Just a heads up, in this video when you re-install the silver home bracket, it's installed the opposite way as the original placement (compare 2:36 to 7:45). I found that if it's installed the same way as the video, it makes the home button feel "loose" or like it was installed incorrectly. May want to add a note to the video for your viewers. Cheers, - kdugas06
MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE HOME BUTTON ON CORRECTLY LIKE HE MENTIONS.

Protip if your screen is so cracked that the suction cup doesn't work, use scotch tape to make a handle width wise, then reinforce it with tape running the length of the screen. Works quite well

Just want to give a huge shout out to Jerry for wonderful in-depth yet quick guides on iPhone Repairs.
I was able to replace both my iPhone 5s battery and screen with the help of this video.
However, I too installed the metal plate of the touch button the other way round which made me re-open the phone to fix the home button issue.
Also, since mine was a refurbished one, it didn't have the tiny metal piece in the touch ID kit but I guess it's not a big deal since so far all functions work perfectly!
Thanks again Jerry and keep up the good work. looking forward to more videos from you (especially iPhone 7 is around the corner)

Thank you for such a great and easy-to-follow video! My niece broke her screen, I found a replacement online for ~$30 and by following your video, I was able to swap it out successfully in about 45 minutes. Easy to follow video, saved a lot of money doing it myself, I appreciate it!

Thank you so much! I am not a techy person at all but I fixed my phone screen with no help and saved $200! You are literally a lifesaver- I didn't have many issues but did strip a screw on the home button bracket, so some info on how to help that problem would be great, that problem added some stress and an extra 45 min to the fix. I ended up breaking the old screen plastic backing around the screw and undoing it from the backside because nothing was loosening up the screw! Keep it up!

Followed this video, actually replaced my battery and home button while at it, too. This was a great guide. It took me a loong time though! Common mistakes some people might make... not transferring the metal plate, not taking the thin protective film off of the back of the new screen unit, losing screws, pushing too hard to try to get something to re-snap... not quite re-snapping something correctly...if you are just careful and thoughtful about where you are keeping the screws, you should be fine. Worked for me! Great video, but this dude makes it look easier than it is. Each step is a series of very tiny coordinated movements.

  • @jazznomad

Oh, three things for the next user of the video. 1) very useful to get a pair of tweezers and slap a small magnet on the shaft of the screw drivers!
    2) small error in video
The bracket on the home button was reversed during reassembly at the end. I discovered that I wasn’t getting a nice click on the home button.. that was the reason why 3) that tiny metal thing on the home button cable with the screw is important to put back in the right direction(mentions in passing in video!!). If it’s not correct, there appears to be a grounding problem that prevents bootup/battery charging. I couldn’t get device to power on, that and the bracket were the only things I needed to redo to get things working!!!

Thank you for the video. I was able to get the screen replaced on my son's 5s. Took me about two hours. I can see why they sell screens with parts attached. It was a bear and those screws were so small. The "lego' connectors were a pain to get aligned. I was afraid I would mis-align and smash them. When my 15 year old saw what I had to go through he said "sorry dad, I'll try to be more careful". He busted his GBA... but that screen was a whole lot easier to fix, once I got the correct screen. Blessings John 20:29

Hey, thanks so much, this was a great video and helped a lot. Also, for anyone out there, if you put everything back together and the finger scanner works but the home button itself does not, check to make sure you didn't put the plate that cover the home button on backwards. I did and the home button didn't work and I couldn't figure out, but then I found out it was on backwards, so there you go, helpful tip.

25-30 mins and the screen has been installed, camera fine, finger print scanner fine, and ear piece fine! Great instructions! Very Clear! Tip - keep your screws organised, long nose tweezers are great for picking up screws that fall into the body of the phone and if you have access to another phone/tablet, use it to take pics of where brackets/plates screws go.
    Thanks JRG!

WARNING: I advise you to not use this video to repair your iphone, it has at least three mistakes/missing steps which I have noticed (and could have even more I didn't, I'm no expert). 1. he does not tell you to take ambient light filter/front camera place holder from the old screen and place it on the new one. 2. he also doesn't mention to peel off the anti static film (usually a reddish colour) from the new screen before fixing the plate on. 3. he even puts the home buttons' bracket back on, but the wrong way round! I'm not hating just advising as luckily I watched this but then decided to watch the 45min vid on youtube instead. I'm actually quite sure there was a few other things but I'm not bothered to rewatch it just to point them out, it's your choice now.

    • @JerryRigEverything
      @JerryRigEverything  9 ปีที่แล้ว +15

R0DSTER Fair enough. 1) Doesnt need to happen. 2) Common sense to remove any packing materials that come attached to the screen (There is also a clear protector on the front that needs to be removed usually.) 3) You are correct about the home button bracket. I have corrected that in the video description, as well as video annotations, AND about 100 times in the comments. I do appreciate your comment though. It'll help others see my mistake, hopefully.

Luke Armitage Yeah those washers are a piss take to get in well. Best to use a magnetic screw driver. Doing the screens on a 5 or above s much easier as the screen is the first thing to remove to disassemble the phone

Just finished screen and home button replacement - 20 mins. The kit without the camera, speaker etc was only marginally cheaper than with it all included, so paying the extra and saving the work makes sense.
The worst bit by far was that tiny metal bracket that comes off with the screw on the home button - it acts as a spacer between 2 parts of the ribbon cable and did not want to go back into its position between the 2 without nearly trashing the cable.
Thanks for the vid and greetings from 2021.

We even got the Touch ID part transferred over from the broken screen to the new one and it works fine! Hugely valuable vid.

I love this video. At first I was like, " I'll never be able to pull this off. Had a few issues, need to buy a new bracket for my home button because the screws just kept sinning and wouldn't unscrew. Something must have stripped. Was still able to get it off. The glass was already broken so I cracked out the whole piece and ended up screwing up the bracket. Still used it for now but my home button isn't right, but still works. Once the new bracket arrives I know it will be an easy fix. Thank you so much for this video. I saved over $100 fixing it myself. You are my iPhone hero. Although if I ever need to replace again I will spend the few extra dollars to have the camera, speakers and home button included. Just to save time, time is money lol

Thank you. In order to simply salvage my data, I was able to use use another old phone with an ok screen to swap out without removing all the separate screen components. Plugged in the 4 connectors (top 3 and home button) was able to enter my passcode and then transferred my data to my computer. 2 junky phones now useless, but my data is saved. But your directions were key! Thanks again!

I want to thank you for uploading this video. The narration and video are excellent, and helped me to fix my girlfriend's iPhone 5S for less than $50. I probably would have been done in forty-five minutes, but I got done and couldn't use the touch screen. It turns out that there is a plastic red cover on the new screen that must be removed before installation. I didn't remove it the first time around.

Although the home button plate was on the incorrect side, that i found out when reading the comments, it really made me calm and able to change it withtout big problems. I had to reopen it in part, because one of the cables was not correctly connected, but then it worked smoothly. Thank you! I bought the screen from Ansanor, through Amazon Germany. The touch is slower, but it works.

Awesome video... it helped so much. A couple of things... when you first take it apart... you can bypass the finger print ribbon cable if you disconnect the home button first. You can do that by gently leaning the bottom to the left and right to be able to access the screws that are holding the home button in place. Also... to remove the home button I simply pushed gently on the side you would normally press it after removing the cover that holds it in place and it will fall out easily. Finally you can simply remove the four screws holding the metal shielding back so you don't have to peel off the sticker with the ribbon cables. Using these methods along with this video it makes this so easy to do.
