Tile guy here, an old one haha. My 870 just came in and hanging rock in showers is night and day different now. Like he says the sound doesn't translate in videos. It's amazing. Especially after years of damaging my ears. It's like if you were to use your other impact under water . Very happy with mine.
I have the 840,845 and 850, with the 3 my experience with the 850 is the best performer. Great for in-between wall studs but it is fat headed. Right now the 850 is enough for me.
Carried and used an 850 for years, loved the size! The 870 is almost identical in size but the noise reduction in person is great as well as how smooth it drives screws.
Once think I don’t see a lot of people talk about is the weight difference. But after having the 850 on my hip for a year the step up to the 860 definitely was heavier, biggest reason I went back “down” to the 870 was due to weight and noise.
Meant to include weight but I forgot about it. The 840 is the lightest with with 850, 845 and 870 are all pretty close with the 870 being the heaviest of those three. The 860 is the heaviest by a few oz.
@ 3:08. Speed One may not be for everybody, but it DOES work surprisingly well for really small screws. I can consistently set screws as small as #6 X 3/4, or even 5/8 into wood. YMMV of course. 😀 Having said that, the 850 is not the best or favorite impact I own, but I have been able to fasten screws in some ridiculously tight spaces. For that, it CANNOT be beat! Take care stay safe! 👍
I have an 887, 850, the New Kobalt, the Kobalt XTR, the best Ryobi, the Metabo, the Milwaukee M12. I like my 850 the best. I like the Metabo compact for smaller, more fragile projects, the Kobalt XTR is a bit of a brut, it’s heavy and I don’t care about it as much, so I use it with larger projects and don’t care if it gets thrown around a bit. The 860 might have to be my next one.
Waiting for 870 to arrive where I live. Got 921 for 'high power' stuffs instead of 860. Would have purchased 845 or 840 but has the 12V for small stuffs.
Acme tools. Ordered mine from there. It's actually confusing at first it's so quiet. I'm very happy with mine. I build showers so I don't need all the power in the world . But quietness, oh man what a bonus. And it's PLENTY strong and fast for most everyone I would say. Sinks hardibacker screws into cement board no problem. Just does it 10x quiter
Great comparison and assessment. Thanks TWT! Might have to pick up the 870 on a deal if they ever offer it. My 850s have enough power for my professional uses and I am a fan of the speed one slow set feature. But in certian circumstances a quiter impact would be great. And it looks like the 870 still has a pretty compact size similar to the 850s demensions which im also a big fan of.
This was an excellent video. Great Job on this. Two questions though, between the 850 and the 845 in your experience which would you say has the more refined and consistent speed 1? In the video it looked like the 845 did but tough to judge with one test. Other question is general in how much db noise reduction rating would you recommend in a headset for occasional use?
The function of their speed 1 is the same in how it's programmed. So on paper it's pretty much identical. I have always said that I prefer the 845 to the 850 overall, but I don't know that speed one is a really separating factor between the two.
I will pick the DCF870 for the quiet and DCF840 for small size and even cheap price , for the power i had the Gen3 Milwaukee and still powerful at all , sometimes too power for my applicates
Good comparison, but personally when im feathering the triggers, i dont pulse it. I feel the 840 might have looked better, probably felt better too if you just varied your pressure a little bit. Otherwise good video, and roughly what I expected to see lol
HVAC guy here, the m12 works great for most stuff we do but I carry the 870 with a power-stack. Really notice the power difference when I put a uni-bit on there.
I’ve owned all of these and still have most. 90% of people should buy the 870, 5% that “need more power” should get the 860 and if price is a concern just buy the 840 and it’ll be fine.
870 all the way - so much easier on the ears. My 840 & 850 are relegated to remote/backup-duties at this point, and honestly if i need something stronger than the 870, i'm fine just putting a 1/4-hex adapter on my 892 impact wrench.
Hey man recent subscriber here. Love your Chanel and I’ve been going through many videos on drills. I see you praise the dcd800 drill and it does look very nice. I’m a home owner and diy guy. I was wondering if you think it is worth spending the extra 50 dollars to go up to the Milwaukee 2904 for the bare tool over the dewalt? I have a Milwaukee impact so I don’t need any batteries and can just buy the bare tool if need be. Just starting to collect tools as a new home owner as I need them. I do have a couple dewalt tools as of recent as well, so I’ve got batteries for both and just looking for opinions on value for money and long term ownership. Would love pinions from the comments section as well
One of the things that I love how the 800 in particular is how compact it is especially running it on the 1.7ah Powerstack battery. It’s shorter and lighter than the 2904 in that configuration but on many DIY level task it will provide good enough performance that you may not notice a difference. But with that said, it would lack the hammer drill function (you can get that on the 805) but then you are also getting Milwaukees auto stop technology which makes the tool safer and it can reach heights the others can’t. So if I could only own 1 I would probably pick the Milwaukee for its higher ceiling but I can tell you that owning both the 800 gets more use.
You're welcome! And yes, they are certainly at the top of quantity right now. Because there are 3 to 4 currently being sold that I didn't talk about in this video.
Thank you! Use the 850 every day Just bought the 860, I retrofit rafters with 1/4” lags, speed is good. Will try the 870, I also drive lots of trim screws
Just my opinion but any impact these days will get the job done can’t say the same for the drills if you’re trying to drill into concrete, use hole saws, large lags, etc etc many of the cheaper drills will fail you or take forever.
With impact drivers I have found that the more premium options are typically fast and more powerful or they take the route of being super smooth and nice to use. But you are right that they are all capable of doing the same jobs for the most part.
@ yes I agree some are very smooth I have lots of dewalt tools and some 12v Milwaukee stuff but I used a friends fuel m18 tools when building some cabinets and man are they smooth! It’s making me want to make the switch. Makita also seems to be a very pleasant to use. Maybe I just need to get the more premium dewalt tools? I’m just running an older XR from 2019 not sure the model.
Makita is always the smoothest impact for me. They aren’t as strong or powerful but they just are nice to use. I have the new XDT20 coming next week and I’m excited to put it to use.
Recently moved and I have been working on a new set up. The camera was having some technical issues and kept reverting back to manual focus without me noticing until I was editing. I have corrected it in more recent videos.
The 860 is quick, but not $200 quick lol. Still an M12 Fuel guy for medium or light jobs. If I ever have to drive huge bolts, I'd just use a Hercules for $50.
M12 and Dewalt 20V/60V has been a winning combination for me. Even the Hercules tools are still miles away in build quality compared to Milwaukee and DeWalt.
If you play the game right now and do the battery hack at HD you can get the 860 for right around $100 if you return the batteries... or snag a kit with a 6ah and a 4ah for with the 860 for only $199. That makes it a bit more compelling.

The real one to get is the one you get on sale tbh
It’s a good time of the year to buy several of them on deals.
Yep. Got the 860 for free with a 4ah and 6ah battery kit at home depot. You can even take the batteries back and just get the 860 for $100.
I have the 840,845 and 850, with the 3 my experience with the 850 is the best performer. Great for in-between wall studs but it is fat headed. Right now the 850 is enough for me.

845 is faster than the 850 and better by a little
@@SoundStonersENT My examples of the models tell me different.
Still love my 850
I have always said there is something like able about it even if it’s not the fastest they make.
@ agreed
Speed isn’t everything. It fits where bigger impacts don’t without compromising power.
Carried and used an 850 for years, loved the size! The 870 is almost identical in size but the noise reduction in person is great as well as how smooth it drives screws.
@@calebcrockett1085 Thats probably what I would go after a comparable form Factor
850 for me hands down. Went thru hell and back with me. Not the fastest... but i get paid hourly
Glad to see it's working out for you.

Yeah, the speed one demo on a 3" fastener is pretty exaggerated.
I’m looking to purchase a new drill and driver and decided to go with Dewalt. This was very helpful. Thank you!
Glad this was helpful - hope it helps you decide which one to go with!
I'm getting the DCF 845 today on UPS.
I hope you like it.
870 hands down for my needs it’s perfect. If I ever decide to splurge, it’ll be on the 860. If I need a bigger tool I whip out the 2953-20.
The 870 is sufficient for almost all of the work that I do for sure.
Don’t waste your money on the Milwaukee used mine 3 times and the gears sound like rocks rolling around lol.

I have all that you mentioned minutes the XTR but I did notice it on sale right now so I
Might have to finally pick it up.
I love the 870 it's so much quieter and seems to turn the screw further with each impact than my 845
The quiet is a big selling point, but I just find the hydraulics a bit nicer to use as well.
@@TinkerWithTools yes it's a lot smoother and i can use it inside people's houses without sounding like im using a jackhammer.
Waiting for 870 to arrive where I live. Got 921 for 'high power' stuffs instead of 860.

Compare the 870 to m12 impact, every hvac service, appliance repair use the m12 I think
I’ll have to do a short on that.
not even remotely true.
Been done on other channels, the 870 is more than 2x more powerful than even the 18v milwaukee hydraulic

I still love my dcf850 for now had it since release day and it hasn't had an issue with anything, absolutely love it.
The 850 certainly has a strong following.
I’ll stick with my DCF840 that came with a 2amp battery, a charger, and a bag for $99.
One of the better values in tools.
As tempting as that 870 is ill stick with the 850. But that said I can't buy one yet.

Are Home Depot and Lowe’s going to carry the 870?
I believe it was on Lowe’s website at one point but so far neither is carrying it.
Lowe’s is showing DCF870. Item # 6533940. Not in stock yet. Ace Hardware is carrying it as kit with 8.0ah power pack. Item # 2038646. Price is $299.
