Just so everything is clear, can we get just an overall list of the cars you’re restoring and what stages they’re in? Since most of them are variants of an M3, maybe give each vehicle a “name” you can include in the title of each video so we know which car you’re working on. Just a thought.
Good idea. Personally, I am not really concerned about which parts go to what car. I just enjoy his style of video making and seeing the progress on the parts and his skills.
My E30 isn't due for a restoration yet. However, when I perform maintenance on it I always restore, repair, or replace whatever else that needing it. Thank You as always for the great videos! 🙂

Just bought my own 1988 e30 325i convertible. Blue on blue but the outside needs new paint and i need new blue leather for the seats inside. First project car and I’m watching these videos to get a feel for what I’m getting in to. Love the vid great editing and content 👍🏾
Stunning job as usual, on a personal note, replacing the expansion tank was the best chioce. Yes the old were maybe crystal cleaned but still almost 30 years old made of plastic. I had a bad experience on that subject.
Depending on the plastic sometimes it takes a week for the UV trick to work. I watch a bunch of game console restores, one guy had to have the controller plug in the peroxide for a week for it to whiten, because it was a "softer plastic". I know most of your black plastic was really scratched up, but if you ever get any fading , like black to grey, you can reflow the plastic with a heat gun "carefullly!" It makes the plastic "sweat" and basically recoats the plastic to oem look.
Just a note, AC flush works great to restore the whiteness of the plastics. Although it’s a little pricey, we get a free bottle in the ac kits we get and I used it on my gas tank on my go kart and the seat, and man was it’s cleaning power insane.
When repairing the plastics like the ones seen at 5:45 in this video, my dad and I found it quite useful to sand down and scruff up the areas around the break extensively, we then used a very thin aluminum mesh screen and some methacrylate adhesive to make a sort of composite solution that could then be sanded smooth filled and painted resulting in a much stiffer part than beforehand, hope this helps (it’s definitely not cost effective by any means, would only use on parts you can’t find easy)

For your steering contact plastic post - mix some epoxy, apply it externaly to all of the post with a small brush, wait a bit until epoxy begins to dry (still a bit sticky) - then cut a length of heat shrink tube and shrink with heat until the epoxy just starts to slip out of the tube.
@@RestoreIt That little part on the steering column was a perfect candidate, you should look into getting a cr-10 or ender 3, they're magnificent for 200-300$ 3d printers. Or if you wanna go all out there is the prusa mk3s but that's like 700$ so probably not what you're looking for.
@Restore It. for plastic parts that could be hard to find, you could most likely have them 3d printed. the part you tried to glue probably would take no more than 20-30 mins to design, and about the same to print... For pennies. just in case you get stuck.

I have used hydrogen peroxide to retrobrite a ton of vintage computer parts over the last few years. If the weather is good you might want to try using sunshine instead of the UV lamp. i think the heat from the sun may help speed things along, and not every UV light is created equal. I only use my UV light here in the winter. I have my best results with just sunshine, and regular H2O2 no oxy powder added. Also, some items might take 2 or 3 days to get the best results.
Restore It honestly that’s how I figured it out. My previous adhesive job failed after a few months and literally said fuck it. It turned out surprisingly good and was super easy. Lol
Restore It neat stuff, I can see that being helpful for big cracks. My cracks were still really stiff together and I was able to bead up some of the original plastic around into the crack to pack it in. You should try that out but instead of buying that expensive kit try using a zip tie as a rod and stack some plastic dimes.
I've always wondered if retrobright works on car plastic since its much softer and thinner. Might be worth trying to give it the original clean plastic if it works.
Yes blue, great minds think alike. I have ordered some so we'll see. but I think... especially with the coolant tank, they are just yellowed the whole way through the piece, its not just surface... but who knows, I'll give it a go. Cheers!

The videos I've seen they use a f ton of uv lights, top and around, the other I've seen is from 8bit guy where he just leaves it in the sun with hydrogen peroxide and it seems to do the same. Probably way more powerful then UV lights you can buy, especially in Spain it's constant sun.
If you want to save some of those non-load bearing and non-flexing plastics; get yourself some Fiberglass sheeting and resin. Will take you to block it down till it's perfect for paint; but it'll save you money in the long run.
I need someones opinion do you think it would be a good idea to buy an e36 m3 that hasn't moved in forever as my first project car it will probably be the cheapest one in the world and its local to me. I know how to work on cars and im just looking for advice
100% go for it. I bought the touring online, sight unseen, non runner for 6 years, sat in a field... anything is fixable Bob. Seems like it will be cheap enough to learn on and a great thing to have if and when you finish it. Do it.
Have you checked out how PC restorers whiten old PC cases? One channel, Adrian's Digital Basement showed how he did it on an old PC using a hair product to do it. It came out to almost the original white.
Have you ever thought of restoring an industrial machine? like one of our concrete block making machines? we have some really old plants maybe for your next project we can do something like that. you can see our machines in my channel

I don’t think a fluorescent black light puts out enough UV in the effective wavelength to perform whitening. (Doesn’t work for a lot of photosensitive applications.) 360-400nm wavelength is not as visible to the human eye and is really the bandwidth where the whitening action occurs. You can get UV LED strip within these specifications for cheap. Try again - would be really cool to see it work!

I believe acid would remove the rust / lime scale stains from the header tank and wash bottle.
For scuff marks I HIGHLY recommend baking soda and water!!
when it comes to cracked plastic panels i use a soldering iron to melt/tac them together from the back side.
I was going to try this.. but I go really fed up with the adhesive haha. Maybe i'll revisit them.

Use acid to re new the plastic tanks. There's a video on youtube where a guy put acid in the plastic tanks and they came out brand new!
