panzer IV look bigger.

    please help what keeps the road wheels from coming off they turn but keeps them on

      @@1942catman I managed to score the interior version of this kit for half price! Anyway, it uses polycaps for the drivewheels, idlers & roadwheels. I'm guessing that this version will use the same method. They're a snug pushfit onto the axles, & they rotate!

    What did you do too remove the nubs on the hull pieces some of the nub placements are awkward

    • @SPSteve
      @SPSteve  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't remember doing it specifically, but if it is surface detail to remove I would have used a chisel blade in my hobby knife.

    The tracks are garbage...pins snap off, very fragile. Wish they gave both rubber bands and these but with metal pins.

      Arent the pins suppose to snap off after putting them holes?

    Great attitude about this being a “hobby” not a job. If you don’t enjoy….get out!
