Jaw - Pelvic Floor Connection

  • Let’s talk about tension in our glottis. Or an easier way to think about this is closing your throat. ⁣
Why does it matter? Well, our body is one big connection from our head to our toes and when you hold tension in your throat you increase pressure on your pelvic floor. Pretty crazy right? ⁣
Let’s run an experiment together? Check out this video where we work through tightening and relaxing your throat and jaw to feel the difference in pressure in the rest of your body. ⁣

Could you feel a difference? Curious minds (mostly mine -LOL) want to know. 🤓⁣

DUDE. I don't push my tongue forward, but reading your email where you said to notice tension in your glottis and WOW my throat instantly relaxed! I'm a singer and have been hitting a wall lately in my practicing--I had no idea how much tension I was holding in my glottis & back of my tongue. Crazy!

Thanks for explaining this! I’ve often tried to do a progressive relaxation where I relax my jaw, abs, then pelvic floor. I’m surprised to see this is a real connection!

The tension in my mouth is too lax. When I put my tongue in the correct position, I feel too much pressure on my pelvic floor. Neither dentists nor physical therapists have been equipped to give advice. Oh, sure, the dentist that I have seen now where my tongue should go, but they are completely inequipped to understand the relationship between that in the pelvic floor.

Oh. I have TMD (had an occlusal splint and physical therapy prescribed because of it) and (I suspect) a tight pelvic floor… May be worth looking into! Thanks!

Is the reverse true where tightness in the hip/pelvis areas affects the jaw? For instance, sexual repression.

For a forward head a chin tuck head lift is a great exercise. Here is a link to an article I have about it www.coreexercisesolutions.com/chin-tuck/. I have more videos about tongue positioning in my membership but I do not have any more social media videos I can link for you.
