Wow just wow! I can honestly say that this is the first time in my life that furniture has given me chills! That purple/violet table (and honestly all of his work) is absolutely stunning! When you consider the amount of time, talent, craftsmanship, materials, labor, overhead, employee wages etc. that goes into these types of projects, I think the price is absolutely worth it. The people buying his work aren't just purchasing furniture; they're getting a conversation piece, a keepsake, an heirloom and most importantly a breathtaking piece of functional art!
G'day from Australia mate, I watched a couple of your videos and found them very informative, I am a back yard wood worker making small cheese boards to coffee tables and have been doing this for about six years now. Most of the material I use have been scrap materials occasionally buying some timber, I found out that the pricing side of this was challenging, though I didn't price it to high some people would still want it cheaper. But the good thing is that I have alot of repeat customers who love the product that I'm churning out. Always coming up with new ideas for my stuff. Keep up the good work cheers mate from the land down under 👍😊🇦🇺
Some times you have to take a risk on new type of content. And some times it pays off. Really well put together, great interview skill, and well edited despite having a new atmosphere compared to your usual content. Hats off
Nice to see a successful Canadian selling to global markets. I am an extreme hobbyist myself. Started with a saw mill years ago for fun. Now have two of them and mass amount of equipment. It’s a cool thing to see.
A live Q&A would have been great with him Morley. Maybe next time. Looking forward to your upcoming pallet builds. Love the stream. Greetings from Ireland.
I kinda like this style of videos, one suggestion; these types of videos, don't just do wood, there are many makers out there who are not doing wood but are making incredible things.
Being from Canada I recognize some of this guys products in Gravenhurst and Orillia. Like I just saw a classic VW van art piece which is on the main strip of Orillias town
Great interview! I really like the shirt of one of David's guy (Hourly rate). If a customer is talking about the price before talking about the project, its often a red flag that you don't want that customer.
The best advice I have for anyone who is wanting to start their own company. Is to make sure it is something that you truly love doing. If you don't love it, then all the long days making little if any money will break you. That is often the difference between the people who keep going and those who give up on that dream. The next thing you need to do is to pay yourself a salary and legally separate the business from yourself. These last two things protect you more than you and your family more than I can explain here.
I agree with his comment on having a workplace where all the guys like working with each other. Back in the 90's when I was GM of safety grating company, who ever I was going to hire was told that the shop crew had the last vote on whether they stick with the company or not. The worst thing you can do is hire the wrong people and end up creating more problems than you had before you started.
Really nice conversation, Morley. Obviously a big departure from your normal style of videos but this was really interesting, and you kept me interested in basically just a conversation between 2 people sitting at a table for 20 minutes. Props for the shout-out to Justin for HIS videos, which are a very different style from this, I think with you, it makes sense to see you in the video expressing your opinions and asking questions from the perspectives of someone who is looking up to someone more experienced, while Justin’s perspective is more that of a pure documentarian.
This was such a brilliant video! I have recently been thinking of becoming a carpenter's apprentice and listening to your conversation made me feel like it is the right thing to do, hopefully I can make it a reality. Great video as always Morley :)
I’m super late to the video but I like the part where you talked about your fiancé saying you need to decide whether or not is a successful project before you put it out and it reminded me of a quote from Rick Rubin when he said something along the lines off, you make are for yourself. You do it so YOU like it and then you put it out. Those who understand you will love it. And those who don’t won’t affect you because you did that piece for you. Not for them.
Since I found your channel I have watched all of them. I can't think of a single one where I would tell you to change anything. Content, camera work, editing. Nope, nothing comes to mind. I think your approach to creating stuff is very similar to how I make my little projects. You should stick to your guns. Anyone who negatively comments should make their TH-cam channel. Please continue the way you are. This video was great. I could never imagine owning one of David's pieces. But I can appreciate his work. Epoxy (resin) and wood are not my aesthetic. Pure wood is my choice.
Love your passion and woodworking ability. Also love that reverse psychology. "I'm gonna ask for subscribers by saying that is what i usually do, but I'm not doing that right now". Honestly If people like your content, they are gonna like and subscribe whether you ask them to or not. And it's not even your content that gets subscribers, it is really tour personality that people subscribe to. That's kind of a basic fundamental of TH-cam. If people are attracted to your personality, you are going to get views and subs and likes almost regardless of they type of content you make.
hey Morley, lets say you are wanting to reproduce something in 3d.. like for instance a plastic tail light housing.. full of curves some of which transition from large radius to a smaller radius etc etc.. what tool would you use (short of a 3d scanner) to get accurate measurements on what the radii are?
Fair price, he hit the nail on the head! You can be a phenomenal craftsman, but if you have ridiculous prices 99% of items wont sell. Ive known a few people that did amazing work but had horrible people skills or stupid prices and thats what killed their business
Super cool! This is half hour south of me, never would have known about it! Love your content man! If you ever want to incorporate real stone into your content let me know! We have a stone processing facility just north of Huntsville!
Great video! amazing work from them and very high quality as well! just a random question with this as well. any reason you normally only use a single pallet instead of waiting to get like 2 pallets and make a bigger piece? Thanks for the amazing content Morley!
Thank you! No real reason so far other than finding 1 good pallet at a time, and the unique challenge of making something out of a single pallet. No objections to making stuff out of multiple pallets in the future!
I've built pieces for celebrities and the people they aspire to be. I just finished a table in excess of 60k us and I'm doing more as I write...built a six figure jewelry box in a Ming dynasty temple style in excess of six figures that the client willed back to me upon their passing...point being it's all good people I'm grateful thankful.....I should start a channel as well....
An honest, not negative observation: reduce the use of the word "like". As you must control your hands while making furniture, control your word choices.
It's insane, to think that anyone would allow some random stranger, on a social media platform, to have a strong influence upon them, based off of that strangers comment. Unless I know 100% for sure who that person is, like some amazing wood worker/artist/musician, and their comment is positive, and "guiding"....I just try to laugh at the insulting comments, or people who just automatically turn to being an asshole. Social media platforms can be very toxic....and just having a decent conversation with someone is rewarding.
Not to sound odd but honest? Those are rounds or slabs then like gallons and gallons of epoxy poured over it then whittled down shaped , legs attached & sold? My question or statement is your not a carpenter, or woodworker you are an artist? I mean great for you best of luck! I am a carpenter and I seen his shop in a glance and knew immediately not a carpenter! His house he did not build! His shop he did not build! Why do these epoxy table makers have to claim to be woodworkers of carpenters ???? You are not sir ! You make tons of money as an artist which is really great ! Let that be good enough ! I am not calling you to my home to make custom cabinets , hang my crown molding, make , and hang me a custom door ? In fact it’s ok my friend your not a carpenter! Enjoy your gold mine! Just don’t claim to be a woodworker or carpenter! Plus the guy doing the interview does not know the difference anyway!
I mean… he works with wood. Carpenter you can debate but he definitly is a woodworker. Can’t really argue against that since he builds furniture using wood as the main material and makes a living out of it. Doesn’t matter if he built his shop or house.

I dont need defend myself and our company because our work speaks for itself. We’ve been a viable woodworking company for over 25 years. I am also a registered Terion home builder. We did in fact build my house and shop. All of my doors we built, Years ago we mainly built kitchens but we’ve evolved as a business and enjoy the excitement of one of a kind pieces. Cabinets and crown are the most basic form of carpentry, so yes, I suppose we are artists first. That’s what makes us so desirable. My entire staff has spent the better part of their lives in the carpentry trade. Some of our employees have their red seal, others have decades of practical experience. You make a lot of assumptions without any knowledge beyond this interview . The majority of what we build is solid wood furniture for interior design firms around the world. Most of what we share these days is resin work, because people enjoy seeing it. Good luck to you in your business. I hope you are able to find the success we have worked so hard to achieve

"Art", the ability to overcharge stupid people with too much money! When you get materials for free and then expect to be able to charge as if you paid for it is part of the problem, that makes people feel like they are getting ripped off! Also, if you put you stuff out there on social media expecting to make money off of the people supporting the channel by subscribing and liking and sharing, then you have to be willing to take criticism as well as the compliments!
My friend the Ferrari versus Corvette analogy is actually wrong now the Corvette is a much better much more bad a** car than Ferrari has ever wanted to be and the price can go well over most ferraris
Really enjoyed doing this with your Morley. Great work putting this together. You are a man of many talents

Of course someone from the Toronto area would think they are in the middle of Canada. lol
This guy reminds a lot of Pete Martell from Twin Peaks
This is awesome keep up he good work🙂
Middle of Canada? You must have moved to Manitoba. Even Quebec is closer to the middle than Ontario.
Are you gonna do more pallet builds
Yes!
Yay
