Grinding pen, proper calibrated wire, shorted capacitor, shorted mosfet, 30 minutes craft... What a fantastic repair video!!! And we have picture!!!! Proper nice wake up today😍
What were you doing with the tweezers at 7:40 when you were injecting voltage. You said shorting to ground the cpu and gpu. Can you please explain. Thank you.
I take my hat off to Sorin, a lot of repairers would have just replaced the motherboard and landed the customer with a hefty bill to pay. It takes years of experience to reach this level of repair skills.
@@milsiart4976 New motherbiards come at a very hefty price for gaming laptops. If only the user had at least cleaned the fans this repair may been avoided.
@Pro5G_ Sorin has earned his income on this one, and people with his skill level don't work for peanuts. I have spent a lifetime in consumer electronic repairs, you now require many skills way beyond the ability to use a multi-meter and soldering iron.
@Pro5G_ Repairing a motherboard that is this badly damaged is taking a big risk. It might last a few more years or only a few months. The fact that the owner allowed the fans to be so badly contaminated with dust tells me that they just ran it until it overheated. Guess what they will do when they get it back!
I've watched Rossmann and Northridge for years, this is the first video of yours I have seen. I was concerned when you started butchering the board and briefly horrified when you talked about not cleaning the fans but what a great job!. Liked and subbed.
You know it's gonna be bad when it's 4 minutes into a 40 minute video and you think it's gonna be an easy one 😂 great job, I would've given up on this pretty quickly
Same.. I've been watching Sorin's video for quite some time...maybe I missed some of his repair videos but this one is something else. Never seen this type of repair on a laptop. Somehow the drilling part is more like a dentist job...😮 Amazing anyway
Woooow What a micro surgery !!!! Really impressive Thank you Sorin for your endless passion that gets viral with all around you What a pleasure to bring something completely dead back to life 🙏
Oh my Zeus, you resurrected that motherboard back to life. Watching you repair this laptop was like riding a roller coaster. And that ACER display at the end was worthy of an AGT golden buzzer and the finale. In a different video I commented that you're a master. But in reality you are nothing short of a grand wizard with that soldering iron and the hot air gun as your wand and staff. And you did all that wizardry while talking to your TH-cam audience at the same time.
truly crazy video, bet most places would just reject the job since they saw the board burnt and goes "welp, that's unrepairable". I never saw people drilling into board to repair it, this video is really new experience.
Hello, relatively new viewer here. I’m always amazed at how you know your way around the pcb like the back of your own hand. Your knowledge of how to go about checking for proper currents and finding shorts is amazing. You do all these things without any schematic and always happen to have the proper replacement parts just laying around is incredible. I can only imagine how many years experience you must have. Bravo, well done! Burnt trash back to a working laptop in less than a hour…how could this be? Truly amazing and inspirational !! 😁👍
I'm stunned by the size of the hole and amazed at your confidence that no layers of the board will be lost while drilling! As I can see, at least 4-5 layers were exposed Thanks for the entertaining video, and by the way, "We have picture" of your shirt, that might help you in this repair, Sorin! Good **** job!
This was an amazing lesson on board layering and how to remedy when you have multiple layers shorted, a nice angle-grinding technique. These are the types of challenging repairs that I enjoy and learn from the most qualified, watching a pro getting it done is very inspiring and adds to my skillset knowledge. I haven't had many LT's to repair but feel confident after watching so many repair videos. Great stuff Sorin, thank you so much for this lesson !! They can't all be 10 min repairs - that would get old. More fun to have the challenge element involved. Better yet, maybe repair other boards such as control boards or a TV or Audio device, just to mix things up a bit. So much to learn ... always learning. 🤓🥱🙂
ok I've seen some great videos from you but this is the one that's making me subscribe. what the hell, you are some kind of magician sorcerer genius, it's amazing
Mad respect for you Sorin!!! I laughed so hard, there was a gaping a-hole with brown stuff coming out, but you still managed to fix it with some grit and some calibrated wire 😉. AMAZING work
You are Dr HOUSE from now on.... because you have surgeon hands/skills. You have wiped huge potential earnings from electronics manufacturers with all your repairs over the years....not to mention bank loans (some of them worth > 1000 E) . keep it on!!
Dear Sorin. After watching many of your educative videos for a few years you dont stop to surprise me. You show me a meteorite impact on a pcb and your words are (we are still ok.. We can fix this..) then starts digging in a board where i would already gave up on ever being able to fix this alien struck board. You show us every time that you will only give up when you actually found the problem. Because now you actually learned something. Iam just a hobbyist but i also always want to figure out wats the cause. Its either that , Or i somehow make magic smoke.
Wow! Very impressive repair. Really interesting these repairs of the Nitro 5 as my brother has one I bought for him and just waiting for it to go boom. Thanks to yourself Sorin I feel confident in fixing assuming the CPU and GPU are alive. Good job 👍
that was insane Sorin, but you got it fixed is all that matters. You truly are an inspiration when it comes to repairs like this. I've got an XBox Series X with a similar hole in the board after a GPU Mosfet welded itself the the board and incinerated the layers right through to the other side. just waiting on some dental grinding tips to arrive before i go ham at the crusted layers. I'll post a before pic in discord
alcohol open the second mosfet, that is why you have short, it is dangeros to put 19V on mosfet full of alcohol, you can demage even CPU, but great job Sorin, pleasure to watch ☺
That is absolutely incredible. Soring is a wizard! Also you could make a carpet out of that dust on those fans! Looked like a nuke went off on the back of that board wow!
Greetings from Philippines 🇵🇭 that’s one hell of a repair, that’s a fry mother board, i also have a nitro 5 with rtx3080 suddenly got shutdown, always maintained and cleaned fans ,I didn’t know what the cause of it’s sudden shutdown,i wish that you’re just near so i can bring my laptop to you, hats off , new subscriber here
For a moment I thought I was sitting in my Dentist's chair getting a tooth filled! Might ask her to use rosin as a filler next time. 👍 Fantastic effort and great job in the end. I hope your customer appreciates what you have done - resurrected his laptop.
You almost had me when you said you'd give it back with dusty fans just so you'd have a return customer ha! Thanks for the laugh, this was an amazing fix.
At 32:30 after replacing the MOSFET and putting the blob of solder to join the two bits of track why was the surface-mounted capacitor not replaced as well?
It's the same when we repair cracked cyl heads, just that in extreme cases you might have to grind for 300mm to remove the crack before you weld - lol -.
I understand most everything you cover on this channel. I've learned so much! But I can not wrap my head around drilling through multi-layer boards like that. I really need a detailed instructable (maybe an animation?). lol. Cheers!
Grinding pen, proper calibrated wire, shorted capacitor, shorted mosfet, 30 minutes craft... What a fantastic repair video!!! And we have picture!!!! Proper nice wake up today😍
You forgot flying mosfet
What a fantastic repair video!!
What were you doing with the tweezers at 7:40 when you were injecting voltage. You said shorting to ground the cpu and gpu. Can you please explain. Thank you.
You also forgot that he didn’t replace the capacitor that was arcing under the test probe.
Good comment. 😂
I love how he just kept saying "this is fine" over and over trying to convince himself it'd be easy😂😂
I'd even declared the board is dead and gave up n tell customer to buy new one. 😅
I take my hat off to Sorin, a lot of repairers would have just replaced the motherboard

If I had drilled a hole in a motherboard, the laptop would never turned on 😂
Honestly this guy is amazing and one of the best engineers I've ever seen. ❤
Damn, that was a full on bypass surgery performed on the mobo. Great job 👍
That's exactly why people want to pay for a class from you! You sir, are a savant when it comes to electronics repair. That's awesome.

This is a great job,I wasuze sure the laptop will power on,I like this guy
exactly what this person said!! I fell for the joke too LOL
Even i felt very satisfied when the picture came up :D

Even in the end I was still expecting CPU to be fried. I got just as excited as Soring when I saw that “we have picture!” 😃
Proper surgery this one! Thanks for another enjoyable fix Sorin.😁
This is by far the prettiest repair you've done this year. Congrats
I cant believe we left the shorted mosfet and dug hole through the board all this while......its was so fantastic to watch through wel done sir

When you said lucky customer I checked the time left in the video and started laughing a bit.
The dirt in those fans...holy hell no wonder why the thing imploded. 37:28. Sorin wearing a proper calibrated shirt for this repair!

You deserve a trophy 🏆 👏, that's some top skill 👏

what an amazing fixing drilling the board and it still works
burnt layers, a hole into the motherboard. Sorin...Is not that bad 😳
that was cool surgery 😯 it is rare to see one like this repair type
is there any other common replacement for the rosin btw?
This is exactly why Sorin is the best
I also feel the stress even though I don't know what you are doing
I would have just told the customer the motherboard is dead, would never drill a hole, insane repair skills.
The grinding was insane, I was like, with that much shorting whether it will come on or not, but that's a very lucky customer
Wow what a repair 😱✨🤩 Sorin you’re the best
you are crazy !!!!! ..... great job ... well Done sorin !
