    Out of all the announced games for this year, this game is my most anticipated game! I loved P5R and P4G, and I can't wait to see what they'll cook up in Metaphor! The story seems to be so wild and crazy, and the art of the game looks insane, like that Majora's Mask looking moon. And the combat, seemingly being both real time and turn based looks fun!

    This definitely has a lot of potential. I hadn't looked too hard into it since it is still a good ways off. But honestly I'm feeling pretty positive. Nothing like jumping into a pure fantasy setting. Yet they seem to be bringing some of the best elements of what they've built in the Persona series to this.
    If they can really make both the action and turn-based elements work then this could be a pretty perfect game for people.

    I really hope that, once the game is out, that people stop comparing it to Persona, sure there are some similarities, but it has a different name for a reason. Aside from making the connections that everybody does, it's annoying and goes nowhere, and I am really just talking about the people who can't shut up about Persona being better anyway, all the games have its strengths and weaknesses, so does Persona.

    • @mistandmako
      @mistandmako  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think it’s always going to be compared to Persona, at least by some people. It’s an easy comparison to make given the dev team and some of the gameplay similarities. I don’t think there’s necessarily anything wrong with making comparisons as long as we also recognize the unique characteristics of each game. So hopefully once Metaphor comes out people will be able to appreciate what makes it special and different rather than just boiling it down to Persona comparisons.

    5:25 Yes it is. Obviously exaggerated, but look at it from a presumably feudal society's standpoint.
    Modern day Earth is a really damn nice place. Sure, economically most people are vastly different, but when you look at that within each country or region, the difference is not too bad at all.
    Most rich people have twice or thrice the wealth of most poor people. Not a hundred thousand times. Sure, billionaires exist still, but it's a teeny tiny minority.
    Everyone has access to a lot of comforts unimaginable to a pre-industrial society. Hell, salt used to be as valuable as gold, and now they're giving it out for free at fast food restaurants. And most people have access to-what is to a peasant's standards-an incredible education system.
    And social equality is even more impressive. Even if you are the richest of the rich, you are not all that different from the people living paycheck-to-paycheck. You won't be beaten by the police for looking at Leonardo DiCaprio longer than 3 seconds, for example.
    You can totally go to the same school as Oprah's kids, as long as you can afford it. And you don't have to use a different bathroom from what people of other races use.

    • @mistandmako
      @mistandmako  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s an interesting perspective that I hadn’t considered. Older societies would look at all the progress we’ve made and be amazed by it. At the same time, for all the progress we’ve made things like war, racism, poverty etc are still ubiquitous in our modern society. If the story is going to be effective, I think Metaphor has to acknowledge that there’s no such thing as a perfect utopia and that there will always be work to be done in order to make the world a better place for everyone.

    I reeeaaaallllyyyy don’t get how people can complain so much about game time. The argument is maintaining captivity and interest….but you do know that you can just leave the game, play something else, and then COME BACK, right?
    I’ve done the same with practically every video game I’ve played. Most recently Final Fantasy VII, Horizon, and Persona 3 Reload…and I love how the system I have works because everytime I come back to a video game, I’m rested up from that “drag”, and am more than excited to continue playing again.
    Plus, why would you want a really good game to end so soon? Even if it is 120 hours long(currently at 185 or so for P3R and still not done btw…), I truly do not believe that “game time” is a viable and justified complaint.

    • @mistandmako
      @mistandmako  9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts!
      Everything you said is totally valid, but it sounds like you and I just enjoy games differently. I really don’t like taking breaks from games and coming back to them later, especially if they’re heavily story or character-driven. I tend to forget things or lose track of important story details. I’m going through this exact thing with Persona 3 Reload right now. I started playing it when it came out in February and got about 50 hours in, then I took a break when FF7 Rebirth came out. I’m finally getting back into P3 but instead of feeling rested up and excited to get back into it, I feel disconnected from the story and characters. I’m still enjoying the game and intend to finish it, but I think I would appreciate it more if I hadn’t taken such a long break from it.
      To be clear, nothing that I said in the video was intended as a complaint or criticism, just a personal preference. There are many 100+ hour games that I love (P5, FF7 Rebirth, Elden Ring, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, just to name a few recent-ish ones) but if I was able to choose my ideal length for a big RPG like this I’d probably want something closer to that 50-70 hour range. Still plenty of time to tell an interesting story and develop complex gameplay mechanics, but a bit more manageable to play through. It seems like a lot of people disagree with me and really value those longer experiences though, and that’s totally cool.

  • @RionAgrias
    @RionAgrias 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The length of the game is reliant on how long it takes to eliminate our corrupt political rivals since many are utilizing the tainted "ningen" or homo in English (the human enemies seen in the trailers), and discover that this "world" the novel describes in the 2017 teaser trailer is no utopia. Considering one of the key political rivals committed regicide in the beginning of the Dec. trailer and seems to have only, "How could he have done that?" as a repercussion. Basically, you're playing the 2024 elections, just killing goblins to make Euchronia great again.

      @mistandmako  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Lol I'll be the first to admit I have a very short attention span. I struggle to make it through a movie or even an episode of TV without reaching for my phone, so video games are really the only form of visual entertainment that can hold my attention for a sustained period of time. That said, there's an art to making a game that lasts just long enough to effectively tell a story and develop mechanics to their fullest potential. I think a lot of games (even really good ones) don't get that balance right and end up dragging a bit, so that's all I meant.

I’m currently like 10 hours into P3 Reload and it’s great but I’m already bored of grinding through Tartarus.

    Why dont devs take in some of these modders to specifically do the stuff they dont want to like adding the female protagonist from persona 3. Itd be a way to make everyone happy

      I’m super curious about Persona 6. With Hashino moving on to Metaphor, someone else will take over as director so I wonder if they’ll stick to the same formula that worked for the previous games or try a different direction.

    I played online games for most of my childhood, with rare single-players like CoD and Far Cry games. I have thousands upon thousands of hours in Siege, PUBG, CS GO, CS 1.6, HS, Dota 2 and many others, yet Atlus made offline games that captivated me for the first time ever. I liked socializing via gaming, as well as discovering new things about myself, akin to journey where I get to know real people. And Atlus gave a similar opportunity in an offline-package.
    I started with P4G, moved on to P5R, Strikers and Catherine, and each of them conveyed the same emotional growth I got from my long competetive adventures. They are fun, stunning visually, unbelievably stylish, and most of all show us some of the best characters in media period. While the games Atlus makes are not perfect, I still expect no less from them in Metaphor.
    By the way, amazing script, and the narration was on point.

    honestly was hoping action side could be the whole game if you decide. i get the tactics part...just a bit tired of turn based...

      I feel you. I have a lot of love in my heart for turn-based games but I do prefer action combat these days. Hopefully this can be a cool hybrid system that balances the best of both styles.

    Sorry but wishing a $60 game to be no longer than the staple of atlus is such a stupid fucking take...

      Hey, thank you for taking the time to comment! P3, P4G, and SMT5 all took me roughly 70-80 hours to finish, so P5’s length (~120 hours) feels like an outlier compared to other Atlus games I’ve played. Like I said in the video, I absolutely love P5 so I’m not inherently against super long games. But if I had the choice, I’d rather have something a bit shorter. I think that 70-80 hours is plenty of time to tell a deep story and develop complex gameplay mechanics.
      In regards to price, I think games justify their price tag with their quality, not their length. Resident Evil 2 Remake, for example, is maybe seven hours long on a first playthrough and it’s worth every penny I paid for it because it’s an excellent video game with tons of replay value.

    P5 treats you like a child with infinite free time.

      What do you mean infinite free time? P5 puts the same time constraints on you that P3 and P4 do.
