They’re allowed to make mistakes here and there. They were flawless when I saw them a couple years ago. I was genuinely surprised to see the whole 2 hour+ show and not hear a single out of place note. Even Lars was on fire that night.

As a guitarist, this is perfectly normal, and I love when they make mistakes. Proves they’re human. They’re an incredible band that uses no back tracks or any cheat codes. They also have a catalogue spanning decades and give us fans rare ones all the time. God bless Metallica

I remember being shocked at seeing Steve Vai fuck up at Donnington in 1988 but as I went to more shows I realised that these guys were human beings and dancing about the stage and throwing shapes, not sat in a bedroom with the guitar under their chin playing through headphones. Many of the critics have never even played in band or even up loud.I Remember when somebody asked a TH-cam wizzkid to play live at a festival with them and he shat his pants and said he couldn't. Said he suffers panic attacks lol .Yeah he cant do his Paul Gilbert impression on an amp turned up past 2 : )
Whoever has been in a band and actually performed on a stage for people, will realize that it's never perfect. Some folks are better than others, but music isn't a contest of most perfect live performances. If you're into that, watch some lip synced pop and you'll be so much happier. Not cool to throw shade at Kirk IMO he's a legend
Yeah he has arthritis in both of his hands, but there's a lotta reasons as to why his chops have been going down over the past 13 years, 2011 is when it became noticable. He hasn't actually practiced for several years, and he's been smoking weed for 20 years or a little longer now, ever since he started surfing, and weed affects your memory, that's a well-known fact. James doesn't have any issues, and as a guitarist for 24 years myself, rhythm is harder on your wrists, forearms and hands than playing solos is. Just being honest man. Take care.
Kirk is originally one of the reasons i got into guitar, then eventually realized i like James even better. i thought i wanted to do leads till i realized how much more i loved just riffing and rhythm hence why i like James. not to mention how much more difficult lead is compared to rhythm. Metallica is my number one practiced music and I've put the most time into learning there stuff. love master of puppets and battery. my mom is who introduced me to Metallica when i was just as kid in the early 90's. the first song i remember her showing me was for whom the bell tolls because she liked lars and his crazy drum kit and the way he played that song. she went to a bunch of concerts back in the 80's and 90's. by the way. who are you and what's your relationship with the band? I've been subbed to you for some time now and I've always wondered. i assume you must work with or for them. thank you as always for sharing these videos with us!!!
As much as these guys play, mistakes happen. Sometimes, it is equipment failure as well. I will add that these guys are getting up there in age, and that definitely can impact your playing at times.
Saw them on this tour, and there were tiny tiny mistakes, but it goes to prove that what they do is 100% live and that makes it all the more impressive how consistent they are still this late in the game
31 live Metallica shows times 2 hours in average performance time for Metallica equals to 62 hours. Half an hour in mistakes is 0.5 hours. 0.5/62= .008 or .8%. Kirk Hammett in general, off of the small amount of data I have, is 99.2% accurate. I did not include that technically they play over 2 hours and other shows outside of their tour. I also didn’t include that this video may have not captured all of his mess ups, time in between playing and not playing in live shows, and repeating clips in this video that impacts duration. However, I do think the result of the basic calculation is much more representative of Kirk’s playing than simply saying that he needs to practice. Obviously most people are too stupid to deviate from the population and follow and believe any notion presented to them. “simple” -clearly “simple” thinking.
You speaking from experience? The number of hours they do onstage a year and it totals to 30 mins of (mostly) minor mistakes isn't a big deal. I saw them in June '24 and it was the best concert experience I've ever had.
@@moonke77 Yup. Saw them in '89, '92, '94, 2003, 2009 and 2011. They progressively have gotten worse since 2003 and tickets have just gotten out of control.

Unless you are 68 year old Dave Murray or 67 year old Adrian Smith. More a testament to their greatness than a knock against Kirk.
