Pity the moose doesn't actually interfere with cars. Imagine trying to figure out your traffic problem and zooming in on a problem intersection just to find a moose hanging out blocking the road.
It is worth mentioning that you misread/misspoke about leveling up residential buildings. Their upkeep increases. The truck carrying rock at 1:09:10 cane from the smaller highway off map and went to the major highway. Building your city here just connected the two highways, so you may see a lot of that. (to quote a popular GPS App "We found a faster route")
So happy to see UK-inspired build! Will be watching the whole series closely! Great start and so nice to know there are already 2 more videos for me to watch! :)
Yeyyy, a new series. I've watched some videos of other content creators and even though they know a game better they always rush it. I like how you take it slow, think it through and make it realistic. It's been fun to watch. Like the idea of renaming people and following their lives. Also, you beed to find a house for you and Rosie 😂
Hey, i just want to say thank you for all the tips. I've played this game for 4-5 hours and i already got some answears to my problems with just this video. So thank you!
Hey Darren, been a long time channel view of your satisfactory content. Some past life situations have spoiled a few of my favorite hobbies one of them being Cities Skylines. You got me back into it man, so thank you. Keep it up!
I see you using developer mode, why not go all in and get some quality of life mods? Road tool extender, line tool and landscaping tool extender are great and stable.
I like the subtle nod to CityPlannerPlays (Edit: about respecting the topography) :D I've been watching a lot of his series and think I may start checking out your videos as well as I expand to get some ideas for my own gameplay. This is the first video of yours that youtube recommended to me.
Binged this whole series, now re-watching while I build as I've run out of episodes! Great tips, especially the one about pathways to fix zoning!! also HIIIIII + Thanks (because you said you see new comments!) : )
Really enjoyed this, for more realism, pipes and cables should likely always follow roads! wherever possible, and if you think about it, youll need road access to sewage outlets so on and so forth. Good first ep, nice work!
Hi Darren, great to see you are making a proper series for this game. I tried to watch as much of the live streams as I could, but those are just too long for me to keep up. So really with the 1 hour series format 👌 Great start!
This is my favorite CS2 series by fr, you're just so chill. Hope this series is gonna last several months at least. When Paradox mods open so much exciting things can be done, and on release date there will be 8 theme pacs for free to download there.
I heard in CS2 you can give you buildings alley access. I think a few alleys among the row houses and businesses would look great when you set North American themed.
I’d love to see the city be built to be less car-dependent. I feel like many people (including me) allow their cities to be more car-centric, I think it would be cool to see a well run city that utilizes more public transportation and actually prioritizes public transport over cars. Great video!!
Nice start to a brand new series. I would love to see some land allowance for service building expansion. Perhaps reemergence of the electricity pole in the future for realism's sake.
Howdie Darren, my name is Steven Whitehouse. And I'm new to the channel. Looking forward to watching you build your city. But I will watch this first then watch episode 2 to catch up.
This would be the most enternaining series I've seen so far, if it weren't for you brits being so weird by driving on the wrong side of the road all the time xD
Row housing, the bane of existence. I prefer custom homes and large plot of land. Something so nice and relaxing having an actual yard to run around in on my bicycle, quad and still have my garden, chicken coup, pig pen and beef cow field.
I bought the first CS a couple weeks ago, a lot to learn but the main thing I struggled with was roads, they made 0 sense to me. Today I learned that you can make them drive on the sensible side of the road, this will make it much easier to design my A roads and hopefully less congestion with outgoing lorries :D
36:30 a median on the 4 lane road should properly align the lanes so that there is no small awkward turn. also please turn of the in game radio. its a bit distracting to have you and the radio guy talk over each other. Edit: adding a median is also an alternative way to get rid of parking :)
I think it would be interesting if you used your expansion points to already make a 2nd city. It would be cool to see how you managed 2 cities growing at the same time and how they could interact with each other. Loved your City Skylines Play through. Will watch this one to end as well.
I didn't know there were pathways there. I only used pedestrian roads. This is a great series. Also never considered building along lines of elevation. Super smart. Was there any reason you went with 4x4 houses? I've always tried to use max size. I didn't know why I would do otherwise.
Smaller houses have lower rent than bigger houses and you can fit more of them in the same space than you could with larger houses, also for building variety
Complaints from the less highly educated people that rents are too high are directly related to the size of their residential plot, as well as the land value.
I watch all these lets plays to learn new strategies for my own playthrough and how to make interesting layouts. And then I end up making grid city v654
When starting a city for power I go for a wind turbine to start, but do not connect it to the outside so I still get the subsidy. I only build services, schools etc when I have too as I am aiming to get the geo-thermal power plant. You might think this is expensive, especially at the start, yes it is expensive but once up and running you will be exporting a load of power, my money tab was in the red and showing that I was losing 7,000/9,000, but, I was still making money at the end of the day. Don't ask me how as I have no idea. That one power plant will produce enough electricity to power your city for ages, plus it does not give off air pollution so residents down wind will not complain. After a week playing this way I I had to get another power plant when I had 50,000 pop, no problem with 102 million in the bank, my highest income per game hour was 56,000 which means I was earning over 10 million per day while playing, in fact it is more than that as I have paid out millions to get rail yards, subway yards, hospitals etc. With the two power plants I have now I am exporting 400 KW and the money just keeps rolling in.
Hi Darwin player I was expecting the first video 120 minutes the next video I expect to be in nowhere then like 40 to 35 minutes just carrying on keep up with the good content hope my spellings alright😊😊
The patch that is supposed to fix Garbage (generation and distribution) should be live now, so with any luck you should have a much better experience with it now than you may have had with any previous saves (or this save so far).
All the finagling with paths to adjust the zoning to get some of the zoning off of certain roads... My guy, there is a zoning tool that lets to remove zoning from one or both sides of a road.
You can get rich of the roadside parking. At some point you unlock the ability to ask roadside parking fees which gives you even with a small town an easy +50000 a month.
Once you get to 40k population the garbage will start to become an issue. i put in an incinerator and recycling center which solved it and gives a boost of power production. Also one way you can discourage street parking is jack up the roadside parking fee, in the policies tab, and then make the lot parking fee much lower.
Nice use of the word obfuscate. You are the 4th person I’ve ever heard use that word correctly in a sentence. Great content. You’ve earned a subscriber.
Aren't Crematoriums more on the outskirts due to what they do and health issues, smell, and such? I may be wrong but I know the one I know of in my city is in the middle of nowhere essentially.
Really was hoping for your Play through in CS2 I was following your live sessions and was manifesting the series on CS2 ..... Really love Your Content and Game Style .... Keep Up the Good Work
It’s kind of sad that in some circumstance’s this feels like it was the first city’s skylines and the first actual game seems like the sequel at times especially with the mods but I have hope that this game will become way more advanced and better as time passes just how city’s 1 was because I remember that game being pretty rough at launch too with all the glitches and exploits Definitely some potential
Pity the moose doesn't actually interfere with cars. Imagine trying to figure out your traffic problem and zooming in on a problem intersection just to find a moose hanging out blocking the road.
Moving back to Alaska in less than a month, I miss the big bastards
Did you make it? @@GoGsApostle
I believe you can double click on a road to create a node when doing instead of having to delete the road and put it back in.
Also, when you disbale snap to geometry, guidelines and building sides you can get better grids.
@@monkey1371 I wish they gave us presets for the building tools
It is worth mentioning that you misread/misspoke about leveling up residential buildings. Their upkeep increases.

Enjoyed the start of your new city. You can get rid of street parking by adding trees or grass also, not just wider sidewalks.
So happy to see UK-inspired build! Will be watching the whole series closely! Great start and so nice to know there are already 2 more videos for me to watch! :)
absolutely love how meticulous and detail oriented u are. so satisfying to watch!! keep it up!!
love that you used left hand drive, not many do and as i live in the uk it’s a breath of fresh familiar air 😭💙
I just want to say that the editing around the sped up parts/time lapses with your voice over are done really well and I really like them. Keep it up

Great start to the series 🎉 pacing of the video is great for newbies and seasoned Darren veterans! I look forward to watching Blackwaters development!
Thanks for the kind words!
Congratulations on passing your driving test! My dad didn’t get his license until he was in his 30s too, that shit doesn’t matter. Congratulations! ❤
You can really see your organisation and OCD 😂😂 I’m the same LOVE IT!
You really can
Finally a left hand drive city. And you are not constantly talking to chat.....this is the channel I'm going to follow
PLEASE MAKE A COLLAB CITY WITH REAL CIVIL ENGINEER
Yea fr
This should blow up
Let's go! Couldn't watch the streams live much but have been catching up on the vods. Can't wait to see how you plan this new city.
Hey, i just want to say thank you for all the tips. I've played this game for 4-5 hours and i already got some answears to my problems with just this video. So thank you!
I love how neat you are with everything and it's very easy to follow along relative to other cs2 youtubers.
Hey Darren, been a long time channel view of your satisfactory content. Some past life situations have spoiled a few of my favorite hobbies one of them being Cities Skylines. You got me back into it man, so thank you. Keep it up!
Fantastic Stuff Darren. Watching your videos are so helpful and enjoyable. Keep up the great content.
Thank you!
I really like the detailed work and would actually like you to keep this style. Thank you for the beautiful video!
I see you using developer mode, why not go all in and get some quality of life mods? Road tool extender, line tool and landscaping tool extender are great and stable.

Hiiiiiii back! And thanks for the kind words!
That’s a really nice crematorium building….I hear people are “dying” to get in there!
I will see myself out.
ive never been this stoked to see a series start
at 19:05 minutes, when you put the energy cables underground you won my sub, I HATE THE CABLES and i didn't know that that was possible.
Really enjoyed this, for more realism, pipes and cables should likely always follow roads! wherever possible, and if you think about it, youll need road access to sewage outlets so on and so forth.
Good first ep, nice work!
Look forward to the series. I've been a fan of yours for a while, man. Hope you hit a 100k soon
I appreciate that!
I subbed within 5 minutes just because of the way you talk and your approach to the game. I will binge your content while I work this week :D
Great City Build. 👍 to stop cars parking use the No Parking Signs, instead of bigger sidewalks 😊
Great start and layout for a new city. Looks good 👍
That validation feels good hey 😂 laughed and subbed as soon as you said that
Great start of a new series. Let it be as long as your Anno one :)
Blackwater?!? Where’s the money??
I’ve come here from Real Civil Engineer and when you make a 4-lane crossroads or grids for residential, all I can hear is RCE going “no!” 😂
Keralis, another youtuber noticed that most upgrades to service buildings are 6 tiles, keep that in mind when your placing them! :)
Thanks for the tips!
@@WhatDarrenPlays Ofcourse!
Nice work putting temporary pathways in. I never knew that would smooth out the buildable squares like that
red dead redemption refrence

You asked, I subscribed.
Frostpunk was my first series I watched of yours.
If you'd like to be able to add just a section of a road to make it symmetrical, simply add a path at the point you'd like to install a node.
Nice start to a brand new series. I would love to see some land allowance for service building expansion. Perhaps reemergence of the electricity pole in the future for realism's sake.
Blackwater you say?
*Dutch breathing in planning mode*
Congrats on passing your test 🎉
GET DARREN TO 100K BOYSSSSSSS
Howdie Darren, my name is Steven Whitehouse. And I'm new to the channel. Looking forward to watching you build your city. But I will watch this first then watch episode 2 to catch up.
i really loved these long videos, keep doing them and also a new breath of fresh air from satisfactory this series gonna be good
So satisfying watching you make a very neat city I'm struggling to add water 😂 I'm a newbie and this game is hard 😂
I love that you build back lanes or alleys witch here where I am Vancouver Canada is what we do here huge fan you have a follower for life now
the parking on the road is because mid level housing does not have car ports, but they will move to a nearby parking lot.
This would be the most enternaining series I've seen so far, if it weren't for you brits being so weird by driving on the wrong side of the road all the time xD
Love watching all the planning, looks great and learning alot ❤

Congrats on passing your driving exam !!
51:00 if you build low offices, you do indeed get software dev studios :) games included
Just found you, enjoying the content and you're entertaining. Dropped a sub as a sacrifice to the algoritm. Keep up the good work!
Hopefully this sacrifice will appease the Algo-Gods!
that's interesting: the traffic logic in the car parks changes for left hand drive, but none of the markings change to match

Great video as always Darren, excited to see more of Blackwater!
I just bought the first Cities Skylines on sale, I hope to get good enough at it to do this sort of thing in the sequel someday.
Your my favorite city skylines youtuber! Got me back into city skylines and I love your gameplay ☺️
Looking at you plan so much is soo satisfying,....especially after the stream😅
36:30 a median on the 4 lane road should properly align the lanes so that there is no small awkward turn.
also please turn of the in game radio. its a bit distracting to have you and the radio guy talk over each other.
Edit: adding a median is also an alternative way to get rid of parking :)
If there’s no radio there’s no music. Ads are unchecked but news bulletins still happen. Will try avoid though
love your gameplay! such a cool and calm game play. thanks alot.
I think it would be interesting if you used your expansion points to already make a 2nd city. It would be cool to see how you managed 2 cities growing at the same time and how they could interact with each other. Loved your City Skylines Play through. Will watch this one to end as well.

Love it, honestly have you on a pop up window while I'm working. Relaxing city build.
when you put down the pathways, you blew my mind
I’ve never learned so much in such a short period of time
When starting a city for power I go for a wind turbine to start, but do not connect it to the outside so I still get the subsidy. I LOVE this stuff man.... I know what imma be doing for like 10 hours lol keep posting thanks bro
Just could not get into the streams. Glad to see a proper series has been started.
Yeah its much slower, and a lot of guesswork. Thats why these videos take longer, I actually put effort / planning into them!
I would love to see the Chicago Map, I don't think too much people have that map, so a future series on that map would be cool.

I enjoyed this build. I like your authentic row house neighborhoods
Green spaces for the little irregular shaped spots. Paths and trees.
That was a cool suprise, Town I use to live in is Blackwater.
All the finagling with paths to adjust the zoning to get some of the zoning off of certain roads... My guy, there is a zoning tool that lets to remove zoning from one or both sides of a road.
Beautiful build, I'm learning much from you. Also: Nice moose 😂
Glad you enjoy it!
Blackwater eh? Are you going to build a Valentine, Saint Denis, Emerald Ranch, Strawberry, etc etc too? 😉
You can get rich of the roadside parking. At some point you unlock the ability to ask roadside parking fees which gives you even with a small town an easy +50000 a month.
What I really like is the possibility to upgrade buildings like fire stations medical centre schools etc

The cemetery is one of the most beautiful asset looks a bit like a huge park use it more like a centre place
