11:42 ever heard the woodworking phrase “measure twice, cut once” ? Maybe you should apply the phrase “check twice, print once” to your 3D printing endeavours
The important thing with resin to optimize your time is to fill out the build plate. With resin printing one model or 20 models on the plate takes the same amount of time. This table was probably too big for that, but for future projects it's a good tip to remember.
Awesome project! Instead of quick epoxy or CA glue you can actually use the resin you printed with as the adheasive. You just need to have a small blue light pen to activate the uv resin. Then you get a perfect match to what ever you’re printing
Aside from some of the jank at the joints, this is incredible! Some improvements I'd make would be to print the branch parts as slightly hollow to act as optical channels, and mount LEDs in the fingers of the base. I'd also include some LEDs in the void at the base of the model and mount a battery pack/control board, then cast that into the base with an opaque epoxy. Also, I know you were sponsored and they provided you the printer, but this is also the exact size/scale that paying a 3D printing company to do it for you makes sense. The joints would line up more accurately and the quality of the print would be better, all for probably a substantially-less amount of money than to do it yourself.
You literally make the coolest videos. I love your projects so much. You are extremely talented! Side note - I got into wood working because of you after years of wanting to. Thanx for the push I needed to try something new that I now really enjoy. You have literally improved my quality of life.
Your execution is solid, but I’ve noticed that in almost every video, there’s always something that gets shimmed or patched up, like the base this time. Instead of reprinting the other half, you glued it and shimmed it, which, honestly, was tough to watch. I get why you did it-technically, it doesn’t matter, especially for a TH-cam video. But it reminded me of a story from the Steve Jobs biography where Paul Jobs (Steve’s father) taught him that the difference between a good carpenter and a great one is that the great one uses good wood even for the back of the wardrobe, where no one will see it, simply because he knows it’s there. That mindset really stuck with me, and now I aim for perfection, even when it seems like it doesn’t matter. Please don’t take this the wrong way-I think you're doing incredible work. It’s always easier to critique someone else, and I’ve been guilty of taking shortcuts myself. I’m sharing this because I love your channel, and I believe you have the potential to raise the bar even higher. Thanks for all that you do!
Morley, I can't believe the quality of work you put into your projects! I Do have a suggestion about what you could've done to have the full size table you originally wanted without waiting days for printing. There are plenty of online services that will print a model you supply to them with the settings of your choice. Doing that would have saved lots of time at the cost of paying their price, but it's worth looking into.
This was a GREAT video bro! And congrats on the upcoming nuptials. Pro-tip on being a married man... the wife is always right. You got lucky this time that the table didn't break, but 99 times out of 100, when the wife says "you probably shouldn't do that..." - she's right. Doesn't work for fiances or girlfriends, but somehow, it's always right for moms and wives. Enjoy
Exquisitely designed and functional too. I would definitely love to have this beautiful piece in my home. Your cat is adorable. Wishing you every happiness for your forthcoming wedding. 😊
To be fair, that first white 3D printed connector is pretty elegant. It's minimal and seems to do the job well. But yours has tons of originality, love the concept! Also, congrats on the wedding,I've got mine coming up in Sept :)
that second stump you scanned I could see being an epic wine cooler :D, also, something I picked up watching other videos, if you use UV activated resin to stick the resin parts together then shine a UV torch on it, you'll get the best results.
What an incredible project, i love the process you showed and how you ended up with the tree. The cake stand, which is what it is now 😂 (welcome to married life), looks incredible and i think you're right with some under lighting would take it to the next level. Great job Morley 👏
Cool project! and I love the new 3D printer. One thought: Could you use the transparent resin to glue everything together and a handheld UV light to cure in place? This would be difficult with opaque parts, but since it is transparent, I think clear resin might work instead f epoxy or CA glue, and the color would match perfectly.
for adhesive 3d Gloop is the best option for sticking 3d prints together, I was hooked on CA then got some Gloop, it works the Best by far! I am not a sponsor and am in no way connected to Gloop except I buy a lot for use with big projects that are 3d printed. Give it a shot, you will not be dissapointed.
Okay so three things. 1, what an incredible idea and execution. 2, You managed to deal with Fusion360 and how it deals with meshes!! I've tried and never had any luck with any part of it. 3, Eden's new haircut is amazing:)
@@MorleyKert Hey Morley, can you give a bit of an insight what kind of specs your pc is running? My mid-tier gaming rig is VERY prone to crashing when I try importing certain STL's
That table looks amazing that I really want to see you print more furniture using organic shapes :) Regarding print time, I thought that UV resin printers time is defined by height, given a single layer is printed all at once? Also, UltraCradt Reflex has a printing speed of 27mm/h, so in theory you should be able to print a 220mm object in ~ 8 hours.
cool vid, If you want to address something like poly cam correctly though it’s technically called photogrammetry. Not an active 3d scanner but it does seem like it.
I had a thought. Couldn't you print the tree, but print it hollowed out so it's basically just a shell? Then, you could use the print as a mould and fill it with resin. Once it cured, you could strip/cut away the 3d printed mould and be left with a solid resin base.
@@MorleyKert I was thinking you could've done that with your fast FDM printer, and you probably would have been able to print the tree at its original scale without wasting too much filament! That might be a cool future project! I loved how you were able to scan a real life object and turn it into a 3d printable object!
I think its cooler transparent. But i would have rotated the parts so it use less support (if the print area is wide enough maybe it woldnt mean more parts to print) If it holds a man in this orientation, i guess it would have been fine with such layer orientation strength wise... But could be that SLA cant handle "fat layers" as well as FDM
@MorleyKert yeah fusion is a bit messy with those... afterall great work I really liked it ! I should give myself a try scanning something and printing it !
This is a really cool project and just the sort of thing that I love 3d printing for. You really should get your printer on a UPS. I use a server grade UPS I salvaged years ago and it'll keep running the printer for well over an hour if the power goes out. I've never had a failed print due to power issues. The scanning app is really cool but I am SOOOO incredibly sick of companies like this making apps for only iphones. For ethical reasons I just cannot get involved with apple products. I used to work in the IT industry way back when and had the (dis)pleasure of meeting Steve Jobs first hand. Why any company would intentionally ignore such a massive market as those of us with android phones baffles me but I guess they just don't like money. I'd happily pay for an app that does what I saw this one do if it worked fully with android.
@@MorleyKert Very interesting. Thank you. TBH I just gave up looking after everything I found that had good reviews was ios only. I'll give polycam a try. Greatly appreciated. :)
Thank you 🙏 I bet this would also look great in white PLA on one of your FDM machines - your furniture design is really coming along, this is really original work 👌
I thought the printer automatically sends the right curing time to the curing thingy ? How come you needed to give it sun spa treatment ? I know NOTHING about resin printing lol
Man, that Heygears printer is a beast, but it's also nearly 3000 euro... That's not consumer level stuff anymore, well beyond what most people want to spend on a hobby and it kinda baffles me that they keep pushing that thing through youtube sponsorships. Also, please, PLEASE wear a mask when filing or sanding resin, you really, REALLY don't want that stuff in your lungs!

Loved the video, but I have one small gripe...your "vinyl stop" sound effect was quite distracting because it was way louder than the rest of the video...I'd recommend dropping these effect levels or normalizing the audio so it's not so jarring. Sorry to be a downer in the comment section; loved seeing the project come together (as well as a non-messy polygon mesh. I know those meshes can be frustrating to work with). Cheers!

If you're looking for ultra transparent resin prints, give the floor polish trick a try! Apparently it produces some really good results.
buy a bambu p1s, print speeds are off the charts! I went from a Creality CR-10S to a Bambu P1S and was amazed at how far the tech had jumped.
You have a BambuLab X1!!! Resin printing is for smaller detailed items not furniture!

Why if you use the organic supports as the tree design?
have a 3d PHOT under the minimal pieces you need that MATCH the tree stand you are trying to make.

Morley Kert, going where no one has gone before.
Hippoty hoppity I’m stealing your intellectual property
