We want to share our passion for efficient, sustainable homesteading that brings the family together. On our homestead we do chemical-free gardening, grass-fed milk and beef, pastured eggs and broiler chickens, and free range children :) We love to go on adventures as a family, so if we're not workin on the farm, we're probably hiking or out getting ice cream. We're all into DIY, and being inventive and creative. We believe in homesteading that's sustainable, not just sustainable homesteading. In other words, we want to show you that homesteading doesn't have to wear you out to the point that you give it up. We've seen it happen, and almost came to that point ourselves. So go ahead and take a whack at that subscribe button if you'd like to join us on this crazy ride. Get ready to learn and be inspired!
Shoulda mentioned in the video... Yes, I finally got my truck! (our channel members found out when I got it) It's not new, but it's solid and a lot of fun! Enough seats for the whole family, and a little extra flair to fit my creative taste 😊
I noticed the newer truck. Congrats.
Ya bro, I remember I noticed I’d say like a month and a half half ago or 2 , I was like oh nice I had to rewind the video like 3 or4 x niceeee
Where do u get the soundtracks, nice stuff 🎵
I've been trying to purchase a good used vehicle lately. It's tough. Even crap vehicles are expensive. I made a reasonable offer on a vehicle today and it was declined. I'll keep looking. Best of luck with your new truck.
@@doityourselflivinggardenin7986 it’s called supply and demand, when the computer components come from China and Taiwan which they do for most vehicles since Covid the materials have been slow coming to the Americas. My son works for Toyota dealership and there are no deals you pay what the list is and the waiting list on some vehicles are anywhere from 2 to 3 years to get a new vehicle. I want to use vehicle comes back. Let’s say from the lease return or a trade-in it goes at a top price no negotiations take it or leave it they don’t care Care because someone else will buy it. It’s a fact of life right now. Everything is expensive. I don’t know how we’re going to fix it so let’s see what the government does I bought a RAV4 2018 XL all wheel drive for 32,000 Canadian if I put it back on the lot the price is 32,000 Canadian it’s all about supplying demand. Sorry you’re having trouble getting a vehicle but the way life is right now. Just look at your grocery bill all the corporations are gouging for profits and they’re making millions of dollars in profit and that’s why the American government in the Canadian government are taking all the large corporations to task to stop the price gouging I know Harris who is running for president of the American says she will clamp down on the gouging, but our government in Canada has said the same thing but nothing has changed since Covid. It’s a circus and the gree of corporations is out of hand. That’s my ramp for today. Good luck with your purchase.
I love and appreciate how you show your children, but don't "show" them. You provide a wonderful balance of showing how they contribute and learn, and the value they bring to the family/farm, but also protecting them and respecting privacy at the same time. I know that takes extra effort in filming and editing, and wanted you to know you do it so well. Love your haircut, Cody!
Thank you!😊
I just love your videos, the realness and the really candid explanations. Minus the snow it is not unlike farm life in Southern Africa. I feel like we are all more connected by the similarities we share rather than the differences. You have a beautiful family.
Thank you fornsharing your life with us 😊
Love your channel. I suffer from SAD too but since using daylight lightbulbs and putting up lighter colored curtains during winter months,( whites and pastels), and staying ultra busy excercising, learning new things ( this year i will learn pressure canning, herbal infusions for making salves and oils, making dry ingredient recipes like soup mixes, ranch dressings etc) and getting my research on things i'm going to plant next spring. I close the curtains so i dont watch the early darkness. Im in the south so it doesnt last as long as when i lived in NY.thank God! I wish i could grow like you guys! Mine is on a small scale and a lot of pots. I can dream though and keep watching you guys.
With all that is going on in the world and with all that humanity needs to work on, I pray that you will always find ways to share your life and be a teacher for others. We need more people to teach the slower ways and find ways to teach the positives about it. I could go on but I won't. Thank you again!
Hi, I am extremely proud of you, your husband and even all 4 kids. In this day and time you can't find many people who raise and cook their food at home. As a matter of fact (they say) the statistics is 75% ranges and ovens are never used. It's hard to imagine that but it is probably true. I of all people do know how much hard work goes into raising your food, preserving it and then cooking it. You are really great examples for the up and coming young gardeners. Keep up the good job you all are doing. Jessie from Arkansas

Thank you so much Jessie!
Wow! I guess that is one way to keep your stove clean. Mine is never clean.
Michelle...we've eaten fried green tomatoes for years. Try dipping them in 2/3 cornmeal and 1/3 flour...then fry them. The taste is so much better. Use this same mixture for fried okra.
That’s how we do it in my neck of the woods as well. Good stuff!
And ranch for dipping
I have been watching your vlogs for about 2 years now, feeling so happy to see your channel grow. Lots of love from India!
Thanks for following along with us!😊
Just love watching your channel it inspires me and brings me so much peace at the same time. God bless you all
Glad to hear that! Thank you!😊
A charmed life. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Cody, don't you know they outlawed the round hay bales? The cows weren't getting a square meal. 🤣🤣🤣

The end scene was so romantic and calm. Thanks for all of the efforts u put into ur videos
That bread looks so good! Great video. I grew my first loofas also this year in the Florida Keys. I like your idea making them square.
One of your best videos I feel. A day in the life of.... Shows that you are just an ordinary family sharing your insights and ideas whilst dealing with the every day challenges of life and weather/seasons. Thank you all (including the kids) for this. It is really appreciated 😁
Is there ANYTHING you two can't do??? Now you are building your office, lol? I love this family! I love how inspired I feel after watching! - First Time Gardener
I was binge watching your channel all day and you post a new video!! This evening just got better :D Thank you for your videos, they are really calming and interesting
Glad you enjoy them!😊
As always, thanks for sharing your recipes for better health. ❤❤❤
You’re welcome!!
Clearly you put lots of effort into making your videos. They are very rich in content, variety, angles, music etc. I have no experience in this area but your videos are much above others. I have been drawn to your beautiful talent and channel and the life you share w us. Thank you.
Thank you so much!
❤Yesterday night i got the notification...but i didnt watch, coz i was saving it for rainy morning with Masala Chai n salt biscuits taking time n enjoy the video after my garden routine❤❤❤❤
Sounds lovely!😊
Wow, I've never heard anyone else having joint pain from dairy!! I thought it was just me, and also, my skin cleared up dramatically!!
@christinecancel4386 oh god yes ! I have rheumatoid arthritis and too much dairy and/or too much "white carbohydrates" (I stick with whole grains) and I will go into a jount flare that will keep me down for a couple of days !
Perfect example- Lasagna last night and my hips and shoulders are on fire today
@@kamibeckmann196 no dairy no grains no added sugar I get twice as much done in a day
@mgem1611 💯 yup ! No added sugar, but my body doesn't do well without some whole grains, so I do add some but not alot ☺️
@@kamibeckmann196 withdrawal lasts about a week
40 to 50% of calories come from meat
My skin, joints and digestive system don’t love dairy. Strangely, I can tolerate cottage cheese and yogurt more easily than milk and cheese. Maybe it’s because they are cultured? I don’t think I realized how much dairy was affecting me until I cut most of it out
I absolutely love your channel !! Thank you for sharing all of these with us ❤
I used to hate Mondays, but now I can't wait for them to see what you guys have been up to. I love watching your videos as I unwind from a busy morning of teaching. I teach ESL to Chinese Students so being able to just veggie for a while after is awesome on Mondays. I was also going to tell you I am not sure who the Artist is but I love her song and voice. It is so calming. This may sound crazy, but Fall and Winter are my favorite seasons because it is hoodie season and cool days that I can get out and enjoy the beauty of all the Lord has given us. While that is also seen in spring and summer. I look forward to another video. Also, that bread looked amazing. I can't wait for a time when I can cook my own bread and grow my own food. Thank you again for all you are doing and for sharing your family with us.
So glad you enjoyed the video! There is definitely something to appreciate about every season.😊
Michelle, The bread looks wonderful. I love your channel and thoroughly enjoyed watching the luffa segment with your daughter
I love your take on homeschool!
Cody, I love your haircut & gotee. You look 10 years younger❤❤❤

Thanks!😄
Your videos are always sooooo good! Always lots of info and tips and stories we can all relate to. My favorite family to watch. Nice truck btw 😉
Thank you!😊
I love doing sprouts too! I have mine in stacking trays and love it!
There's no way today that I would have my children in a school. You two are great parents! Love watching your channel!
Thank you!
Enjoy you guys always! You just brighten my day. Yes, it's October but great songs should be played. ❤ i love watching you start and then shut down the day. It's like the Waltons. 😊 I'm excited for your fall outdoor clean up video. I'm sure you will remind me of something I have forgot. Lol We planned garlic in Missouri today. It 75 in the day 45 at night. Fall is here. Winter is coming . Time to fine the tools the kids left out. Roll up hoses. So glad you guys are shifting to rest. A good challenge for myself.
Love your channel. I still have tomatoes , peppers, corn, squash and pumpkins in the garden. Unusual weather this year. Have an awesome day.❤❤❤
Someone else mentioned they had been watching you for a while. I watch you once in a while. So proud you have been growing like you have. Great information and attitudes.
Thank you!😊
Hi Michelle! I learned something new and fun by sheer testing. Try sprouting radish if you the kids and Cody want something with a little zip! However their flavor changes if you let them grow to big. They become more bland the larger they get!
I live in just outside of Tampa and we are waiting for Milton to hit. This is a nice break away from the news and scary thoughts.
Prayers! Hope you stay safe!
Stay safe!
Hi Michelle, where i am from, we dont cut the loofahs but select the good ones from the bunch, shake it to remove the seeds n soak it in water probably warm water n clean it till its nice and clean and ready to use.
I really love your channel. Iv been watching for about a couple months now. And just enjoy all of it. Even though I can't do all that , I'm not able to . I have grew up like your ways. And just miss it so much. Thank you both for the explaining everything as you go..
❤ your ending so warm and inviting
Those Jimmy Nardellos are my favorite. So sweet and they are prolific! I left those in in my garden as well.
Hi there, thanks for another wonderful video, they really brighten my day 😊. Re the loofahs, i can't remember if you still have your chickens, but i saw another channel where they were stitching the small squares into larger 4-square pads & using them to line the chickens nesting boxes. They felt they kept the coop & the eggs cleaner & the chickens seemed to really like them. Hope you all have a wonderful week ❤
Thanks for the tip! Hope you have a wonderful week as well!😊
Love this as always! I want to start doing my sourdough in bread loaf pans!
Love you guys❤ young couple living the best life
I can tell that cowdy got better at editing. We like good editing ,keep up the good work 👏
Thanks!😊
Man! Y’all’s channel has grown so much. I remember when you had around 16,000 subs. So happy for you!
Thanks for continuing to follow along with us!😊
I get SAD and it’s awful. I’m coming into summer here in Australia and it’s such a relief. I’m going to invest in the Lumie Vitamin light next winter, I’ve heard good things!
The Real Men Garden shirt is epic!
I’m from Texas and we can’t go barefoot due to horrid grass with burrs and fire ants. This week we are visiting Pennsylvania. One of the first things I did was take off my shoes and walk for a few minutes in the lush, cool grass. It was amazing under my feet. My husband thought I was crazy, but I told him what I’ve learned from y’all about grounding and how healthy it is. If we move up here, I will be barefoot every time I go outside to my garden!
It’s the best!😊
Thanks to you for the new video, I love to see you so relaxed and happy . @ Michelle, I also can't tolerate milk and used to buy milk substitute at the health food store. In Germany it is forbidden to call the substitute milk, so here it has to be called almond drink, for example. I easily make my own almond drink because I want to enjoy it without all sorts of additives. Just half a cup of almonds soaked in water overnight, drain and rinse in the morning. Puree with a liter of fresh water in a blender and drain over cheesecloth. I add 1-2 dates or maple syrup when pureeing, we and the grandchildren all like it very much. Maybe this is a recipe for Michelle too. Kind regards and God bless you
Sounds yummy! Thanks for sharing!😊
@@morethanfarmers 🙂 you're so welcome
Those fried green tomatoes look so good!! Nice truck too!!!
I Love the change of seasons time🤗 Thank you for the bread recipe👍🏼 So Happy for you and your “new” truck!! Congrats!!! It is a pretty one and the colors fit Cody perfect!!! It was meant to be😃 I’ve gotta try growing loofa - any pointers on growing them successfully?
Woo hoo!! You got your truck! I was so excited to see that.
Another nice video. Bread looked good enough to eat !!!!!!!!!! When I quit dairy about 30 yrs ago my sore throats that i got on a regular basis disappeared almost immediately.
I'm in Alaska, and in the winter we have about 5 hours of actual daylight. But Anchorage is called "The City of Lights". Businesses and Homes are encouraged to put lights on the homes and businesses to light up the dark. It's quite beautiful and calming. Yes, S.A.D is huge here and some business and homes have SAD lights going during the day. But, when the sun is out, Alaska is Magical.
As for the Dairy, it's not meant for human consumption, it's for baby calves. I went vegan a couple years ago, and any ailments I had are now gone.
I noticed that the both of you seem more relaxed. It could be because the growing season is over or something else. No matter what it is, it seems to be working for you and your family. Continue to do what benefits yourself and your family. In high school, I did not like math. In college I excelled in math...(algebra, probability&statistics, trigonometry, geometry). In my case, I believe in college, I was working toward a career goal; in high school I was not. There are times we need to do things for the better good. Never forget what you yourself wants.
I love luffa sponges! The skin soap when you make your own soap dip them in it and the sponge and soap are one!
Your editing and video skills have really improved. Super professional. Be proud!
Thank you!😄
Absolutely awesome video!
Thank you!😊
If you have a compost pile, when finished using your loufa sponge , toss it in the compost pile! I’ve done it for years. 🤩
Yes, I've been waiting. Thank you.
Got a hurricane coming in central fla.
Love to see you.
Mini vans rule!
Hope you stay safe!
@@morethanfarmers no sweat. I enjoy your channel. I saw you driving a pickup truck to get hay. Just remember Minivans rule.
I know exactly what you mean....it's quite an adjustment not to be "gardening" every day though here in Arkansas I am still harvesting green beans, figs, and squash.
Blessings!
Hi Michelle. Sympathise with missing being able to have dairy. Something I've recently discovered if you are missing that creamy taste is that blending some hemp seeds in with the almond milk helps to give you a bit of that. I make my own almond milk, but you could just add some to store bought as well. No need to soak the hemp seeds for milk-just blend.
Thanks for the tip!😊
I keep forgetting to tell you that your audio and video is very good.
Thank you!😊
I love your content! Greetings from the Netherlands.
I just placed my onion order from Dixondale Farms over the phone. I mentioned that I heard about them from you guys and the nice lady I was speaking with said that she watches you, too. Thank you for recommending them!🤗
Awesome! You’re welcome!😊
In an earlier video you said some of your family was having issues with milk, some of my siblings also developed issues with milk my mom talked to the doctor and come to find out sometimes raw unpasteurized milk can cause problems.
Try switching to pasteurized milk or heating raw milk to 110° for 10 minutes.
That worked for us
You got a truck!!! Yay! Hope this will make your work a little easier!
I think you will find that you will like almond milk more if you make it homemade. Plus, you won’t get the gums in it that are irritating to the stomach. If I add one or two dates and vanilla when I blend it, it’s even good to drink. Usually I make it plain so I can cook with it. I have also found that if I keep dairy very limited, it doesn’t make me sick when I do indulge.
Hi Michelle, love your channel and your family. I've learned a lot from you all. I started growing sprouts as well. I was wondering if you could share which seeds you like and where you order from. Thanks again! Your Michigan neighbor!
Nice truck! So happy for you 😊
Thank you!
Those Harbor Freight scissors are the bomb! 16:45
Another great episode with sound track and btw, nice haircut Codi.
Thanks!😊
Splash a little red wine vinegar on your fried green tomatoes. Learned it in South Carolina and it is really good!
Love your videos, I had the incredible urge to say night John boy at the end ;).
I enjoyed this video ❤
What are your vices? This channel is so wholesome. ❤
I like your vlog and recipes
Nice truck! I detail Vehicles part time and all that hay in the back of that minivan was driving me crazy! 😬
Try the green tomatoes coated in cornmeal it’s the best moisten the slices and coat then fry on medium heat
Do you have a step by step for your sprouts? 🌱 thanks!! Love watching your videos!
I agree, Codi; it's not milk, it's juice!!!!😂
I take my green tomatoes and dip them in buttermilk and half flour half cornmeal mixed up and fry them slowly. Salt and pepper in the pan!!! They so good
Yum!😋
Cool egg slide! I've never seen one like it. Vertical egging. lol! I'll need to look it up.
SAD is normal for some people. I call it cabin fever. For me, I turn to writing novels. It puts me into a different world. I'm getting excited about finishing my newest novel this winter.
I too feel lost sometimes during the transition. I call it "pushing in the clutch to shift gears". Again, I see this as a normal thing. Homesteaders are not 9 to 5ers, where the work type never changes. Those people are "same stuff, different day" people. I'll push the clutch in and find a different gear. It suits me better.
I lost my mother when she was young too. Brain aneurysm. It was sudden. Unlike you, we were not close. I still have memories of being hit with a folded belt or a maple switch by her. I am happy to hear you have fond memories of your mom. Talk to her. She experiences your life through you. I feel confident that she is a spireluminal guide for you. If you block that aspect of living, you will not feel her. Let go and you may. You may already do that. If so, then 🙂
I wish I could eat bread. It's a wheat thing. ☹️ I do cheat sometimes. Nothing like fresh bread toast slathered with butter and jam.😋 My favorite bread is French Peasant. Yum! Super easy and fast. I slather butter in the pan so it bakes into the crust.
Education is very important, as you said. I still use some algebra, believe it or not. And I continue to learn things constantly. I have taught myself many skills, including genetics.
I though I was the only person left that uses an electric knife. 😆 I'll never get rid of mine.
Stinging nettle tea is good for joints and some pollin allergies. It is my go-to med. Some people dry it to feed to horses that have allergies. I dry it for the winter for my morning tea. I recently began to curb sugar. I have more energy now.
Good song choice! (even though we are in October) 😉
FWIW, my novels have song links in them. For some people that are sensitive to the connection, it really helps them to feel the emotions of the story.
I finally caved 4 years ago and put my chicken waterers on electric heaters.
Best of luck with the office. I've been there. In my mid twenties I built our house. 45 minute drive to my regular job, 25 minutes to the site, worked hours on the house, 1.25 hours back home, hope I get sleep, spend 15 minutes with my toddler in the morning, and then back to my regular job. I did that from April 1st to September 15th, when we moved in. It's a wonder I'm still alive. I think back on it and it seems surreal.
All the best to you all.
I always enjoy your videos. You loofa has turned out well, I wasn't so sure about that either! :)
Live in C Bus and love your videos 💕
I LOVE your recipes. A s someone who LOVES fried green tomatoes, add some cornmeal to your mixture to give it a little CRUNCH you may want to add a little pepper or cayenne to balance the sweet/ heat. You can pan dry them in BACON GREASE to kick it up a notch or deep fry. Lately I have tried to air fry them with an avocado oil spray. Also make a roulade sauce for dipping 😋
Gosh, this is kicking me in the gut - I am 1000% positive that I need to remove dairy from my diet; I've removed it before, and sooooo much of my autoimmune issues cleared up (almost completely) within about a week, and I know if I would've stuck with it, I would've gotten myself into COMPLETE remission. I cut out gluten completely almost 5 years ago, and I'm totally used to it by now. I just hate to lose my heavy cream in my coffee! Maybe you guys could do a video - or a portion of a video - on dairy free stuff that you make and eat?
We live in Ohio southern part. We were in Holmes County. For about four days beautiful country.
I forgot about something to tell you that you are a very good cook from scratch. You know your recipes. You know what the kids like and your husband and I have to say that you are just about as good as Meg. Holler of the holler homestead that knows how to cook from scratch. There's not very many people on TH-cam videos that really do know how to cook as good as you too. That's why I love the both of You and Meg holler homestead TH-cam video. I haven't been with you very long but the time I've been with you so far you are my second TH-cam wife that knows how to cook from scratch and you both do very well. Again, that is why I love the both of your videos that you two put out Meg holler and you out there! Congratulations and I'm proud of you that you know how to cook from scratch extremely well. Again, congratulations for you knowing how to do scratch cooking very well ❗❗❗
Thank you!
I’m in Indiana and yes I know about the coziness etc.. but I still hate the winter i even don’t like fall like so many other people do!! I get depressed and long for summer sounds and of course the sun 🌞
Awesome comments 💗 Chelle, you need a lifted area for bread making. That's a hard bend for yor back💗
Love you videos, it always makes me dream of my own homestead one day! Coming from Germany I do kids in the US have no school for month in summer? One comment to dairy from a scientist there is actually not much benefits scientifically for consuming it, almond taste quite bitter especially in coffee, try oat or sunflower and it's quite easy to make yourself in a creamy way. Your cysts or artist like symptoms are quite alarming as milk especially is reducing the calcium from your bones, therefore is also related to osteoporosis in women especially. Just maybe something to read up on yourself (reading articles not just social media and form your own opinion). All three great to you!
Kids have a couple months of summer break here. Thank you for sharing!
I finally figured out who Codi reminds me of. He looks so much like a young Peter Coyote. He’s an actor and he’s so talented. Look him up!😊
You're right
Maybe A2A2 milk would help or goats milk is an option too, I forgot coconut milk. Milk is a hard one to not use. We use it so much.
I have an allergy to the protein in dairy and have been dairy free for 15 years. I've found cashew milk to be the most neutral flavored. I bought a MioMat about 2 years ago and wish I had years sooner. It saves me so much money and I have super clean end product. All that being said, when I feel like I can tolerate a little dairy I still break down and occasionally eat cheese. 😂 Our Ninja Creami was a game changer for me too as I can now eat ice cream again without all the extra junk in it!
All and all, not consuming the dairy, elimating all my joint pain, inflammation, sinus congestion, fatigue etc has made it so I really don't crave dairy anymore. The benefits of not eating it out weigh the saddness of not eating it ❤
Nice truck!!
when i transitioned to plant 'milk' i missed the creamyness the most and now just do my own cashew milk because it's creamy and i don't need to filter it, just blitz up after boiling hot water over them and ready... and found one brand that has a barista variety that is really rich, but i only use it when i run out of the cashwes.
Michele,,fried green tomatoes are best picked green ,,,but fried them in butter very slow ,,med to low heat with a lid over them ,,,after you do this you’ll be saying ten out of ten
Master Books is what we do with our 5 kids for 3 years now.
I love Oatmilk.
almond milk (and most nut milks) are very thin and not suitable for coffee or tea because they don't have a strong taste or tongue-feel. i suggest soy or almond creamer, which is thicker (soy is more of a cream substitute for tea due to it's mild flavour, and almond is better for coffee because since it lacks flavour on it's own, it's usually sweetened with vanilla or other flavorings)
Nice truck!
Yay! A new video!! Wait… did you finally get a new truck?
Yup! Got it a few months ago.
