Not “slightly de-tuned”. Semi-tones. Notes between notes. Only in the last few hundred years did we designate the A-G notes. Many cultures use notes in the middle. Check out their fretboards on their guitars.
I find that Gizzard is an album at a time band. Especially with the 2017 albums. Gumboot is definitely a more typical album, most of the songs being "leftovers" from the other albums, and still they're fantastic. Great Chain, down the drain, and all is known are so damn good.
I loved them at their psychodelic albums, but the Nest took my love to another level, since I personally come from heavier background. And how they nail it, the genre, each and every the time, wow

Headphone-wise, Sketches is also a lot of fun to listen to (again and again). My personal favorite is Polygondwanaland though. I love synths, so that album, as well as the song Cyboogie, are very much to my liking. The new album is great too! Butterfly 3000!!! (Best tune & lyrics: Catching Smoke)
I don't have a trained ear, exactly, but my guess is that the "slightly detuned" sound here involves some deliberate microtonality. I'm confident that they knew exactly which tones they were using. I think it's great that some "popular music" nowadays expands its musical palette beyond commonplace 12-tone equal temperament.

@@NewGoldenAgeOfTerra oddly enough, our 12 tone equal temperament is what's weird if you leave your traditional western music and do some traveling. In fact, the reason why Leo called it a "precision" bass was exactly that it could enforce standard western intervallic pitch structures so that everyone could play the same pitches and all work together using simple patterns instead of ear memory training so you can actually intonate your notes properly on a fretless instrument. Can you imagine if you give something with steps that don't work if you use them wrong to people who don't even want to spend an hour learning how the structure fits together? It's almost like we secured a small sequestration of music so we could sell more instruments and they all sound great together for the most part no matter who is banging on them lol Right now I'm trying to approach Konnakol without losing my mind. It's complicated af but if you can get it you've utilized neuroplasticity to improve the capabilities of your mind.
@@russellzauner Yes, I am aware. It's just a matter of cultural dominance, really. I fell in love with Indian classical music as a teenager, which uses an expanded tonal palette. I discovered Harry Partch and his wonderfully strange world of microtones in the 1980s. I have listened to everything from the microtonal pop of Brendan Byrnes and his projects to the 16-tone death metal of Ron Sword's band Last Sacrament and the 24-tone experimental metal (melded with serialism, which makes for a musical creative process and results that are about as strange as they can get) of Jute Gyte. I'm somewhat familiar with King Gizzard too, although I've heard only a small slice of their prolific output. I am subscribed to the Microtonal Guitar channel on YT and listen to it regularly. "What we need is" a YT reactor to microtonal music exclusively, just to help the average Western belle or bloke become more familiar with it.

The Gizz is definitely a deep dive in itself. They release albums at an incredible pace and basically every one sounds completely different to all the others, yet they all still have the band's signature sound which is essentially psychedelic, microtonal, prog rock/jazz/funk. Definitely check out Crumbling Castles, The River, People-Vultures, Automation, Mars For The Rich and I'm In Your Mind; some of my favs!
i feel like their early stuff wasnt as distinct release by release tbh, but it was all still good shit. I think they've really mastered the art of genre surfing since then though
To piggie back o0n thius while they cover a lot of ranges there a few albums that are sort of similar sonically and some others that are similar thematically and a little bit of crossover examples - I'm in Your Mind Fuzz, Nonagon Infinity, Murder of the Universe - All fit together nicely sonically and thematically and even the lp covers match Paper Mache Dream Balloon, Polygondwanaland, Fishing for Fishies - this ones more lose but polygon and fishies have this weaving crossover between more acoustic folkish sounds and electronics with varying levels gizzesque rocking and jazzy interludes etc. Flying Microtonal Banana, KG, and LW are all microtonal albums but that really is all that connects them, other than KG's tracklist rolliing right into LW's and then there's like 15 other albums that are also awesome.
King Gizzard is awesome dude. They have a really interesting take on multiple different genres of music. Would highly recommend listening to more of their stuff :)
I'm glad you're digging the microtones - King Gizzard uses 24 tone equal temperament (i.e. quarter tones) for their microtonal stuff. Their albums 'Flying Microtonal Banana' and 'K.G.' consist entirely of microtonal songs and there are a few other albums that feature 1 or 2 microtonal tracks as well. If you're looking for other bands that use microtonality, I'd check out Horse Lords, Brendan Byrnes, Methods Body, 75 Dollar Bill, and Altin Gun (only some songs).

I fell in love with KGATLW in 2017 when the YT algorithms sent Robot Stop my way and I have loved them dearly ever since. The sheer amount of musical styles they've touched on is staggering, from their early Garage/Surf Rock in Willoughby's Beach and 12 Bar Bruise, to the Summer of Love-esque acoustics of Paper Mâché Dream Balloon, to the rock/jazz fusion of Sketches of Brunswick East, to the straight thrash metal of Infest the Rats' Nest. I'd really love to see your breakdown on more King Gizzard songs in the future!
Yay! So glad you finally did king gizz. They're newest song, O.N.E., is IMO the best example of the KG "sound." But tracks such as Crumbling Castle, The River, Robot Stop and the Murder of the Universe album and countless more are phenomenal.

I spent a good part of the summer listening to their entire catalog through a broken stereo in the shed with only the right side speaker working... It reveals lots of hidden treasures in the mix that you wouldn't hear otherwise! It's crazy!!

Many other commenters agree. I would prefer the Inner Cell - Loyalty - Horology trilogy (10 minutes, 26 seconds). In an ideal world, Key would do all of Polygondwanaland. (Not just for us, but also because he's probably gonna enjoy that one more than any other album. It's sooo proggy, psychedelic and mystical.)
I echo what everyone else is saying, you gotta listen to a lot more King Gizz -- they have such a massive and varied discography. They have messed with what feels like just about every genre possible. "The River" or "Crumbling Castle" are some great tracks to listen to but you really can't go wrong. I also highly recommend their KEXP live performances (any of them, they are all perfect) -- as good as the albums are, I swear it gets better with their live performances. Great vid, thanks!

I hadn't heard of this band either. It's funny because I saw someone wear a t-shirt from the band LAST NIGHT and I had the thought to look them up. So this works out super well! I'm definitely gonna have to add this band to some playlists. They sound dope!
King Gizz is as badass a band as you can find out there right now! The Australian Psych scene is exploding right now and they are the front runners. Them, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Tame Impala really doing a lot for rock as a genre right now. King Gizz loves to give back though, releasing some of their stuff royalty-free and even starting their own record company (Flightless). Psychedelic Porn Crumpets also started their own label (What Reality?). It's a beautiful thing they have going on down there in Australia. Almost convinced to try and move there... almost. Song recommendations: Muddy Water, The River, Cyboogie, Superbug, Intrasport.

The problem with trying to review King Gizzard is that they change genre 4 times a year so it is hard to find something definitive. I personally think microtonal flying banana is their most unique work though so something off that album, like Rattlesnake, is worth checking out.
Real cool video! Their instruments arent detuned like you called it however, they are microtonally tuned so they have extra notes between some of the halfsteps.
If Not Know Then When is a single from their upcoming microtonal album (i think its gonna be called LW but im not sure) but they have two other microtonal albums that i can very much recommend. The first one is Flying Microtonal Banana and the second one is called KG. I would love to see some more reactions to King Gizzard in the future, especially the song Minimum Brain Size from KG. Its got some really juicy chord changes at times that i think youll like. Keep makin vids! You seem like a really nice guy and your videos are always a nice watch!

Fucking love this channel. Endlessly surprises me what bands he does, and I love how many ones that pop up. This was definitely a surprise as well, and I love that you did these guys, and can't wait for you to dive in more. As far as lofi psychedelic stuff, I would love to see an Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats reaction/breakdown, and feel they might be right up your alley, but a but heavier, still very oldschool sounding stuff, though. Without the lofi aspect, I think you would love some Dead Meadow, or All Them Witches. Both are just astounding and good feeling bands, and I would love to see more unique bands get recognition and more spread like King Gizz and Clowncore have from this channel, as well as many others Much appreciation and love, Geebs!

IMHO the Best thing about KGLTW is their albums post-2015 consist of the group exploring and mastering different musical concepts in the form of Albums. I watched these dudes at a free gig at my local pub in West Oz about 10 years ago. There was only about 10 of us at the pub that night, but we all had our minds blown. It was a real time warp hearing them live in a small venue.

Love how you keep hitting my current listening trends. I'm a power/math/prog guy at heart, but you definitely hit the nail on the head with this and Radiohead. Still hoping for some Dimmu Borgir, which definitely fits into the interesting mix of metal and orchestration, and the clean vocal sections will just shake you to your core!

Some background on King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard (also know as KGATLW) They are together for 11 years now and have released 16 full albums since 2012. 5 of which were released in 2017 only. They were a 7 piece band but their second drummer left the band in 2020 to focus more on flightless records. A record label started by the band where they release music from themselves and friends. 3 of the members do vocals over various songs and like these songs some of the songs dabble into microtonality. The band is mainly focused on psychedelic rock but they have ventured into garage, acid rock, prog rock and even thrash metal. And this might even be the craziest part: many of their releases are part of one story (or gizzverse as the fans have called it) The band has claimed they know where the story starts and where it will end but this is not really confirmed.
Man, PLEASE do one on Crumbling Castle, also by King Gizz. It's such a wonderful masterpiece. Some tidbits of info on them: -Until recently they had two drummers, and in at least one live show I've seen them watch each other's movements, it's wild. -They released FIVE albums in '17 (I think it was 17?) -This single is from an album coming this month that is the third in their endeavors in experimenting with microtones and such

I love that, at least I like to think I have a fairly broad range of music that I listen to. And you keep covering so many bands I love. You're channel is incredible and I love how you go deeper without going over my head with theory, but throw little bits of that in from time to time. It's truly a breath of fresh air for me as someone who is a passionate listener but lacks the knowledge of even attempting to identify what key or time signature a song is in. And I know it's probably been mentioned, but it's not actually slightly de-tuned instruments in this song, it's one of the many microtonal songs they have done with re-fretted instrument. And also to expand on their production style. Unlike a band like Tool (whom I love!) King Gizz is totally self produced, more of the "garage" style. "Warts and all." The benefit of that is that they are constantly releasing material. I mean, 5 full length albums in 1 year??? (2017) And you'd think it would be a lot of filler, maybe it's not all masterpiece work but it's not junk either. Love this band.
And let's talk about synchronicity. Not the Police song, which IS great. 😁 I work a manual labor job with a horn player who is married to a violin player. Constantly listening to them talk about theory and such. I think she has been involved with the Cleveland orchestra (my neck of the woods). I recently suggested this band to him after he mentioned microtonal music. Earlier today he sent me a text... "Good call on King Gizzard..." Which is why I got on TH-cam to give them yet another listen. And sure enough, here was your video with your first listen of the band. Synchronicity. Love it.
Actually, on this particular song it might be detuned because I'm not even sure how much actual guitar and bass are used. Either way. Flying Microtonal Banana. KGLW. Their 2 (so far) experiments with microtonality. But don't stop there.
As a (de)composer, I think you might have some interest in Buckethead. He's an incredible guitarist. Acoustic, electric, bass, banjo, you name it. If the instrument has strings, he has *mastered* it. If that doesn't intrigue you, here's some little background: Buckethead stared his professional career in 1987, he plays a wide range of genres. He performs mainly as a solo artist releasing over 300 albums to date, and has collaborated with production of over 50 albums by other artists. Most of his albums are called "Pikes", they generally ~30 minutes long each pike with songs being 1-2 minutes each, but intended to be listened as a whole pike as they seamless transition each other. One of my favourite pikes is Pike #52 (Factory), but you can choose pretty much any pike and be amazed. Some of his popular works are: - Soothsayer - Jordan (featured on one of the Guitar Hero games) - Welcome to Bucketheadland - Coma Buckethead truly knows how to invoke emotion using nothing but his guitar. Also worth noting that he was voted number 8 on GuitarOne magazine for the Top 10 Fastest Guitar Shreadders of All Time in 2008. In 2003, he was in the Guitar World's list of "25 all-time weirdest guitarists" and in 2011, Guitar World's list of "50 fastest guiarists of all time.

Every time I listen to a new one, I'm stick to it for almost 3 to 6 months before trying another one ! Next stop, Thee Oh Sees !
Key of Geebz, thanks man. I really appreciate your reactions. They are nothing like the thousands of others out there. I, like most of the cultists and fanboys commenting in your videos (yeah, I'm talking about Tool fans, but also others) search out reaction videos of music I (we) know and like.... and to those with insight into these kinds of things it's obvious, or transparent, if you will, the reason why we do it. Insecurity. What we're all trying to do is reaffirm our own thoughts and opinions. It's pathetic for sure, but not an uncommon behavior by any means. I'm not above admitting it, but I also don't like that about myself. What I am getting at it this: No one is coming here to learn anything or expand their musical horizons. The comments in the tool videos alone will clue you into that, as they embrace you into their fold as if you, a lifelong veteran of music creation, learning, and understanding, have ended your musical journey, and now you are home, at the doorstep of Tool (or whatever band it is) These reaction videos (regardless of creator) are sort of an echo chamber of their own kind. The song choices themselves are almost entirely recommended by the audience, for one thing. I'm guilty of it too, maybe not with specific bands, but certain types of music. I've been on a long and winding musical journey in my 40 years. Starting with bands like The Doors, Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, ect... because thats what my mom listened to, and ironically almost ending back up in the same spot, albeit the stuff that never made the radio from bands like Yes, Camel, King Crimson, Genesis, Rush, David Bowie, ect... somewhere in the middle was heavy metal, death metal, grunge, alternative, blues, jazz...a lot of stuff, at least, seemingly. After really digging into bands like Yes and King Crimson, and all the heavy hitters of prog rock, over the last 10 years or so, I became complacent (ignorant, more like). My journey was over. I actually told myself that I had found the best kind of music and that there were no new horizons to discover. ...until I found your channel. Your objective knowledge and insight into the composition of music is truly profound and even though I came here for the affirmation I talked about earlier (Tool song, not this video), you've made me realize just how little I know about music, and that my opinion of music is low in it's value, and diminutive in size, without that objective knowledge you posses. I don't want to just watch reaction videos of songs I've been listening to for 20 years anymore. I don't want to just reaffirm my opinions and coddle my insecurities. I want to better understand and appreciate an even broader range of music. I want to understand music more objectively. Watching you react to these videos, and your enthusiasm for music you've never even heard, has really inspired me to continue my musical journey. To challenge my sensibilities, and my ear. To realize that art appreciation will always be a work in progress, not some destination that I have arbitrarily decided, based on my limited knowledge. To put it bluntly, to cut through my own narcissism so, thanks. ..and this may sound corny or whatever, but after finding your videos a couple of months ago, I am a different person, and dare I say, a better person, even if by just a little bit. HELL YEAH!!!! I've been hoping you'd cover king gizz!!!! You need to check out the whole album polygondwanaland, but you can break it down into 4 sections (crumbling castle, the polygondwanaland trilogy, the horology trilogy, and the tetrachromacy trilogy). They released the album into the public domain and IMO it's one of their best. Definitely classic psychedelic mixed with some prog that you'd totally dig. A lot of the albums have tie-ins to different albums, and they genre hop a lot! If you want to go on a real trip, listen to murder of the universe. Another album that can be broken up into three parts, it really delves into story telling and gets hella nerdy in a way I think you'd love.

There is so much material and such a wide variety when it comes to King Gizz. Such a fun band. I'd love to see more. Something to check out in this vein would be "Rubber Bullies" by Tropical Fuck Storm. Or anything by All Them Witches.

I find that Gizzard is an album at a time band. Especially with the 2017 albums. Gumboot is definitely a more typical album, most of the songs being "leftovers" from the other albums, and still they're fantastic. Great Chain, down the drain, and all is known are so damn good.

I don't have a trained ear, exactly, but my guess is that the "slightly detuned" sound here involves some deliberate microtonality. I'm confident that they knew exactly which tones they were using. I think it's great that some "popular music" nowadays expands its musical palette beyond commonplace 12-tone equal temperament.

@@NewGoldenAgeOfTerra oddly enough, our 12 tone equal temperament is what's weird if you leave your traditional western music and do some traveling. In fact, the reason why Leo called it a "precision" bass was exactly that it could enforce standard western intervallic pitch structures so that everyone could play the same pitches and all work together using simple patterns instead of ear memory training so you can actually intonate your notes properly on a fretless instrument. Can you imagine if you give something with steps that don't work if you use them wrong to people who don't even want to spend an hour learning how the structure fits together? It's almost like we secured a small sequestration of music so we could sell more instruments and they all sound great together for the most part no matter who is banging on them lol

@@russellzauner Yes, I am aware. It's just a matter of cultural dominance, really. I fell in love with Indian classical music as a teenager, which uses an expanded tonal palette. I discovered Harry Partch and his wonderfully strange world of microtones in the 1980s. I have listened to everything from the microtonal pop of Brendan Byrnes and his projects to the 16-tone death metal of Ron Sword's band Last Sacrament and the 24-tone experimental metal (melded with serialism, which makes for a musical creative process and results that are about as strange as they can get) of Jute Gyte. I'm somewhat familiar with King Gizzard too, although I've heard only a small slice of their prolific output. I am subscribed to the Microtonal Guitar channel on YT and listen to it regularly. "What we need is" a YT reactor to microtonal music exclusively, just to help the average Western belle or bloke become more familiar with it.

King Gizzard is DEFINITELY a band you'll want to deep dive. There is a lot to discover and appreciate in their discography.

The Gizz is definitely a deep dive in itself. They release albums at an incredible pace and basically every one sounds completely different to all the others, yet they all still have the band's signature sound which is essentially psychedelic, microtonal, prog rock/jazz/funk. Definitely check out Crumbling Castles, The River, People-Vultures, Automation, Mars For The Rich and I'm In Your Mind; some of my favs!
i feel like their early stuff wasnt as distinct release by release tbh, but it was all still good shit. I think they've really mastered the art of genre surfing since then though
To piggie back o0n thius while they cover a lot of ranges there a few albums that are sort of similar sonically and some others that are similar thematically and a little bit of crossover examples -
I'm in Your Mind Fuzz, Nonagon Infinity, Murder of the Universe - All fit together nicely sonically and thematically and even the lp covers match
Paper Mache Dream Balloon, Polygondwanaland, Fishing for Fishies - this ones more lose but polygon and fishies have this weaving crossover between more acoustic folkish sounds and electronics with varying levels gizzesque rocking and jazzy interludes etc.
Flying Microtonal Banana, KG, and LW are all microtonal albums but that really is all that connects them, other than KG's tracklist rolliing right into LW's
and then there's like 15 other albums that are also awesome.

I'm glad you're digging the microtones - King Gizzard uses 24 tone equal temperament (i.e. quarter tones) for their microtonal stuff. Their albums 'Flying Microtonal Banana' and 'K.G.' consist entirely of microtonal songs and there are a few other albums that feature 1 or 2 microtonal tracks as well. If you're looking for other bands that use microtonality, I'd check out Horse Lords, Brendan Byrnes, Methods Body, 75 Dollar Bill, and Altin Gun (only some songs).

I fell in love with KGATLW in 2017 when the YT algorithms sent Robot Stop my way and I have loved them dearly ever since. The sheer amount of musical styles they've touched on is staggering, from their early Garage/Surf Rock in Willoughby's Beach and 12 Bar Bruise, to the Summer of Love-esque acoustics of Paper Mâché Dream Balloon, to the rock/jazz fusion of Sketches of Brunswick East, to the straight thrash metal of Infest the Rats' Nest. I echo what everyone else is saying, you gotta listen to a lot more King Gizz -- they have such a massive and varied discography. They have messed with what feels like just about every genre possible. "The River" or "Crumbling Castle" are some great tracks to listen to but you really can't go wrong. I also highly recommend their KEXP live performances (any of them, they are all perfect) -- as good as the albums are, I swear it gets better with their live performances.

King Gizz is as badass a band as you can find out there right now! The Australian Psych scene is exploding right now and they are the front runners. Them, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Tame Impala really doing a lot for rock as a genre right now. King Gizz loves to give back though, releasing some of their stuff royalty-free and even starting their own record company (Flightless). Psychedelic Porn Crumpets also started their own label (What Reality?). It's a beautiful thing they have going on down there in Australia. Almost convinced to try and move there... almost.

The problem with trying to review King Gizzard is that they change genre 4 times a year so it is hard to find something definitive. I personally think microtonal flying banana is their most unique work though so something off that album, like Rattlesnake, is worth checking out.

As far as lofi psychedelic stuff, I would love to see an Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats reaction/breakdown, and feel they might be right up your alley, but a but heavier, still very oldschool sounding stuff, though. Without the lofi aspect, I think you would love some Dead Meadow, or All Them Witches. Both are just astounding and good feeling bands, and I would love to see more unique bands get recognition and more spread like King Gizz and Clowncore have from this channel, as well as many others

Some background on King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard (also know as KGATLW)
They are together for 11 years now and have released 16 full albums since 2012. 5 of which were released in 2017 only.
They were a 7 piece band but their second drummer left the band in 2020 to focus more on flightless records. A record label started by the band where they release music from themselves and friends. 3 of the members do vocals over various songs and like these songs some of the songs dabble into microtonality.
The band is mainly focused on psychedelic rock but they have ventured into garage, acid rock, prog rock and even thrash metal.
And this might even be the craziest part: many of their releases are part of one story (or gizzverse as the fans have called it) The band has claimed they know where the story starts and where it will end but this is not really confirmed.

Man, PLEASE do one on Crumbling Castle, also by King Gizz. It's such a wonderful masterpiece.

I love that, at least I like to think I have a fairly broad range of music that I listen to. And you keep covering so many bands I love. You're channel is incredible and I love how you go deeper without going over my head with theory, but throw little bits of that in from time to time. It's truly a breath of fresh air for me as someone who is a passionate listener but lacks the knowledge of even attempting to identify what key or time signature a song is in.
And I know it's probably been mentioned, but it's not actually slightly de-tuned instruments in this song, it's one of the many microtonal songs they have done with re-fretted instrument.

And also to expand on their production style. Unlike a band like Tool (whom I love!) King Gizz is totally self produced, more of the "garage" style. "Warts and all."
The benefit of that is that they are constantly releasing material. I mean, 5 full length albums in 1 year??? (2017)
And you'd think it would be a lot of filler, maybe it's not all masterpiece work but it's not junk either. Love this band.

I work a manual labor job with a horn player who is married to a violin player. Constantly listening to them talk about theory and such. I think she has been involved with the Cleveland orchestra (my neck of the woods).
I recently suggested this band to him after he mentioned microtonal music.
Earlier today he sent me a text... "Good call on King Gizzard..."
Which is why I got on TH-cam to give them yet another listen.
And sure enough, here was your video with your first listen of the band. Synchronicity.

Actually, on this particular song it might be detuned because I'm not even sure how much actual guitar and bass are used. Either way.

Their 2 (so far) experiments with microtonality. But don't stop there.
As a (de)composer, I think you might have some interest in Buckethead. He's an incredible guitarist. Acoustic, electric, bass, banjo, you name it. If the instrument has strings, he has *mastered* it.
If that doesn't intrigue you, here's some little background: Buckethead stared his professional career in 1987, he plays a wide range of genres. He performs mainly as a solo artist releasing over 300 albums to date, and has collaborated with production of over 50 albums by other artists. Most of his albums are called "Pikes", they generally ~30 minutes long each pike with songs being 1-2 minutes each, but intended to be listened as a whole pike as they seamless transition each other.
One of my favourite pikes is Pike #52 (Factory), but you can choose pretty much any pike and be amazed. Some of his popular works are:
- Soothsayer
- Jordan (featured on one of the Guitar Hero games)
- Welcome to Bucketheadland
- Coma
Buckethead truly knows how to invoke emotion using nothing but his guitar.
Also worth noting that he was voted number 8 on GuitarOne magazine for the Top 10 Fastest Guitar Shreadders of All Time in 2008. In 2003, he was in the Guitar World's list of "25 all-time weirdest guitarists" and in 2011, Guitar World's list of "50 fastest guiarists of all time.

I, like most of the cultists and fanboys commenting in your videos (yeah, I'm talking about Tool fans, but also others) search out reaction videos of music I (we) know and like.... and to those with insight into these kinds of things it's obvious, or transparent, if you will, the reason why we do it. Insecurity.
What we're all trying to do is reaffirm our own thoughts and opinions. It's pathetic for sure, but not an uncommon behavior by any means. I'm not above admitting it, but I also don't like that about myself.
What I am getting at it this: No one is coming here to learn anything or expand their musical horizons. The comments in the tool videos alone will clue you into that, as they embrace you into their fold as if you, a lifelong veteran of music creation, learning, and understanding, have ended your musical journey, and now you are home, at the doorstep of Tool (or whatever band it is)
These reaction videos (regardless of creator) are sort of an echo chamber of their own kind. The song choices themselves are almost entirely recommended by the audience, for one thing. I'm guilty of it too, maybe not with specific bands, but certain types of music.
I've been on a long and winding musical journey in my 40 years. Starting with bands like The Doors, Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, ect... because thats what my mom listened to, and ironically almost ending back up in the same spot, albeit the stuff that never made the radio from bands like Yes, Camel, King Crimson, Genesis, Rush, David Bowie, ect... somewhere in the middle was heavy metal, death metal, grunge, alternative, blues, jazz...a lot of stuff, at least, seemingly.
After really digging into bands like Yes and King Crimson, and all the heavy hitters of prog rock, over the last 10 years or so, I became complacent (ignorant, more like). My journey was over. I actually told myself that I had found the best kind of music and that there were no new horizons to discover. ...until I found your channel.
Your objective knowledge and insight into the composition of music is truly profound and even though I came here for the affirmation I talked about earlier (Tool song, not this video), you've made me realize just how little I know about music, and that my opinion of music is low in it's value, and diminutive in size, without that objective knowledge you posses. I don't want to just watch reaction videos of songs I've been listening to for 20 years anymore. I don't want to just reaffirm my opinions and coddle my insecurities. I want to better understand and appreciate an even broader range of music. I want to understand music more objectively.
Watching you react to these videos, and your enthusiasm for music you've never even heard, has really inspired me to continue my musical journey. To challenge my sensibilities, and my ear. To realize that art appreciation will always be a work in progress, not some destination that I have arbitrarily decided, based on my limited knowledge. To put it bluntly, to cut through my own narcissism
so, thanks. ..and this may sound corny or whatever, but after finding your videos a couple of months ago, I am a different person, and dare I say, a better person, even if by just a little bit. Humbled if you will, and I''ll gladly take it. and I hope you keep making these videos, and we can, at least in part, continue this journey together.

Oh boy - get ready to swim in the ocean of the gizzverse. Hands down, my favorite active band. As many on here have already said, they cover a lot of ground stylistically. Jazzy, chill, psyche-rock, prog, thrash... and whatever-the-hell Murder of the Universe is with all it's glorious spoken word over dubs... These guys are great - can't wait to hear your take.
Crumbling Castle is required listening. As is Nonagon Infinity, Murder of the Universe, Infest the Rats Nest, etc, etc, etc...

I have been watching your videos almost from the get-go. I find myself addicted in a way to the way in which you put a spin on breaking down these songs. I have a few strong suggestions that I would absolute be thrilled to see your reaction, as well as your take on the intricacies within the songs. My hope is that with you breaking them down in laymen’s terms so I (and others like myself) can have a better understanding of these songs.

HELL YEAH!!!! I've been hoping you'd cover king gizz!!!! You need to check out the whole album polygondwanaland, but you can break it down into 4 sections (crumbling castle, the polygondwanaland trilogy, the horology trilogy, and the tetrachromacy trilogy). They released the album into the public domain and IMO it's one of their best. Definitely classic psychedelic mixed with some prog that you'd totally dig.
A lot of the albums have tie-ins to different albums, and they genre hop a lot! If you want to go on a real trip, listen to murder of the universe. Another album that can be broken up into three parts, it really delves into story telling and gets hella nerdy in a way I think you'd love.
Watching your face move with the tune was exactly the same way I felt listening to it the first time. It's out there, in a good way.
Nice to see some Gizz! Reminds me that I haven't listened to them for a year, I should probably catch up on the 60 new albums they've probably put on since.
There is so much material and such a wide variety when it comes to King Gizz. Such a fun band. I'd love to see more. Something to check out in this vein would be "Rubber Bullies" by Tropical Fuck Storm. Or anything by All Them Witches.
