The charge time for the Nissan Leaf is 21 to 32 hours at 220v. It drops to 1 to 1.5 hours at 440v. The biggest issue with electric cars is where do you charge them. Here in the UK, Tesla are the market leader in electric cars because they built their charging infrastructure first ahead of everyone else. Electric cars are a great idea if you can keep them charged. On a personal level, I dont care how spacious the car is I just want it to be cheap. I have used Uber in Nairobi and it was an excellent experience. I recommend it to anyone.
its not only the voltage that matters but current as well. 240V with 16A would take 21-32 hrs as you say but 240V with 32A you would get about 7kW which would mean 7-8 hrs for full charge. The 1st gen leaf charges at 3.3 kW with an option of 6.6 kW.
This is so nice. Electrical cars are in now and good to see Kenya adopting to new technology. Thanks for the info now I know which ones to take when I am in Nairobi
East African nations should actually get into Bio Diesel production and use the existing Technology and infrastructure that is already there it would create way more jobs from farmers to the ppl that produce the fuel and distribute it around the different states retail etc.
I love the fact that you took your time to do such an informative video, we appreciate that. It would be great to see manufacturers like Renault introduce their affordable yet practical cars like Zoe, this would really accelerate the uptake of the environmental friendly machines. The car Dominic is talking about I believe is the Hyundai Kona ev, great range but at a price only few would afford in Kenya. The GoK can also play a big role by scrapping off import taxes on such products. Good job bro, having wondering whether there's charging points for these vehicles in kenya. A little correction, it's electric car or electrics and not electronic or electrical
Great and insightful video as always. Keep it up. Just wondering, instead of even thinking of solar panels on the roof, maybe the car should have it own self-charging system: Have a small turbine connected to the engine so that as it moves, the turbine rotates and generates electricity even if low amounts so that the car can always have a reserve of about 30kms charge to avoid stalling on the road. Then the car can be charged in full using normal electricity when it is convenient for the driver. Remember a dynamo on a black mamba.
@@BarnabasKimani yes it use the induction motor of the car which is already strong, but only when going down slope ,slowing down/breaking,or being towed.you can get a good percentage depending on direction, distance, &inclination of slope.

It's not that environmental friendly, during the manufacturing process they use alot of coal and stones of dangerous gases are released to the environment.
