    I'm so glad Neil refused to acknowledge the 'Collecting Cars Gilet' memo, and opt for such a rascal suit. Sensational.

    Love this live format. Nothing is lost when put in front of a crowd which is a testament to how organic and authentic the normal podcast is. Just need Manish there!

    Gents, I would just like to thank you for all the effort that goes in to making these podcasts (nevermind a live show). The 5 of you bring solid gold content each week and in a world where petrol has become a bad word, I really just want to thank you for keeping my passion alive. ❤

    Neil Clifford clearly a man of taste. I had the e39 M5 & Clio Trophy two car garage for a 2 year spell together (2014-2016) and they were an impeccable pairing.
    M5 sold and sorely missed, Clio still going strong!

    I tune in for Manish's passionate outbursts, and soaring music recommendations (that violin concerto makes my whole flipping body hum) ...am gutted this week. Can we get a double dose of Manish next week please? Or at least two songs. Edit: Just finished listening, now my concerns seem selfish. I hope it's nothing too serious with him, much love and all the best

    Amongst weather from a British summer, flashing set lights, Neil's del-monsheikh suit and the side profile of a man swilling beer as you talk amongst yourselves, it felt like a level up of the same excellent weekly car-fuffle cast. Can't wait for Manish to join on the next one

    Mr Lovett! Point of order sir. It's a ToRaNa (Australian Indegenous peoples word for 'to fly') I understand you may have had a few sherries on board when you read it so all is forgiven😁 Yesterday we had a premium example of said vehicle at our Classic Car Owner's of Victoria, Cars and Coffee. It opened at 8.30 am with 250 spots available inside and by 9.00 all bays were filled. I love car people. They're happy to go a little 'off piste' much like meself. Keep up the amazing work team and all our best to Manish.
    If I wasn't such an IT numpty, I would have added a photo of the SLR.

    This podcast is just so beautiful even a man down. I'm distraught to hear that Neil has bailed on the B5 GT Tourer, it's a proper hero car despite being ridiculous money and about to be upended by the new M5 Touring and that Chris is considering chopping the M5 CS. Great work again, chaps. P.S. loving the music choices so sod the haters.

    I was at the live podcast recording and throughly enjoyed it.
    I hope everyone got out the field ok. I felt like a dick in my Nissan patrol being the first to leave but my whinging mate needed to go for some reason.
    It was funny Neil mentioned he liked The 1975 for his music choice as I’m one of their truck drivers. In fact I was driving back from a festival they’d played in Finland listening to the podcast when the live recording tickets were mentioned.
    I can be away months at a time and the podcast is my piece of home that keeps me company on the road.
    Keep up the great work. Many thanks.

    I had a 2020 Alfa Giulia Quad, midnight blue, for 2 years, Chris. No electric or mechanical problems whatsoever. With an Akrapovic on, it sounds sublime and yet has a comfy ride. Had to let it go for a roomier family car 😢. All the best!

      @@v8jlz A Cayenne. Ignore my follies. An Alfa GQF is a super family car, easily seats 4 adults, takes on 2 bags. If you are looking at a 2020 model, I recommend adding the Akrapovic exhaust (the A/N modes are quiet, the D mode is not loud either), and also consider suspension/coil overs, because I felt it sat too high out of the factory. I think later models have a better ride height.

    Convertibles with the top down, like motorcycles, have a narrow weather window where they are enjoyable instead of a chore. Primarily for me it's at night, a cool, but not cold evening, driving around the city, the open air ambiance is like magic. I have been chasing that feeling for years, and cannot be replicated without a convertible.

    • @markmawer
      @markmawer ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Totally agree. My favourite trip of the whole of last year was driving my Atom from Edinburgh to Dumfries through the dark feeling the temperature changes on my face as I drove under trees. It was a fantastic experience.

    • @secretsquirrel3793
      @secretsquirrel3793 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed. Drop tops are best in temperate climes, as stated in the film. Even rain in a Seven isn't much of an issue as long as the car is moving above 30mph or so. Even stuck in traffic a tonneau keeps most of the cockpit dry and if you're wearing a waterproof there's really not that much exposure in a shower. It amuses other road users too, in a light-hearted way!

  • @sholehan
    @sholehan ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Nailed it in the first minute or so. I'm a mechnical engineer. I know exactly how chassis torsional rigidity works, and the terrible aero of an open roof.
    I will always choose an convertible over a coupe. They simply feel more speical.

    My two convertibles were a '64 AH Sprite and a Mk2.5 (MB) MX5.
    Loved em both due to;
    50mph seemed like 100mph
    The smells of country drives
    Come to a stop and people actually spoke to you.
    The ease of jumping in/out sans roof.

      Mk2 NB MX5 represent, 1.8L in British Racing Green was my best ever car easily, hope to own another someday, even though Harris would chastise me for not getting an MR2 instead. I drove it with the top down even in rain (above 50mph you stay dry) and snow, sliding all over the place on the way up mountains to ski with the top down, yeah it's cold, and you might end up in a snow bank every once in a while, but what a feeling! Harris: "The E32 7 series had a 100 litre tank, fill that up and don't need to fill up again for a month"
    Yeah right. I had one, a 735i, and I filled it to the brim and exactly 3 hours later I'd used it all up. Admittedly that was covering a distance of 400 miles on a near empty A8 Autobahn at Vmax the whole time at an average of 133.3mph. Considering those numbers, I'd say I did well. In a turbo car doing those speeds I'd have been lucky to achieve 150 miles before needing to fill up again. I did try it in a turbo car once, I averaged 4mpg, but that was (almost) keeping up with a Diablo at 186mph. Remind me why I made my id veemacks again.

    Given the caveat that no-one cares what I think, I really wasn't all that about this gig - too much waffle, too little substance. I was 3/4 the way through and about to leave and then CH rescued it by talking about (possibly) one of the best car journalists, Russell Bulgin. Once upon a time, he spent an entire column's worth of print (in Car magazine) celebrating the work of unknown people who finessed the action of wind-up windows and door-shut lines in a humdrum Japanese car. Bulgin was a genuine talent and I still miss his columns.

    Not fond of convertibles....if its something flash, you are asking for some prick to Gob on you when driving in town, and in the case of old cars (e.g. my old 64 AC) water dripping onto my leg from the ill fitting, flapping hood. Or being cooked from the sun above and the heat from the headers soaking through the floor on the rare hot day. Misery!
    Rather have a sunroof on a tintop.

    As I have accidentally parked on my roof on two occasions now a convertible is not an option.

    what interesting that car reviewer dont point out how terrible or crap that the manufacture use on there cars. i think we need a mechanic review on what car was built the best for service or overhauling. as i came across so many car with rubbish hardware or shit engine bay design. we dont talk about why the manufacture uses torq head bolts or hex head bolts or evens why different thread or hardware that either imperial or metric. no matter how amazing the car is if the mechanic has a tough time servicing your car how is that the best on the market. if its practical to drive but a nightmare to maintain

    I was oblivious to, or at least not around for, the pedigree that made BMW fanboys love them so much but I have to admit in the current market I can't think of a better brand of car, in the mass market anyway.

    “BMW still makes the best cars”?!?! Oh C’mon!! You’re on the pay Chris surely?!? XM, i7, M2, M3, M3 CSL, M4 and iX are just absolute rubbish. The looks will grow on you. No they won’t, because fortunately there are people looking after those BMWs that are worth keeping.

    Is Neil delusional? LA is not meant for convertibles? California and LA specifically arguably has the most prefect weather (year round) for convertibles.
