Yeah, agreed. I tend to think Autophagy for dummies is simply; ‘fast long enough for autophagy to start, smile, wait 4 hours, eat, repeat’ and leads to OMAD, fasting, and regularly eating 16:8.

No, the Vps34Beclin1Vps15 complex does NOT convert PIP2 to PIP3. That is the activity of Type I PI-3 Kinase, which is NOT required for autophagy. Vp34 is a type III PI-3 Kinase that converts PI to PI3P, phosphatidylinositol-3-phosphate. It is essential for autophagy, especially the fusion of autophagosomes with lysosomes.

Hey Aldi! Thanks for the comment! Yes, autophagy is known to fight viruses by way of "virophagy" (they can engulf and degrade them like they can with some bacteria). However, some viruses have found a way to use virophagy for their own purposes so that they can infect cells. Unfortunately, it does seem that HSV is one type of virus that can use autophagy to help propagate itself. Hope that helps :)

There is no need to torture yourself by starving. Polyphenols like Quercetin and Resveratrol are inducing autophagy, too! But also Vitamin K!
