      When the Orioles do spend, it always bites us. Chris Davis, Albert Belle, Miguel Tejada wasn't stellar. He didn't exactly suck, but I think his production wasn't worth the money. I am not at all saying this should deter us, we just need to do better. Lol.

      @@therlowfoy9738 They're winning now, 2 months into the season. They have no legit 5th starter right now and 2-3 guys in that bullpen have been covering up for the mediocre to bad seasons from the rest of the 'pen. That ain't gonna work for a full season. Just because they have a good record right now doesn't mean you don't try to improve.

    Tyler wells has been very solid and bradish shows some signs of a potentially good starter. Our rotation so far has not been stellar but they’ve been getting it done so far. The main issue is we don’t have a true innings eater. We traded for Cole Irvin who was supposed to be that guy but after having a10+ era to start the season, he’s basically just been sitting in AAA with the exception of one brief bullpen appearance. We have potentially a good rotation in the making but ngl I wanna see some more aggressive moves to improve. We are literally good in every other facet and while the starters have gotten it done so far, their lack of going deep has caused fatigue in the bullpen. Action simply needs to be taken now to make this team fulfill its potential

    • @nickfraver5638

      Irvin has been doing well in AAA. 6-1, 3.21 ERA, 22Ks in 42IP, with a WHIP of 1.05. With Grayson being sent down it wouldn't surprise me if Irvin gets another shot

      @@darkwulf2k I think last year is about as good as it gets with kremer. Don’t get me wrong, that’s not at all bad, I just think the rotation is full of 4 level guys when we need at least a level 1, possibly a level 3 to boot.

    • @darkwulf2k
      @darkwulf2k ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davesravens47 I feel means is capable of being a 1, gibson is def a 2 at least, though in some ways pitching as a one. Wells has been pitching extremely well, outside of that last start vs the Yankees, and let's face it that Yank line up can make anyone look bad if your having an off day. A solid true 1 might be worth going for, but who can we snag that would be good enough from a team that will be willing to sell?

  • @myworms
    @myworms ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Sadly, no matter how strong your homegrown talent is, there’s a glass ceiling if you aren’t willing to spend on pitching.

  • @darkwulf2k
    @darkwulf2k ปีที่แล้ว +14

    I expect the O's to be buyers at the deadline. Just remember one of our best pitchers is still on the DL in John Means. Gibson, Means, Wells make for a strong trio, Kramer has had some really good outings, and had a nice streak of 3 where he only gave up like 2-3 runs total. Braddish has the potential, and if he ends up the worst of the pitchers, it's fine. He has shut down potent offenses like Houston's last year, so the stuff is there.

      John Angelo's is a joke. Wants the prestige of owning a team but doesnt want to put out for a winning franchise. He actually wants to move the team to Tenn. His dad never put money back into the team. And now he does the same thing. (Nothing) This young team is from the farm clubs. Watch when their initial contract runs out. Elias and Angelo's will trade out the good players for prospects that never turn out. I've been an O's fan since 1969. The Angelos dont care about the fans or the club. It's all about the money.

      Definitely. A month later and all this is happening. Gunnar will win ROTY. Josh Jung fractured his thumb on a double play yesterday and I could’ve seen him as Gunnar’s main competition. This is a special team and they’re going to get better when Mullins and Means come back (Mullins returning soon). I’m not saying they’re the absolute best team in the MLB, the Braves are obviously excellent, but they’re both the only S tier teams rn. Os are more than capable of beating any team in the league.

He has a good chance of being our ace in the future. I’ve always been 50/50 when it comes to this team spending money. Would it be nice to have a really good starting pitcher who we can rely on day in and day out? Yes. But, this is one of the best young cores that I’ve have seen in a long time. I don’t really like the idea of signing a big name free agent to a huge contract and have it eat up cap room for when we need to sign our young guys in the future. I have complete trust in Ellias so we’ll see what the future holds. Whatever it might be I can’t be more excited.

    Gibson has been great and everyone else is like watching a rollercoaster going up and down with every start. There are a lot of decisions that Elias will have to make, with Santander, Urias, Mateo, and Mountcastle being at the top of the list of decisions that need to be made. If Henderson is going to be the expected everyday 3rd baseman and Holliday is the SS of the future (2024), then the team needs to start making decisions that bring better bats into the lineup, via their prospects, while putting together some current roster players and a prospect or two for at least one starting pitcher. It's nice to want to have "gold glove" defense, but with all of the great defensive infielders in their system, they need to start getting the best bats into the lineup as well. With the massive position player depth that they have, they need to start capitalizing on that and also start making room for other guys to develop, while using that depth to get Starting pitching since Angelos doesn't want to spend in Free Agency, it seems.

    This has not aged well. The Os have clinched a spot, they’re leading the American League by two with a bakers dozen to go, and the pitching is heating up. They now have the chance to knock the Astros down into a WC spot. And they came from behind to force a split with the Rays while winning the tiebreaker over them. They’re primed to possibly do something magical. Oh and Gunnar is running away with the ROY. All with Bautista out with a UCL.

    While I love any video about my Orioles, I just gotta touch on one thing. You talk about Ryan mountcastle coming up in 2020, than skip to his 2022 season, completely ignoring that he had a solid 2021 season. He had 33 homers and a 114 ops+, which is not amazing, but is 14 points above league average. He’s a pull hitter, so once Camden yards moved the left field wall back, he saw a drop in production. I’ve seen videos showing some of his swings from 2022 that were pop ups, but would’ve been home runs the previous year. I have faith he will get there again. He’s still young, just like the rest of the guys. He’s only in his third full year. And he’s shown flashes of brilliance, I.e. his 2 home run (one being a grand slam) and 9 RBI night against Oakland. Just sayin, you can’t talk about him without acknowledging his 2021 season and the set back that is the left field wall for him. Other than that, I love the video.

I don't remember how much of his contract they paid and it was probably more of an attempt to draw fans. The Chris Davis contract stings. He was the best power hitter in baseball at the time, he was in phenomenal shape and was a great guy in general. Nobody could have foreseen him falling off like he did that fast. It is strange how they never make any attempt to go after top tier starting pitching. Thinking back, the last real Ace they had was who, Erik Bedard? Before that Mike Mussina?

      @@brandondillman5841 Erik bedard was only good for like 2-3 or years so I don’t fault them for using him as trade bait after all we ended up getting so much value back anyway. But yea I can’t remember a single ace pitcher being signed here. Like they just went to the clearance rack to find a diamond in the rough is about the most they would do to address pitching. We sure as hell have always had good bullpen guys though lol.

      @@davesravens47 We also can't develop starting pitching at all. Even guys like Jake Arrieta and Kevin Gausman who came up through the O's system weren't great until they went somewhere else. So far, DL Hall and GRod have struggled badly at the major league level. They need to figure out how to develop starting pitching if they ever hope to consistently compete.

    Should have seen that coming. So which starting pitchers should they have signed? deGrom? Rodon? If you're going to whine about the payroll. At least tell us who they should have spent money on. Most of the free agent SPs have been hurt or underperformed. But feel free to list off who you think someone else should have spent their money on. Feel free to cherry pick those pitchers who actually have pitched well. Hindsight is 20/20!

    Orioles payroll from 2012-2018: 80 (2012), 91 (2013), 107 (2014), 110 (2015), 147 (2016), 163 (2017), 143 (2018). They have a track record of increasing their payroll when they are winning over a period of time.
    I think they will gradually increase their payroll over the next 5-6 years in a similar way. If their payroll this year is 60-70 million, I think it will be around 90 next year, 105-110 in 2025, 135-145 in 2026, 155-165 in 2027 and 175-190 in 2028 before steadily staying around 185-195 in 2029 to 2034

      I'd be careful assuming they're going to spend like they did when Peter Angelos was in charge. His son is running the show now, and he said he wants to spend more like the Rays and Brewers going forward. I'll believe John Angelos is serious about winning when I see it.

    Yeah, they said they were opening the piggy bank, but only picked up Gibson. No one should have expected Means to be back this year. I also feel they are putting too much into young pitchers coming up and peforming like seasoned vets. Wells, Kramer, and Brandish are all middle of the rotation guys. They still don't have that ace. This team, as is, with DeGrom would the team to beat. If had to play a best of 7 and had to go through DeGrom, Gibson, Wells, and then either Kramer or Brandish...Yikes. I would also say Gibson has pitched better than expected.

    This was a pretty basic take, with no real analysis, and several mistakes as well. Santander was shown as one of the players the Orioles drafted and developed, when he was a Rule 5 pick. The video stated Mullins was the only Oriole to ever homer in his first game,. That is incorrect-Larry Hainey, Jonathan Schoop and Trey Mancini all did as well.
    Every Orioles fan knows Angelos only cares about profits, not winning pennants so that is hardly news. How about showing some examples of how the Orioles could have been "unstoppable"? Who should they have signed? Rodon? $30 million a year for six years and has yet to throw a pitch. Verlander? Vastly underperforming relative to his salary. DeGrom? $30 million plus and now out until 2025. If the Orioles had signed any one of those guys the fan base would be up in arms about how much money was wasted and how it will cripple the O"s financially for years.
    This was the visual equivalent of a high school book report written by reading the cover flap.

    Peter Angelos has sucked this team and city dry for long enough. The only good decision he's made in the last few years is Ellias and Hyde. Besides that get out of their eay and sign checks. What is like to see is a veteran presence in the locker room especially one with lots of playoff experience.
