And not just Harry Potter. All kinds of earthly influences are apparently tainted by Satan. Role playing games, songs on the radio, television shows, films, books and much more.
If you've ever been forbidden to watch a favorite show, read a beloved paperback or buy music from a favorite band because your religious family and culture featured demonic influence, tell us all about it.

True story- Several years ago, I was working in a medical office, and I was assisting this young girl, I think she was around 9 years old? She was really curious about where I came from in England, and to give her a frame of reference, I said, "Well, you know the Hogwarts castle in the Harry Potter movies?" She and her mother both stared at me like I was the Devil, and she shook her little head and said, "Those books are wicked, they bring evil spirits into your house!" I was kind of dumbfounded, so I looked at her mother. Her mother explained to me that she was running for the Superintendent of Schools, and if elected, she would have every copy removed from the libraries and destroyed (I never found out if she actually won, by the way).
So, I'm relaying this story to my older sister, who lives in a very liberal part of south Florida. She told me that her next door neighbor is the Headmaster of some private school there, and he recently hosted a- get this- book burning! in his backyard. All of his students were invited over, to throw their Harry Potter books on the barbeque grill! And I'm thinking, THIS is the 21st century??

I am sooo glad that my family allways cherrished knowledge and freedom of choice above anything else. And had enough sense to realize, that modern fairytales like Harry Potter are no more harmfull then Red ridinghood was. Sure my grandparents and aunt were horrified, when they heard that I read the "Satanic Bible" from Anton LaVey, BUT they did not shun me for it, and my uncle and my mother had my back, telling them, that they should leave me seek any kind of knowledge, and that actually befire they judge about this book, they should either listen to what I got out of it, or read it themselves. What these people are doing to there children by declaring any kind of knowledge as evil or harmful is from my point of view child abuse. It poisons the mind of children, hinders them to grow and learn.

With biblical rage I hate religion and the soulless cretins who perpetuate this ultimate evil. My mother died terrified convinced that she was on her way to infinite suffering. Thank You christians, I wish I could believe in hell because I like to think of you there.

+Defaultdan97 Bad idea... if we#ve got the book of blood and blunders we can point out where, how and why they are messed up in their thinking.... If they have to return to poisoning kid's minds by word of mouth we'll no longer have any way to intervene with logic, as it will even more turn into "what i feel in my heart to be god's truth".
Instead schools should have from first grade on a comparative religion class showing how all of these superstitions teach bad morals and incredible stupidity, how none of them is any way better than the rest and how it came into this situation through millenia of manipulation, lies and blatant grabs for power by the "holy" people. And it should be a mandatory if you fail you cannot pass the year course and the personnnel teaching it needs to have passed it too before being able to enter a classroom.
Everybody is entitled to their own beliefs, but schools are mandated to teach the truth, be neutral to all religions and worldviews and not to bow down into indoctrinating the kids into any one of the many competing sects of this world.

Book burning isn't OK. Even if it is the Bible. The Bible can be respected as mythology and literature. I would rather burn the ignoramuses who burn books than burn books. I would have killed millions without hesitation if that's what it would have taken to save the Great Library of Alexandria.
I guess you could say I value knowledge and culture more than I value human life.

Of course Harry Potter is of the devil. JK Rowling's novels got kids reading, and that means kids will become literate and realize the Bible is a story, nothing more.
Concerning D&D, I've been playing for 20+ years. When I was 14, my buddy's mom (who is very religious but a wonderful lady) walked into the kitchen where we were playing and sprinkled us with holy water. It didn't burn.

Harry Potter is symbolic and biblical. J.K. Rowling is a christian herself.
Dumbledore represents God. He is wisdom, - an old guy with a long beard- and courage. And at some moment, it's not really clear if Dumbledore is really the good guy, since stories about his past are shared.
Harry is hurt, but he still follows Dumbledore's path and let's Dumbledore guide him in his life.
Dumbledore knows Harry needs to die, so that evil can be destroyed forever. He also dies himself for this.
Harry Potter represents Jesus. He died so that evil got destroyed and came back from the death, (Since only the 'bad' part in his body died, together with Voldemort, but that's too long to explain.)
Also, he follows Dumbledore, no matter if he might be wrong or he has no clue what's going to happen.
Peter Pettigrew represents Judas. He used to be friends with James and Lily, but betrayed them and later on, betrayed the rest as well. He keeps betraying everyone, the bad guys and the good guys.
Voldermort represents the devil/evil in all sorts. He has a lot of bad followers, that are all very sad or hurt in their lifes and therefore, want to take revenge on the happy people.
He loves to hurt and scare people and can't stand people loving each other. Since he was never loved and his soul is only 0/8th of what it used to be.
On the other hand, Harry Potter contains scary moments, which christians might not like. Voldermort, the face of pure evil, kills an innocent unicorn.
A doppelgänger who is part of Voldermorts crew, trying to invade the school, is undercover as a teacher and trying to teach black magic to the kids. He tortures a spider and eventually kills it, in front of one of the kids who's parents died at the hands of Voldermort. This is sadistic and they eventually find out that he's the bad guy, so they put him in prison.
There áre mermaids and ghosts (nice ones) and certain spells, but they are fighting to prevent evil things from happening even if they have to die for it. They are basically telling the bible story, with magic.

I’m just this week reading and watching Harry Potter for the first time. In high school I was the only kid who was absent from class during English when Harry Potter was read. We thought I was a real crusader for Jesus. Now I’m pissed because im getting started on the 20th anniversary edition of Harry Potter and most TH-cam videos have told me what happens to Dumbledore and how Voldemort gets killed. I’m pissed that I missed the show. Well my husband has the first printing of all the books and gave them to me and I am getting back what I was denied for 20 years.

No, I could eat sugary cereal, but lucky charms was off limits because of the "charms" and "charms" were not biblical and thus pagan witchcraft not of God and therefore lucky charms cereal was full of evil spirits. They couldn't even wear charm bracelets because they were apparently pagan and evil. Funny how almost all of those friends are now drug addicts, and dropping out of high school while the parents who never forced religion on their kids ended up raising them to be the real christians.

My grandmother practically raised me. When I was very small she told me stories of fairies and elfs and gnomes and dwarves who live in mud houses and toad stools - the kind of stories you tell little girls who play in the garden. One day she gave me this incredible book - How to Find Flower Fairies. It was a hand drawn pop up book with enormous scenes of forests and gardens and ponds with fairies hiding behind large leaves and secret doors. My imagination went wild. I loved and cherished that book.
I lived with my mother at the time, and she got ahold of some or other DVD that told her anything magical or fantastical was evil. So, gone was her beautiful iron and crystal dragon statues, gone were most of my movies and games, gone were my sisters yugio cards, and gone was my fairy book. It laid in a large plastic bin on a piece of land, in the wind and sun and rain, for weeks until the dump truck could get it... The thought of it still makes me sick...
On the bright side, I hid away some other fairy books that my grandmother gave me. Theyre nothing like the book I lost, but I still cherish them. They're a happy reminder of the woman who taught me to be curious and who nurtured my imagination despite my mother.

Oh man, this hits so close to home that it's a bullseye. Harry Potter, Pokémon, rock music, hip hop, even pop music!, anime, movies, American cartoons, graphic t-shirts, skirts above the knee, open shoulders, money, riches, and just about everything not having to do with church or god was satanic. If I wanted to learn to play an instrument if it wasn't to eventually play it in church then it was satanic! Hell, when Pokémon go! came out we had a preacher who, on stage, went out and said that every Pokémon you catch is a demon you let into your heart. I had to read the Harry Potter books in secret or my mom would have burned them even if they were library books.

This podcast reminded me of when I was growing up as a Baptist. Harry Potter was being read in my seventh grade Reading class and parents in the county were up in arms over its occult influence being required reading in a class. My own mother, a devout Baptist, just rolled her eyes and said if people couldn't tell a good book from evil, that was their issue. Well, it was also our church's, it turned out. A copy of HP: Philosopher's Stone/Sorcerer's Stone was donated to the Church Rummage Sale. We ended up buying it, because one of the organizers was going to take it out in the parking lot to burn it, so it couldn't lure children into the occult.

after my mom passed away, our little brother was really into Harry Potter and our father took the book from him because our aunt convinced him it was teaching witchcraft. Luckily they never burned books, so we found them later. 😆😆

Speaking of the fake $20 bills... I have worked as a server and bartender for quite a while now. One thing I have noticed is that people think if you work a job similar to either of those, that you are "unsaved." I ALWAYS get little bible tracts, sometimes in place of tips. One person left me one of those fake $20's in place of a tip and on the back it said "Disappointed? Jesus will never disappoint you." I immediately showed my coworkers and said "Huh, I think he already has" lol...

I was skimming through the radio stations several years ago, and I stopped to listen to a Christian broadcaster talk about how dangerous the Harry Potter books are. Just before I switched off the radio, the man asked "Why can't our children read something good and wholesome?" I believe he was referring to the Bible when he said that. And, you know what? We should give our kids copies of the Bible to read, because when it comes to good and wholesome nothing compares to a book that instructs us to kill disobedient children.

I remember going to a church retreat for a week in the mid 70s where they just pounded into us that modern music was sinful. I remember specifically that the song "Chevy Van" was sinful and encouraging us to have sex. I loved that song. LOL It was this kind of thinking, and some thinking and questioning on my part, that ultimately turned me away from the religion.

I remember when I was 12 in Sunday School where they played a clip of a show much like the "backwards rock is EVIL" show, and they were playing the solo from Kiss' "I love it loud" saying "Who knows what evil messages are held within..." That day the seeds of my atheism was planted. Best part - One of our teachers was the brother of the lead singer of April Wine, a fairly big rock band at the time. Don't know how he kept a straight face through the lesson.

Back then everything was satanic, Spiderman when he did his hand gesture to shoot web, the Chicago Bull's logo turned upside down, video games, the list goes on and on.
Looking back at it, I realize how absurd it was and how easily we as children were persuaded by others to do and think what they wanted.

I worked in a private book store in Tennessee in the early 90s and, among other duties, I was responsible for doing the window display. I always loved when “ Banned Books Week “ would come around. I’d get a list of famous titles in the Banned Books designation. There was a used bookstore down the pike and I would go there to get my selections. I would then take the books and make a pile in the back parking lot. I’d spray the books with some lighter fluid and set them on fire. I’d quickly extinguish the fire and then take them to arrange a display . Now, I was careful to avoid burning the titles on the spine of the books, so they could be seen in the display in the window. I would make flames out of construction paper and put in the back of the display. Now I carefully placed on the bottom of the pile a copy of the Bible, which has long been considered by some traditions of being inappropriate for popular consumption by lay readers. I was always a bit worried I’d get fired if this ever became known. Yet I got nothing but praise for the creativity in the displays. Now this was in the buckle of the Bible Belt, but maybe I got by because this was in a college town. I never told my boss and that was okay with me.

On the subject of backwards masking, I had the 12" extended version of "Hole in my Shoe" by Neil, and it ended with a big crescendo spoofing the Beatles' "A Day in the Life", complete with the sustained piano crash at the end which lasted several minutes. +William Peterson To claim that it champions witchcraft is hilarious anyway. The magic in Harry Potter is never ascribed to any rituals or told to stem from any source like gods, demons or the female nature of the world.
It is no more devil worship or witchcraft, wikka or whatever you want than Halloween costumes or playing knights as kids makes you medieval worshippers.
The problem they DO have with such aspects of pop culture is that in the eyes of impressionable kids they are so much more exciting and fascinating than the eversame old boring bible stories and moralistic tales... You are not meant to invest any time or energy into being enthusiastic over such stuff when you could sit in bible lessons or sunday school and learn of the Jesus and how he loves you and needs your undivided attention.

I am always dumbfounded that anyone who is aware of the world around them and any kind of history would think religion is harmless.
