- This is an audio-visual "slide show" produced by the United States Navy in 1962 highlighting the equipment, mission and capabilities of the latest Charles F. Adams class guided missile destroyer, the USS Buchanan (DDG-14), which was commissioned on 7 February 1962.
In particular, the operation of the Integrated Weapons Systems is described in some detail, using a simulated tactical threat in which a tartar missile release is employed to address the threat.
The presentation is rather dry, but interesting in providing a glimpse into what was considered high technology for weapons systems 60 years ago.
The narrator's voice is somewhat garbled when the background sounds of the CIC and pilot house are added to the simulation scenario.
While highlighting the USS Buchanan, the presentation is applicable to many of the Charles F. Adams class DDGs. In fact, some of the photos are not of Buchanan personnel, such as the Commanding Officer.
As a reference to the popular jingle for the Philip Morris "Commander" cigarette in the early 1960s, the last slide includes the phrase "Have a Commander, Welcome Aboard".
The original slides and audio tape used in creating this .mp4 file were provided to Commander David A. Webster, Buchanan's first skipper, during his command of the Buchanan from February 1962 to August 1963. - วิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี

USS Buchanan DDG-14, l enjoyed serving on this type class destroyer. Sister ship was the USS Berkeley DDG-15 where I was aboard during Operation Linebacker, 1972. That was great duty. Now 52 years later, still think of those times. San Diego 2024, love it here. 7:17

I support this content.
I was an FTG who manned the TSTC for hundreds of hours. The comment at the end of the video is apt… not in real time. Actually, the whole sequence is unrealistic.
