    I didn't know the connection between Ecoboost and Mazda! The accent of Doug is hilarious. Cool video!

    There are big differences in Fords version of this engine The 2.3 Mustang and Focus RS engines have an open deck design in the block and that's why they have so many head gasket and coolant loss problems- The L3 turbo engine in the 3 MPS was a closed deck design meaning the top of the cylinder bores were supported and therefore never suffered from the Fords problems. The variable valve timing actuator is a Ford part and Gen 1 MPS's had problems with breakages of the mechanism. The rest of the engine is straight Mazda and as long as the oil and filter are religiously changed ( preferably at half the recommended service interval- I change mine every 3000 miles)- The engines are very reliable. The transmission is also very reliable.- I've a 2011 UK GEN 2 in velocity red and it's a total blast to drive and own. I haven't messed around with it, only changed the HPFPump internals and rear engine mount (Cobb) - So many people over modify these - once you go over 350BHP it starts to affect reliability and also shortens the life of the engine and transmission. I'm happy with 0-60mph in 6 seconds and 155mph top speed - I hate cars that are f*cked about with and become unreliable. Great video by the way!.

      I just have the same fuel internals and a Garret 3071 turbo and the screamer pipe that came with the kit. I don’t have a SRI or CAI because I’m not really convinced that they really help that much other than they look cool. I have a nice safe tune on it and the car runs fine . As far as MM are concerned I just replaced them with the stock MM’s because I didn’t want to deal with the vibration that the aftermarket MM’s do. I think you can push these motors to 400BHP if it’s done right and if you don’t beat the piss out of it they’re pretty reliable cars.

    I' ve not fitted this to my Gen2 MPS as there are reports of increased wear in selector fork pads and synchro hubs when these kits are installed. It's not a problem for me to leave it standard. So many people ruin these cars with mods that in the end make the car unreliable.

    Yes the Ford Ecoboost engines were derived from Mazda designs, Douglas is right

      Actually the MZR DISI 2.3 Turbo engine is more of a Ford development when they still held shares in Mazda, the mps is the last remnant of that marriage.. on the mps u can find many parts with the FoMoCo stamp (Ford Motor Company)

    The cobb rmm is a big mistake, during idle it shook my cabin so much I uninstalled it. It does make the shifts smoother but I found overall it wasnt worth it.

    • @DouglasRTan
      @DouglasRTan 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Bryne! I hear you man. the COBB RMM needs a "break in" period I found. That 85A dura rating wasn't too aggressive for me when new, they extra vibrations felt acceptable. But about 200+ km's after, once the bushing had "settled" in, the vibrations were significantly reduced.

    • @bryneg2664
      @bryneg2664 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DouglasRTan Yeah I did alot of research in forums and some people said the same thing, but with the AC on it still shakes after that especially in stop-go traffic. I'm back on the original RMM, no vibrations like stock, only the shifts during hard driving wont be as good as with the COBB.

    • @gbajien
      @gbajien 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve got semi solid side mounts and a SURE Motorsports rear engine mount, rattled like a race car for the first 500km and then settled in pretty well, the improvement in shifting and overall ‘feel’ when cornering and driving is something I wouldn’t give up for going back to stock… heck even during dynos my engine barely even rocks back & forth 😆😆
