    Skil has been upping its game lately. Last night, Lowes had Skil brushless 10 tools set for sale at $149. I grabbed two sets as a gift for my relatives. You can't beat the price and performance of Skil. It's not professional, but for a homeowner, it's plenty. I would've bought a set if I hadn't invested 90% in Milwaukee.

    • @TinkerWithTools

      I own the drill, impact, circ saw and multi-cutter already or else I would probably jump on the that kit pretty quickly. They have some decent stuff for sure, but the saw isn't something that I would recommend to anyone. I need to do a review of that.

    • @TNAN007
      @TNAN007 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TinkerWithTools The saw is weak because of the battery. That's my theory. The same goes for the new generation 2 Milwaukee circular saw. The 2.5 HO is definitely half the power of the 5.0 HO when it comes to cutting. If Skil comes out with HO batteries later, it will improve their tool power.
      But given how much Skil has been improving lately, I definitely invest in them as a home diyer if I have to start over. My Milwaukee investment is eating up my wife's allowance budget.

      You got a great buy. I purchased the same set a day later for 199.00. I have yet to open it and was thinking of returning the kit. I do not really care for the fan, hacksaw, inflator and the lights. Let me know if you have used the items that I mentioned and tell me if it is worth keeping them. Thank you..

    • @TNAN007
      @TNAN007 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@MB-ir8xf Well, I bought it as a gift for my relatives, so I didn't get a chance to use it. I bet the saw is good with a bigger battery, like 4Ah or more. 2Ah and less are not meant for anything with a power draw tool like a saw.
      I have a similar Ryobi fan, and I use it every day to cool down my kids' foods and as a personal fan by my desk. The light is subjective since I own about 30 different types of light (I know I need help), so I don't imagine myself using the Skil light and using that battery for something else.

    I think skil has a real gem on their hands with the 12v line, almost to the point I'd argue as a brand they should focus on it more so than the 20v line. The new 12v battery has a fast charge usbc port on it, like honestly its just the perfect homeowners line. 5 inch circ saw is plenty for cutting sheet goods, drill and impact are fine for around the house chores. Things like fans, lights and radios do not need more voltage. Any battery automotive tool would work double duty corded or cordless without a voltage converter as you would have battery power and car power being the same voltage. Tire inflator, 120v inverter (120w, 10a is perfectly feasible for these batteries), small wet/dry vac and even a battery powered jack. An automotive style 12v charger would also be really good for the brand as there's no inverter needed, just take the 13-14 nominal volts of a car's electrical system with some protective circuitry and batteries would charge 1 to 1, the charger would be like 10 dollars new. Even things like heated apparel, compact OPE like sheers, hedge trimmers, sprayers and compact blowers would be huge.
    If skil wants to go after ryobi, they need to hit ryobi where it hurts, the homeowner segment where ryobi spams random things and sees what sticks. 12v tools will always be cheaper than 18/20v and ryobi abandoning their mid voltage tools will bite them if skil fills the gap.

      Chervon (the Skil/Kobalt/Flex parent company) has some really good tools and at varying price points. But their in person exposure is really lacking. I want to see them succeed if nothing more than to push other brands while still offering good value. I agree with you about the Skil 12v tools. There hasn't been a whole lot of incentive for me to get into their 20v lineup but I currently own 4 or 5 of their 12v tools.

      @TinkerWithTools yeah skil's biggest issue is sharing a shelf with kobalt and craftsman, two way more well known brands that have way more tools on their platform. The 12v being unique as the only diy 12v brand gives them a leg up over ryobi and craftsman

    I have every single one of those 12 Volt tools and have used them all extensively.
    I have pretty much come to the same conclusions as you regarding each tool.
    Milwaukee has established itself as the king of the 12 volt field, with Skil offering great value, but I also really like the DeWalt Extreme impact and drill combo as well. I often use it with the 3 AH battery and to me it's a great tool that's part of a decent lineup that isn't a bad choice for homeowners or non demanding professionals alike.
    Does it beat out the Milwaukee which is the king of 12 volt tools? Nope, but not everyone needs the top of the line tools and many will find the DeWalt ergonomics better than the Milwaukee so they'll enjoy using it more.

    I use a bosh multi head driver (non impact) and the 6ah battery really wakes it up for cabnet and pannel install with trim screws. I do use the skill auto hammer and agree the 4ah makes a world of difference. If I got a skill 12v impact at ridiculous price I may try it. The m12 surge and 3rd gen take the cake for most used impact I see and use. They really do 90% of what many of us need. The only time I use my triple hammer or dcf850 is big decks or tons of headlocks. I think people can beat the middleman here and buy the m12 3rd gen at the 99 dollar annual sales and get the best of both worlds. I saw someone comment talk to me after 5 years well my surge is pretty much 6 years old work like a champ has had a boot on it asap. They do last even under heavy use spend up on what you want and the platform that will help you in the long run.

    Thanks for a great video once again. For a lot of jobs too much speed and strength can actually be a problem, and I have found that the DeWalt DCS850 is too strong even in PrecisionDrive mode. Therefore I have found my self reaching for an older less powerfull compact option like one of the first generations Bosch Impact drivers. Instead of only testing the speed, it would be nice to see examples of more delicate precision work on small screws, and by that avoiding a snapped screw head.

The additional problem for someone that is always testing/reviewing new and different tools is rarely will a tool get 5 years of use even in a 5 year time period. Spend top dollar like Festool or Hilti…no you don’t need to, but if you drop right down to budget tools you get what you paid for. For power tools I recommend sticking to tried and true good quality tools which you’ll enjoy using instead of cursing a poor tool’s inadequacies. DeWalt, Milwaukee, Makita will see you right for every tool with the power to make light work of every use. You can buy others, but how good they are usually varies from tool to tool. Personally I believe in buy once cry once….DeWalt is near double the price of Ryobi, but you’ll enjoy using the tool and have confidence in it. Avoid at all costs the cheapest near toy grade tools. They will be under powered, often inaccurate where it matters and probably not last long. Best advice…research YT tool user channels before spending out…it might save you buying a lemon!

      Ok I've read this twice and here's my theory. You are a AI bot that's been prompted to be a non-native English speaker using a another AI bot to check for grammar but not coherence.

    The whole pro vs prosumer is no longer a talking point. Pros are ysing lower brands because they get the job done at half the price. Amatuers are using the so called pro tools do to wanting the name brand.
